Hello. You are a brave young person! To come on a forum which had blind devotion for the leads, no matter how irrational they might be, and make a negative comment on them, needs courage :-) well done!
I have not read the 18 pages of comments but I am quite sure that much of it must not be complimentary :-)
I wonder what the reaction would have been if the male lead had not been "hot"? Though I don't find him hot personally, but many do see to think. Erica I think is pretty.
But the characters? I agree human beings are not black and white but grey but Dev is spineless. He is like a child whose favourite toy is taken away and instead of sorting it out, he sulks in a corner, throwing a petulant fit and whining away.
Sona, I can perhaps still understand. In a fit of anger and a bid to move on, she decided to get engaged to Ritwick. But she is guilty of bringing shame on her parents and putting their dignity at stake. She is also guilty of being unfair to Ritwick and making a spectacle of him and his family, but sometimes we do not think rationally.
Ishwari while I feel is unreasonable and insecure, I have seen enough mothers who are possessive about their sons and many sons who are unable to say anything to their mothers even if they know they are in the wrong. Marriages get destroyed by this tug and pull between mother and daughter-in-law and its not only the mom-in-law's fault at all times.
I do feel like whacking Sona for making a mess of everyone's lives and Dev for being such a cry baby And Sona does not realize, that it is her family and her who would suffer because of her stupidity. Society, sadly, doe snot take the man to task but will point fingers at her family, her upbringing, the spectacle that she made while Dev will walk away unscathed.
I would be very disappointed if Ishwari now agrees to the marriage and Sona says yes. Cos the decision has not been because Dev convinced his mom and made her change her mind, but made by Iswari finally capitulating seeing her son waste himself and her brother, bless him, trying to knock some sense into her.
Dev has had no contribution in changing her mind except to get drunk, behave like a wastrel and make a scene in other people's home and make a mockery of their dignity. If Sona is compelled by her love to say yes, after all this, then she and Dev deserve each other ! :-)
