CHAPTER-5 part-1
DEV's POV
The gun shot that followed shook me to the core... sonakshi slipped to the floor and I ran towards her, and gripped her, to check if she was hurt anywhere.. painful relief spread through me when I realized she was out of the situation unhurt... I grabbed karan and slapped him hard so that his already mangled form fell into the floor!! I wanted to torture him for touching sonakshi, make him pay for his horrible mistake, make him cringe... by the time these thoughts were flooding into my mind my team had already cleared most of the situation and even sonakshi had been pulled up into a standing position, I turned towards her and she saw me, and I saw a flicker of relief in her eyes..
how could I ever tell her, what I had felt in those moments before and after the ordeal!! "theek ho?" I asked her as soon as we were safely escorted to my car, and she was completely under my care.. I pulled her close to me and I was completely surprised by how perfectly her tiny body fit into mine...
her voice broke my trance "mai theek hoon SP sir" she replied in a tiny voice, I helped her get into the car and took the driver's seat, we drove in silence partly, because I was scared I would say something that would scare her off and partly, because I wanted her to feel comfortable with me.. Strange for a guy who was holding a gun in front of her, wanting her to feel safe in his company.. I smiled a rueful smile at the strange impulse!! We reached home and I guided her to the gate where she waved me off!! I drove back home, my thoughts completely absorbed by the brown eyed angel!!
I reached my main door, when I saw eli and vik both leaning on the door frame, acting as if absorbed in a deep conversation!! I knew them really well to know they were acting!! "kya hua aaj vik" eli asked her voice oddly loud for a personal conversation...
"kya eli, aacha woh" vik said eyebrows raising at the word woh!!
"haan woh " eli replied, I turned around and they both went still, facing each other
"kya woh??" I asked, approaching them
"yahi, ki ek ladki ko dekh kar mr devrath dixit ke hath se gun gir gayi!!" eli completed the sentence putting an extra emphasis on the words ladki and gun!! I pursed my lips and folded my hands...
"kya eli aisa kuch nahi hua tha, woh toh, dev ka balance bigad gaya, and gun gir gayi... galti thi yaar.." now it was vik's turn to emphasis on words like balance, galti and gun!!
I just rolled my eyes, and said "han, jo vik keh raha hai wahi sahi hai!!" trying hard to stay calm and composed, keeping my voice leveled. They were silent for 30 seconds and after that they both broke into fits of laughter, sometimes I wished I could ship this couple away to some home for retards!!
I looked at them, and they just kept laughing, as I turned to move into the house they calmed and stopped laughing at least vik did, eli was again having a hard time stomaching her giggles.. "humein pata tha ki tu kabhi nahi manega, ki uss ladki ki wajah se tu darr gya tha, pehli baar, maine the dev dixit ki aakhon mein panic dekha!!! Tu nahi manega, or man bhi mat!! Humara kya hai!!"
eli just inhaled and said "maine halwa banaya hai, iss pathar ki moorat mein jissne jaan dali hai uske naam" saying this she left, and I pushed open my door and moved in..
vik followed me in and propped himself on my couch "dekh mujhe nahi pata kya hua.. or yeh bhi nahi pata ki woh kon hai, but woh jo koi bhi hai, usse tujhe farak padta hai... dev, apne aap se kabhi juth mat bolna, or tu jo bhi krega na hum usmein tere sath hai!!" saying this he left and I poured myself a glass of water, the scene from before in the evening playing in front of my eyes again and again!! I was thankful for the solitude for once, because I knew what they had said was true, she was affecting me in ways no one had ever affected me!! Yes, in that moment all I could think about was not her!! I decided to clear my head, and went for a shower... alas! That didn't help me either I was still haunted by that memory, when I decided I had to see her!!
I picked up my car keys and drove straight to her place.. I was apprehensive of knocking the door but after contemplating for a while I decided it was worth it!! I rang the bell and she opened the door the initial shock evident on her face, to lessen the awkwardness of the situation, I asked her gently "aap theek hai dr bose? I mean you are fine, right?"
she smiled and said " mai theek hoon"
i was not ready to leave yet so I prolonged the moment, when I kept staring at her and blurted "woh mai 5 mins ke liye aapse yeh puchne aaay tha ki aap theek hai ya nahi!!"
she smiled a warm smile and asked "coffee?" I smiled a genuine smile after ages, and stepped in.. she lived in a one bedroom flat and the house was bright decorated with lights the room had a low sitting arrangement, I sat down and she went straight into the kitchen, I had never felt so cozy, warm and fuzzy, in anybody's presence, she stirred my long, deep buried emotions!! I was so lost listening to her nonchalant attempts at a conversation that I forgot, not replying to somebody's words was poor manners!! I noticed the way her hands moved, her lips moved, her eyes sparkled, how she moved with a feline grace, "SP sir kahan kho gaye?" her words bought me to the land of the living!!
"nahi woh kuch nahi" I flustered!!
"mai theek hoon, aap mere liye worried mat hoiye" she said in a small voice, we were quite and I was mentally preparing myself to be pushed out the door any moment but she just sat there sipping her coffee!!
"aap coffee bahut aachi banati hai" I complemented her.. this was truly the best coffee I had ever had
she smiled and said "thank you"
i loved the way her cheeks flushed a pink, it added to her already beautiful face!!"actually ek or baat bhi thi, tum ne koi kasam kahi hai kya, ki mai jab kuch aacha krne niklunga tum ussi pub mein hogi.. matlab har baar tum mera mission sabotage kar deti ho!! Or tumhe, kuch ho jata toh!!" I said sipping the hot coffee
she just narrowed her eyes and said "aap mujhe accuse kar rahe hai!!"
i didn't mean to, so I said "nahi, matlab mujhe apna number dedo, taki next time mai tumse coordinate kr ke apna plan banaunga!!"
she just giggled and said "ladke ladhkiyon ka number nikalne mein kitne creative ho gye hai"
I blushed, she had caught me red handed, and I had unabashedly asked a girl for her phone number what was wrong with me!! "huh" I said to cover up my tracks and it worked because she flushed a deep red
"nahi, matlab mai aapko mera number de dungi!!" strangely she had not asked me my number
"kaise?" I asked her
she was not prepared for it, and blurted "woh nikki ne mujhe aapka number bahut pehle hi de dia tha!!"
"oh really, ladkiyan ladko ka number nikalne mein bahut creative ho gayi hai" I said taking a sip of my coffee and keeping my eyes fixed at her, and she opened her mouth to defend herself when I laughed an effortless sound "kidding" I said and she relaxed and giggled I stood up and proceeded towards the door she opened it and her loose tresses fell over her face and covered it from my view, before I could stop myself I had raised a hand to tuck them behind her ears.. to my utter surprise, she did not flinch, or feel awkward at my touch, she did not pull away either, I pulled my hand away and said "i hope tum theek ho or koi bhi problem ho toh mujhe call kr dena!!" she just smiled and nodded like an obedient child, and one final look, and I was out of her building.. I breathed in the fresh air and smiled and drove back home..
