But there are some points where I beg to differ. One of the major ones being the potrayal of Dev's character. He is a big businessman who has mastered various managerial skill sets. These skills are not mutually exclusive to social skills like gauging a person's mood or emotions. And I refuse to believe that a guy of that intellect who has developed that ability to read people cannot see what is happening right in front of him. Skills like communication, observing people's behaviour, how they respond in certain situations etc are core managerial skills and we are made to believe Dev possesses all of them. We have seen that in action as well. He knew the kind of man kushal Roy was coz of his business sense. There was no underlying romantic intent behind this. He could make out ranveer was essentially a good guy. It was his presence of mind and his ability to know his sister that made him doubt whether this alliance would last. He knew ritwik was the guy for Sonakshi. And it was the knowledge that ritwik is better suited for her than himself is what ate at him and what made him wreck havoc on all of their lives. The only thing he knew with absolute certainty was that Sonakshi loves him. And that even though ritwik was logically better suited for her, she won't be happy with him. All of this was consistent with his character graph. In the last few weeks, Dev is behaving like a completely different person. Forget noticing the unsaid, he is not able to fulfil even the most basic promises he makes to Sonakshi and is quick to take cover under lies.
Like you said, the actors themselves aren't very happy with their characters right now. And though I applaud you for finding a deeper meaning in the potrayal of situations currently, I have my doubts as to whether the makers have really given this as much thought. Coz if they had, and this is what they wanted to show, they would've made the actors understand the underlying importance of what is being asked of them. And I'm sure actors of great calibre like supriyaji and shaheer would understand and would continue to support the show and their characters if they were made to understand why the character is behaving the way he/she is. That this is the essential reality they want to show.
The reason I'm sceptical of this theory is, the TRPs have been increasing from the time this OTT saas torturing the bahu track started. That goes to show, the Ishwaris, nehas and GKBs of this world are able to relate to this regressive thinking. Only maybe 0.1% of the audience would really care to find this meta connection of the potrayal of women in patriarchal societies. The rest would lap up the drama and the large base of urban audiences who relate to Sonakshi's character would quickly get tired of this regressive message that is being projected as of now and would prefer to just stop watching .
This is strictly my POV, no offence meant to anyone. I would like to once again state that I really liked how you brought out the finer nuances of the characters, it's just that I doubt the makers have really given this as much of a thought as you have :)

With due respect to TM who analysed the show with deeper insight and enthralled the readers with her thoughtful presentation ,I second Malavikaji's objection ...Yes I too feel the makers wouldn't have thought as deeply as the TM felt . For I also agree that veteran actors like Supriyaji and Shaheer would have definitely supported the makers had they been given proper explaination and reasoning for the way their ch. behave of late.
I genuinely agree that they are just moulding the scenes and ch.s keeping in view TRPs. It is quite disheartening to witness a show like KRPKB touch the lows and get predictable and boring

Sam what a beautiful analysis...👏
quite long...but amazing - mazaa aa gaya...!!!😃

love these lines of urs...So true...
Judging something as right or wrong, makes us feel good about our own moral compass, but there is no personal/intellectual growth in that.

But it's all the same at the core: women fighting for favour with men, resisting change, and perpetuating and protecting the existing family structure.

Such a beautiful way of comparison...
The difference between this show and normal TV soaps, is that those shows assume their audience understand certain things where this show helps us access and unpack those concepts.

A new learning for me... thanks for evoking that...forgotten emotion...
They need more empathy than disconnect of relations...
Honestly, I see the apprehension about marriage this show has created as a positive thing. Let's all be more educated as a society about what marriage might entail, so we can make informed decisions about our lives, instead of expecting fairytales from the institution of marriage. Let's look at the women in our lives who are less like Sona and more like Ishwari, GKB, and Neha with empathy rather than judgment. How did they become that way, and how can we begin to understand their condition so we can give them the tools they need to seek out their own peace of mind?

I strongly believe it so too...thanks for supporting the cause...
I really believe this show is doing something important, outside of the usual, in-your-face, didactic mould that Indian popular fiction has followed since time immemorial.

so agree with red highlighted...
i also cannot agree or understand... how a young CEO who claims to know his mom so well...
is oblivious about his mother's acceptance...
And also about Sona living in fairytale world...that all is well...
like a clock pendulum..am stuck.. between this thought n that of Sam...😕

Thanks for your post Sam... Since you address this to the forum in general some of my points might come across as defensive or aggressive. They aren't meant to be and I will be mindful of what I say and how I say it

I am by and large with @Malvika07, @minnie2308, @LiveLife321 and @ltelidevara on this one

To me, KRPKAB is a love story. It's a journey of a couple whose love will conquer all. Now that sounds clichd and cheesy. Because it is. The title is very clear - Love has all shades. Like I said in one of my posts the couple will conquer all when they speak each other's love language.

I don't understand how TRPs work. This show wouldn't ever get a great viewership and I am sure the makers know that too. Love Stories aren't as much of a hit as something like say sultan which wasn't through and through a love story - It was a sport-drama (just an example).

