Tia, male relatives also?Because when i was 20 I would have struggled with that scene if my dad was there(and I come from a fairly conservative family from a large city)
same is at my place ...i can discuss anything and everything wid my father or brother or obviously mother ..but then things are very different at my in laws ...but wen u get d convenience to talk abt everything under d sun i feel u gel up better wid ur family coz u have nth to hide and are never out of topics to talk
Yes. Male relatives as well. I watched a lot of hollywood movies with my male cousins.I know for India, my family might seem over liberal. But my grandmother, while she never went to high school, read books from all over the world (Bengali translation) that she bought from Calcutta Book Fair every year. So I read them too.She also travelled more countries than me, including USA, Canada and Bahrain in Middle East, not to mention all over India.Because of her, everyone in our family are encouraged to discuss anything that they have questions about and if one of the elders can't answer because may be they don't know or is confused, we were told to use our library card to research (before internet) or google (after internet) to find out.I am from a big city too (Kolkata), now live in Toronto. I never had any culture shock when I came to Canada because I was brought up like most of my Canadian friends. It was not same for my friends though. They were brought up mostly the way most Indian families are. So you can say we are kind of different which even our neighbours know. Lol...There was nothing taboo or shameful to discuss in our household. If a topic exists in the world, then it can be discussed.
