Part 5

Sonakshi stood in shock with her jaw hanging open and eyes wide as she looked at what she had done.

She had spit out her coffee. Correction, Dev's coffee.

On Dev's shirt. Without his permission.

Wait, why would one need permission to spit out coffee? What was wrong with her mind?

She meant to think that she had sipped Dev's coffee, without his permission, assuming it was hers.

But why did Dev say that this was his coffee? And what was he doing here in Mr. Dixit's cabin? Did he and Mr. Dixit know each other. Sona grew even more confused.

While Sona, frozen in that position, fought with her mind over all these questions, she also paid close attention to what Dev was doing. He had scrunched up his brows and was continuously wiping his shirt with a handkerchief which he had dipped into a glass of water before applying. He looked cute when he was concentrating hard on something. Now that Sona noticed, he looked amazing in the blue shirt and black suit. While she continued her analysis, Dev frustrated that the dabbing wasn't helping, looked back at Sona, "Aap pagal hai kya? Meri shirt kharab kardi! Ek ghantey me meri board meeting hai. Aur wahan mujhey yeh coffee stain waali shirt pehenkey jana padega!" he all but exploded.

Sona snapped out of her thoughts. "S-sorry. Main achanak aapko dekhkey darr gayi thi. Aur mujhey pata nahin tha ki coffee aapki ki hai!" Sona replied still not having registered the situation properly. "Mere cabin mein coffee hoga, toh mere liye hi hoga naah? Aur aap yahan kar kya rahi hai? Pichha kar rahi thi mera?" Dev asked looking at her suspiciously, but a tiny, very tiny part of him was actually happy to see the mad scooty girl again. That seemed to annoy him even more. The moment he asked that question Sona was back in action "Excuse me! Kya kahan aap ney? Mein aur aapka pichha? Please, apne aap ko itna importance mat dijiye. Mein toh yahan Mr. Dixit se milney ayi hoon, jiske cabin mein aap baithey hai. Unsey meri appointment hai" Sonakshi said with her nose in the air, to show that he didn't matter to her at all, but secretly she was excited to see him again. But she would die before she admitted that to anyone.

Dev kept glaring at her while she told him why she was here but the moment she said that she had come to meet Mr. Dixit for an appointment he paused. "Apki Mr. Dixit se appointment hai? Kis baat ke liye?" he asked even though he already knew the answer but prayed that he would be proven wrong. "Dekhiye, pata nahin aap isko apna cabin kyun bula rahein hai, but Tina ne mujhsey kaha hai ki yeh Mr. Dixit ka cabin hai, aur mujhey unsey baat karna hai, aap sey nahi!" Sona said crossing her arms and challenging his glare with one of her own.

But before Dev could respond Sonakshi suddenly realised what was happening. She had come to meet Mr. Dixit and found an empty cabin and a coffee mug. Then she had spit coffee on Dev which he claimed was his and claimed this cabin was his too.

Oh, My God.

"Aap Mr. Dixit hai?" Sonakshi asked horrified!

Dev kept his expression stern on the outside, but inside he was laughing so hard at her expression. "Haan. Devrath Dixit" he said while extending his hand towards Sonakshi. When she didn't say anything, and continued staring at him, he smiled a small, an almost invisible smile, and asked her sceptically "And if my speculations are correct, aap Dr. Sonakshi Bose hai, the new nutrionist for my company?" Sonakshi nodded her head wordlessly, but when a split second later she realised that he was saying with an expression that said he didn't completely believe her, she was back on track "Kyuun? Mein nutrionist nahin ho sakti?" she asked him angrily. "Meine aisa toh nahin kahan Dr. Bose" Dev replied with that small smile still on his face. This irked Sonakshi even more, "Par aap yahi imply kar rahey the. Aap jaise logo ko mein bohot achhi tarah janti hoon. Rich, arrogant, cocky and rude!" she said on impulse. "Now now, Dr. Bose, koi aapney boss se aise baat kartein hai kya? Who bhi on their first day at work?" Dev said, but there was not even a hint of anger on his face, instead, Sonakshi realised, it seemed like he was having fun!

The gall of that man! But before he could open her mouth to respond, her mind reprimanded her. He was right. She was being childish. She should be professional. After all, he was such a powerful and successful business man and this was her big breakthrough job. She couldn't behave like this. But what could she do. This man seemed to affect her more than anyone else and she couldn't understand why.

