just watched the promo shoot. I think the whole big Tamasha created by Dev to publicly show their relationship that has broken, is related to the journalist writing a sensational gossip piece about them. this would lead to the engagement to break, hence the ring falling. I think I saw Dev holding a drink glass too.

Oh Sona did understand and that's why she respected his decision of breakup with dignity. She knows If Dev comes to her or If they try getting together it would hurt his mother (oh God). Which in turn would hurt Dev only. So her decision of going away is the right one.