So coming to our show... I am sure the makers know its never going to be a hit like say Shanti (If anyone recalls the 90s show which had cult following back then). Why? Two reasons - Drama (or the lack of) and uncomfortable topics (that we sometimes dont want to face)

DRAMA - While everyone of these characters are realistic and we see bits of them around us, the overall flow was not dramatic. There was no drama and drama makes shows hit. And I for one am thankful for that. (I used to love Shanti, but am ready for change)

UNCOMFORTABLE TOPICS - Any of you recall Saans from the 90s? Our dad wouldn't even let us watch it and back then there was one TV set in the living room. Why was my otherwise pretty liberal father not letting us teenage girls watch a show on adultery. He found it an uncomfortable topic to be discussed in our home.

KRPKAB is doing the same. Its bringing out the issues that lie within all of us without over dramatising them (they are done so subtly that we dont even realise until after a few episodess what exactly happened there. I congratulate the makers). There are relatives who swing from one side to the other, there are dads who endorse their daughters in front of her in laws, there are mothers who always want to have a piece of their sons, there are wives who are always desperate to make a mark in their new home and there are husbands who love their wives to no end but don't know how to stand up for them without offending the other females in the household. None of them are right or wrong. (Disclaimer: I am in team Devakshi and I strongly believe we will see their bond grow stronger and this fondness will show us how deep love runs). However, each one of them make a section of the viewers uncomfortable. The show is almost a victim of its own success. The show leaves us with questions we sometimes don't want to face.

The loyal viewers totally get what the makers want to show. Their ways are leaving us frustrated... Not because we wanted to see Neha toil in the kitchen while Devakshi honeymoon in Paris... But because we (atleast I) love what the makers have created and don't want it going down the drain. I don't think they are sticking to the original story-line. How can they? I don't think they had a script for 200+ episodes when they started. All they had was an idea they wanted to present. This is a living breathing script and can be moulded as they wish or based on the feedback they get. Annnd... therein lies my anxiety - I 100% agree with you, the core factor here is fear (I called them sehemi sonakshi, darpok Dev and Insecure Ishwari about 2 months or so ago). Now, this fear can either be dealt with (and I know it takes time. The trouble is its going round and round in a downward spiral.. I am waiting with abated breath for the uplift) or this show can end with lots of open questions for us viewers to mull over.

I am sorry, but while it is about misery.. Misery of the daughter in law, son, son in law, mother, mother in law ... I don't think that is the crux of the show. The crux (atleast for me) was a modern love story and I wish the makers keep showing modern situations and solutions in the show.

beautiful writing... 👏👏👏

but i slightly disagree with the last line.. although lovely way of thinking...😃

Sona comes from a modern family.. while Dev's is steadfast traditional...
His mother is liberal to Dev for his belief...rest all is hardcore traditional...

Ma next to God.. paanv choona..glorifying all motherly acts...as the best
and also keeping quiet to mamiji...due to respect we need to show to all elders.. only for the fact that by age they are elderly...not by their mere acts...

So this is a blend of both modern n traditional...and hence we will see a glimpse of new age tadka on the old routines...

take for eg the fever incident...that just got over...

I wish someone turned this into an article so that every fan of this show get to read this .

Sam I would request you to write more if the time permits

Thank you! You know, honestly, it's not really a question of time. For a while now, I have read and understood the characters and the show very differently from others on the forum. That's fine, but it makes it less enjoyable for me to participate here as I mostly end up defending my POV instead of really getting into discussion. A majority of the time, it's much more enjoyable for me to watch the show on its own. 😊

Agree to T that women are dispensible in household. Its a constant 'musical chair' in families. Sarcastically would like to say its a women's rat race. Have seen women in my own family who claim tht thy are yet to be accepted whole heartedly even after 30 years of marriage.

I have doubts too in my own life whether i am in or not in the family. And it is not overnight miracle its a process where all the members have to identify common grounds nd agree to meet midway. Shoutout to all the unmarried women in the forum.. dont feel disheartened by the discussions in the forum nd the way show is heading.. its a process each nd every women undergoes in their life nd ultimately helps everyone of them identify their strenghts nd weaknesses

Its a take it or leave it situation which they are showcasing in the show. You either decide to learn frm it nd draw strength frm it or refrain frm watching it instead of bad mouthing it. You either make urself or break urself. Choice is urs. Salute to women power

Thanks so much for your amazing response! I completely agree that empathy is somethign that is highly underrated but completely essential to enjoy this show. Only when you are able to see the layers of every character are you able to relish how truly complex they are! For someone like myself who enjoys characterisation, this show has been a treat from the beginning!

It's funny that you mention 30 years of marriage, because my parents had been married almost that many years when my grandmother (dad's mom) passed away a few years ago. My mother says that until the end, she didn't feel like she had acceptance from her MIL. They both respected each other's place in my dad's life, but they never had a very deep relationship of their own. My mom says she knew that my grandmother was really ill when she asked her to go into the kitchen and make coffee; the first time she ever willingly let my mother handle her kitchen! A lot of my deeper understanding of this show comes from the experiences my mother shares with me, and how closely she relates to Sona's efforts to fit in. It makes the issues on the show feel very real and immediate.