Seeing Sonakshi so quiet, Dev assumed that the fear of losing the job had made her quiet. Dev broke the silence by picking up the file with the final details of Sonakshi's contract and the list of employees with their medical records and saying "Dekhiye. Mein chahta toh aapko abhi nikal deta, kyunki aapney aatey hi mujhpey coffee girayi aur phir mujhey bina janey hi itney sarey compliments de diya. But meine aisa nahin kiya." Seeing Sonakshi's eyes cloud with guilt he mentally pumped a fist into the air.

He continued, "Yeh rahi who details jo mujhey aapke saath discuss karna tha. Apney jo yeh mujhey atey hi gift diya" Dev said pointing at the coffee stain, "mujhey who theek karna hai before the board meeting. And for that mujhey abhi ghar jakar shirt change karna padega, which means ki mujhey aapse baat karney ka time nahin milega." Sona felt even guiltier now. "Toh aap yeh file padhiye and jo bhi puchna ho, Tina se clear kar lena. Apka cabin is right opposite to Tina and mine." As Sona took the file into her hands, Dev said "Aap ghar jakey yeh files padh lena and they should be finished before you come to work tomorrow. You can start the meetings from tomorrow. Aap ab jaa sakti hain" Dev said dismissing her with a wave.

Sonakshi slowly walked out the door. As she walked away to leave, Dev opened the door and called out "Dr. Bose." Sonakshi turned around "Yes Mr.Obh- sorry, Mr. Dixit?" Dev ignored her slip up and smiled that annoying little smile again and saying, "Next time kahin coffee ka cup dikhein toh please ussey uthaney se pehley pooch lijiyega" saying that he closed the door and Sona was left standing there glaring at the door, imagining ten different ways to kill the great Mr. Obhodro Dixit!

"Itna sara kaam koi ek din mein kaise khatam kar sakta hai?' Sonakshi said hitting her head on her study table. She had just finished with a little more than half of the medical records of the employees. She still had at least twenty-five more records to go through and it was already 11:45 pm.

"Yeh sab uss Mr. Obhodro ki galti hai! Robot samjhtey hai kya mujhey?" she huffed angrily. "Thoda sa coffee kya gira diya, itni badi punishment!" she said while massaging her forehead with both of her hands. "Kal phir jaldi uthna hai. By ten office pahuchna hai. Kaise hoga?" she thought out loud. But she knew she would have to finish all this and reach work on time. She would not give Mr. Obhodro one reason to make fun of her or yell at her. So, she willed her brain to stop thinking of everything else and concentrate on her work. By the next one and a half hour, Sonakshi had finished reading everything.

She felt like a zombie. She got up and threw herself on to the bed. She had been working continuously since she had arrived home from Ishwari Communications. For the first time in her life she had had her dinner in her room because she didn't have the luxury to waste five minutes for dinner. Even though everyone in her family understood and didn't mind even a bit, she had to break a practice that had never been broken before, just because of that over confident Mr. Obhodro. She dragged the blanket over herself and switched the table lamp off. Her body ached from having sat continuously for such a long time, but even in this state sleep did not come to her immediately. She would have to wake up early tomorrow and she had set the alarm for seven just to be on the safe side. She could not be late tomorrow.

Now that she had the chance to think properly she thought back to all the things that had happened since morning. How was it even possible that out of so many people in the whole wide world, she had to work for this one Devrath Dixit, whom she had been meeting continuously since the last few days. That one Dev, no it would be wrong to call him that now, that one Mr. Dixit, who refused to leave her mind was now her Boss. Ridiculous! God knows what was in store for her. Before any other thought could drift into her head, Sonakshi succumbed to a deep sleep.

Sonakshi walked into Ishwari communications next morning five minutes early. She had set up her things in her cabin yesterday itself after Tina had shown her around it. She greeted Tina Good morning and walked into her cabin. She was supposed to meet Mr. Dixit before she started her meetings but Tina had informed her that he had to leave for a sudden meeting and would meet her at the end of the day instead.

After arranging a list of the people, she was going to meet today to discuss their medical details, Sonakshi went down to the canteen to get herself a cup of coffee. As she stood at the counter waiting for her order, said "Sonakshi?"

Sona turned around only to come face to face with someone she never wished to meet again.
