Kuch Rang was always and never a saas-bahi show;

Honestly speaking, I am quite surprised with the way every-one is talking about Kuch Rang being a saas-bahu drama because in all honesty, what I interpreted from the first episode till the episode telecasted on Friday has not changed. Why the sudden rage and outburst is beyond me.

The show was about a dysfunctional family and a normal family. It was suppose to follow a transition of a mature and practical love story surfacing in the life of a man who has essentially been a "mamma's boy" and had always thought about his family first.

The show started with Neha complaining about the discrimination between her and Dev's happiness when Ishwari refused to get Dev married. Her and Dev's approach towards the alliance was VERY different at that time. Dev wasn't sure if he was ready for that step in his life since marriage and thinking about himself has never been a priority for him and Ishwari wasn't ready to give Dev up because it was not a good idea for Dev to marry; a reason she kept on repeating until Natasha entered and was tied to the loss and profit of Dev's company.

So far we had Dev's journey of love evolve and him figure out that he has complete right to be himself. The current tracks focus on how Dev's two world can and cannot merge. Ishwari spent her whole life being Dev's mom and unintentionally neglecting rest of her children. Her family, her thought-process and mentality is extremely regressive. It is evident thorough Neha's upbringing and the lack of acknowledgment of her life-worries that Ishwari never learnt to stand up without the protection of a man.

She had her husband, then her brother and then her son.

Majority of Indian/South Asian families follow a dysfunctional dynamic that is usually toxic and the underlying theme of this show, from what I have interpreted; is to resonate towards building ourselves through the support of love instead of relying on love. To put it easier words and quoting Dev Dixit, "sahare ki zaroorat nahi hai, saath ki zaroorat hai."

> Dev's love for Sonakshi centers around him not just being content with her standing next to him, but needing her seal of approval on every brilliant thing he does. He puts the people close to him on a pedestal as he has put Ishwari on a pedestal of being a God.
> Ishwari has a dysfunctional and extremely toxic relationship with Dev as well where she has compartmentalize his personality. To her, Dev appears as a little boy trying to make his mother proud and besides pushing Dev to work hard, she has nothing that strikes out in her personality.

May the dynamic of a wife and mother on opposite sides make Kuch Rang appear as a Saas-bahu saga, but it has never been a saas-bahu story and never will be. So far even with minor changes in tracks here and there, the script has not wavered from the plot.

This show airing on television maybe well ahead of it's time because this show takes the regressive parts of our lives and then shows that that regression isn't good and we should move forward. Perhaps that is misinterpreted by layman viewers and that execution is the fault but the rage and anger after 80+ episodes of KRPKAB turning into a saas-bahu drama is beyond me.

Well tbh, even I don't think it is a saas bahu drama.. Even after 200 episodes, I feel KRPKAB stands out as the most unique show I have ever seen...
As for saas bahu drama thing goes.. it's actually not the viewers that concern me.. The lead actors of the show themselves have called it a saas bahu drama..That's what is probably strange to see..

I have to agree with you it is well ahead of its time and not the normal mil and dil drama..and it is a breath of fresh air... ..due to lack of patience some are saying it is turn into a typical drama but it is not...there is a major story and it is being told and the story revolves around three individuals and how there lives are changing...the son must now balance his love for his wife with the love of his mother...it is a show with a difference... and cannot be compared with no other...

Exactly! Good post ... I agree with ur points.
Not just the viewers but the main lead of the show commented in social media by I read n saw.
First it was shaheer n every live chat Erica agreed with the viewers that it had become Saas bahu type n today I read it was Supriyaji commenting ..
First of all they r the main lead\face of the show .. how can they be irresponsible on social media when talking to the viewers.
Never had any compliments about the show whether it is script , dialogues , plot or acting ... every one doing their job perfectly till current
Still loving the show

Agree with you completely ... viewers should have patience
Looks like most who r bashing are teenagers or young adults
They r more vocal in social media ... whereas most of the viewers above 30
Understand the storyline the emotions n the journey of 3 main lead so keeping patience n liking the show the most but unfortunately they r not vocal or active in expressing their thoughts
That's an issue too not knowing that many viewers have no complaints about the show

Maybe the leads themselves are impatient? I have no idea why they reacted in that way. In my POV, the show took a regressive equation and is showing how it doesn't have to be a regressive equation but can be a breath of fresh air.

It would be a MIL/DIL drama if Ishwari disliked Sonakshi or vice versa but that is not the case at all. Instead they both like each other and respect each other a lot. They are having difficulty with accepting that there interaction wasn't a crossroad interference, but actually beginning of new relationships.

I was quite surprised when Shaheer tweeted but hen I dismissed because maybe he felt that the track's execution was not up to par. The whole confusion even in fans' mindset is because of dubious execution but that itself is an asset of the show to make us see how there are so many different perspectives in every equation of a relationship.

Kind of surprised with Supriya ji's outburst though because she was part of a comedy saas-bahu show and the equation of saas-bahu and the equation she shares with Sonakshi is quite different.

agree

after Devakshi marriage ,i thought the serial wud shift its focus on Sona and Ishwari more, but i was surprised to see nothing like that .So for me too its not at all a saas bahu saga...its still very much mother son story with a new addition Sonakshi as a wife of Dev.
And for me the central character is Dev because both the women in his life are fighting for him.

Completely agree and what a good post 👏
For me its a fabulous show. Perhaps people get a feeling of uneasyness watching what happens in many Indian household. But this too is a reality of great India culture, where not all but some women are still taunted at their in-laws place from day 1, and no one stands for them. Where men are considered and treated differently even If both men and women are educated and are professionals. Psychological problems remains unaddressed in today's world and all the family does is hide it behind in the name of reality or it had always been like that so it doesn't matter If it continues the same. Its the new generation which needs to learn and accept the faults in ones culture and try to change it for better. Stop being part of the same regressive cycle in the name of reality and sab chalta hai dialogues.
