Only time will tell what the makers have in mind. If I had to guess here is what I would say. It's all about insecurities and satisfaction. How our insecurities manifest is different.

Let's take the ishu dev-sona triangle first. Ishwari always likes sonakshi. She knows sonakshi is a nice girl. She knows her son is a vegetable without sonakshi. She is highly dependent on her son and wants to maintain her Goddess status. In her mind, Sonakshi can shake that. Sonakshi is victim of her own success. She got into everything and Ishwari already knew from when she was her nutritionist what sonakshi is capable of achieving. Thus sona is a much greater threat to Ishwari. Also Ishwari has a lot more to lose if Sonakshi starts holding the purse strings which sonakshi has no plan to do, but unfortunately Ishwari still thinks so. She said it - a mother (and she means just herself ) keeps on wanting to be part of her son's life

Now let's look at elena - vicky and GKB. Firstly GKB knows her son too well. As much as he might stand up for Elena for now, she knows their love has no depth. Vicky is no Dev. Elena is no sona. Now she also knows sona is a much greater threat to her status quo than elena. Elena is literally a toy her son has and can't affect much in this house. She is just a loud mouth who has no aspirations.

I don't think dev standing up (except for the instances that sandy mentioned above), for Sona would help. Sona has started making her own place. She strategized and has started earning the respect
