I usually watch the show alone since my husband doesn't understand Hindi. But I can pretty much watch the show with anyone in my family at least. I watched Titanic and Fatal Attraction with my mother, hickey is nothing in compared to that. But my family might be the exception. We discuss anything and everything under the sun with each other (but not with the children in the family of course).

I am going to sound very sceptical and 'negative'. I am seriously trying to understand how appropriate is the explicit and implicit reference to love bites in a family drama.. Movies are different.. they are 3 hour long and you usually know what's Parental guidance and what isn't.
So can the following conversation happen on KRPKAB on screen?:

Dev & Sona in the car

Sona: Arey Dev, please who medical store pe rokiyega.. I need to buy my tampons. I used my last one just before I left
Dev: um... chalo. Main bhi aata hun. Tumhara who favourite chocolate flavour raincoat bhi khareed leta hun
Dev (under his breath): Ab Miss Bose pura hafta pass nahi aane dengee...

I know this is a rude thing to post. But how is a discussion on tampons and condoms any different to a reference to a hickey? Has our society in general moved to that point?

I would love for us to reach a point where girls can openly talk about their period in front of their brothers and fathers and women can have the privacy to breastfeed. But have we?

Tia, male relatives also?

Because when i was 20 I would have struggled with that scene if my dad was there(and I come from a fairly conservative family from a large city)

Indian TV show these kind of things r shown now.In 3 shows .They have showed about Condom.During the first night. In one show FL will tell to ML that she missed the cycle.Need to check doctor.

I usually watch the show alone. Some time my mom joins me.My did not find odd reg mention of Hickey. Now parents know about these things also. They also grow up with kids n some time be like a freind with them.I can openly discuss about anything with my dad n mom.

I don't think Sony receives that kind of family audience, to be honest. In families with single Televisions, where the whole family sits around and watches TV together, they probably tune into the other GECs with more predictable fare. It's easy enough to see this when you look at the ratings. In recent times, Sony seems to be embracing its role as a niche content provider, and that is how I see this show.

I would absolutely love to see more depictions of women on their periods as part of everyday life, as you described, but that seems to be a huge issue anywhere in the world. Lately, women coming together on the internet to make periods more accessible in pop-culture via comics and sketches. Beyond that, I have hardly seen any accurate, sensitive depictions in any genre, in any language. The only exceptions I can think of are in a few romcoms. Otherwise, PMS is always a gag about women being moody and irrational.

Neha would have actually been a great character through which to explore this facet of women's lives. I travel to a lot of remote places for my work, and I am usually fine with the bare minimum in terms of facilities, but it gets really tricky only when I am on my period. That is when I most appreciate my attached bathroom at home! When I think about Neha's adjustment in Ranveer's house, I wonder how that all ironed itself out. Did her bhabhi show her how they disposed of their waste? Did she have to ask? Did Ranveer even consider these questions?

I completely agree that the lack of exposure and discussion on menstruation is a problem, and there should be a push for more. At the same time, in a different vein, I am also happy that the discussion is opening up around sex and sexuality. Only when people are able to talk about it more freely will there be an opening for good education on the subject. In India, there is so little discussion of sex, especially among young women, that they depend on movies, books, and shows to understand how it works. Sona and Dev are two respectful, consenting adults and I think depicting a healthy level of sexuality between them (without glorifying it as this hallowed culmination of their union) is a positive thing.
