Chapter 8
They decided after a lot of research and discussion that the IB School selected by Dev was the best option for Shreya. The date of the interview was fixed for a week later. Dev insisted that they don't pressurize or force Shreya into over preparing for it. Sona decided to join her old hospital in Delhi a couple of weeks later. Two days later, when Dev came home from work, he found the house to be silent with the exception of Sona who was reading a medical journal sitting on the sofa. He asked surprised "Where is everyone?" Sona said "They have all gone to Neha's house for a jagrata and they will be back early morning. I stayed back because I know you don't attend these functions". He sat down and loosened his tie. "I wanted to play with Shreya and then read her favourite story to her" he said sulking, looking remarkably like Shreya when Sona asked her to do something she did not like. Sona just smiled and told him "Change and come I will lay the table". They ate in comfortable silence. Dev was in his room reading a business magazine leaning against the headboard when Sona came in and went to the dressing room to change. He heard her come back and looked up and was surprised. Instead of her usual nightdress she was wearing something lacey, the colour of champagne, a dress that came upto her ankles and was held up by two thin straps leaving her shoulders otherwise bare. She came closer, took the magazine out of his hands and put in on the side table. She came and sat next to him on the bed and smiled and asked him "How am I looking?" Dev was stunned at how young she looked. Though there were a few lines around her eyes, they enhanced her beauty. He looked at her bare shoulders the colour of melted caramel. It was obvious she was wearing nothing underneath. He leaned forward and asked her "Are you sure about this?" She just nodded and looked at him into his eyes. He held her cheeks gently with both hands and kissed her on her lips, first gently and then a little forcefully when she started responding. The kisses continued and by degrees they became longer and much much more intimate. Then their brains realized that they also needed to breathe and they moved apart for a few seconds... gulping for air but hearts still thundering away. They couldn't stay apart for even those few seconds and reached for each other at the same time.
Seeing the desire dancing in Dev's eyes, Sona suddenly felt shy and got up from the bed and stood by the side leaning against wall. Some of the light from the bedside table fell on her face ... and when Dev looked at her like that leaning against the wall... her eyes closed .. her breasts heaving... he was so turned on he couldn't resist himself. He got up and held her tight hug and whispered into her ears "Please don't ever leave me again. I will not be able to survive a heartbreak this time. Main mar jaaunga... samjhi na tum". Sona nodded and placed a kiss on his cheek. Dev turned her around, with her back on his chest and his arms around her. He kissed her shoulders and immediately bit it and compensated for the bite with a wet kiss. Sona couldn't understand what was happening to her. Dev continued with his kisses and slipped the straps off her shoulders one by one. She was feeling shy and wouldn't turn around to face Dev. Dev quickly tore off his tshirt and pyjamas and held her by her shoulders and gently turned her around. Sona was looking so beautiful but yet so shy. Her eyes were down and her cheeks were flushed. Dev her chin gently and made her look up and said "Look at me Sona... Isn't this what you want too? Lets not go ahead if you are not ready". Sona's eyes filled up and she said "I am ready Dev its just that I am not sure if I am good enough for you". Kissing her gently on her lips Dev said "Don't ever say that ... I am the one who is not good enough for you. I love you so much Sona". Saying that he picked her up and put her on the bed gently and continued to look at her as if her were seeing her for the first time.
Sona then reached out and pulled him onto her and started kissing every inch of his skin that she could touch. Dev kissed her back hard. They explored and kissed every inch of each other before experiencing ecstasy together. After a while, Sona lay tired in Dev's arms, her eyes closed and her head on his shoulder and his hands protectively around her. Dev was awake and he was stunned at how he felt. He felt as if he was set free after years of imprisonment. And all thanks would be to the wonderful woman lying next to him. He leaned and gave her a kiss on her forehead. She just mumbled something in response. He fell into a contented sleep.
When the new day dawned, Sona opened her eyes slowly and felt Dev's arms still around her and she realized that Dev was awake and was looking at intently. She looked at him and said "Good Morning Dev!". Dev smiled and said "Good Morning my sunshine!" He then moved the sheet covering her and looking at the marks on her body that he left behind last night he said "I am sorry, I was a little wild last night". Sona shyly said "It was wonderful Dev so don't apologise". Saying that she got up and went in for a shower. Dev just looked up at the sky and thanked his stars for getting Sona into his life again.
Soon they settled into a routine... Shreya in her new school, Sona in the hospital though she continued to visit Mumbai every fortnight to catch up on her NGO and Dev at work. Shreya became so attached to her grandmother and buas that a stranger would not be possible to understand that six months ago they did not know each other at all.
About ten months later, Sona discovered one morning that she was pregnant. She was very happy and she shared the news with Dev as soon as she came out of the bathroom. Dev's reaction was surprising. He said "Are you sure that you want to have this baby. I don't want Shreya to feel insecure. After all she is my first born and she is almost six. I also don't want you to have any problems Sona". Sona was surprised and very touched and said "Of course she will be happy. Just because we are having a baby does not mean that she will be loved any less". Everyone in the Dixit and Bose family were excited about the impending new arrival.
Their son arrived nine months later on a warm summer day in the early morning. Dev was there with her in the labour room, every step of the way in green scrubs. He held onto her hand tightly. Ishwari, Bijoy, Asha, Saurav, the three buas and Shreya were all waiting outside nervously. Ishwari and Asha were more worried about Sona as she was not very young. But Shreya was the one who was most excited about the new arrival. When the nurse came out and announced that it was a healthy baby boy, a shout of joy went up in the waiting area. Then Dev came out with his new born son swathed in cloth outside. The crowd all swooped to the baby all wanting to hold him. But when Dev noticed Shreya standing quietly apart watching everyone around, he said loudly "The first person to hold the new baby would be the baby's elder sister - come here Shreya". Hearing her father's word, Shreya broke into a big smile and she came running to him and said "Thank you Papa. Can I hold him?" Dev placed the baby in her small hands and he helped her hold the baby. She was so happy and placing a kiss on the baby's cheek she said "Papa doesn't he look like me?" "Of course Beta - he looks just like my princess - only that my princess is a little more beautiful" Dev said hugging both his children.
Later, when Sona was feeding little Aarav, Dev looked at her lovingly and said "I can't thank you enough Sona for all the happiness you have given me". Sona said "I am so happy that i cant tell you...". Dev looked at her with a smile and said "Always remember Sona that Shreya is my daughter and more importantly my first born child. She will always have the first right over everything I have."
Saying that he came and gave Sona a tight hug.
