Why shaheer said dev will return to his old life ?

If u will notice during initial promos ,we saw that they have breakup in 1st promo and in 2nd promo, sonakshi called him and dev asked her that u said you will never call me.
What I understand that maybe dev will come on engagement ceremony but he will not to stop it...he just came there to apologize from sonakshi and explain his reason and then he will go from there but after that , sonakshi will realise dev's importance in her life and she will understand that she is doing wrong by taking marriage decision or maybe ritwik will help her to realise her mistake.
And when she will understand then ,she will call dev as according to initial promos.
