Even during NATASHA's time when he was constantly looking up to his mother for guidance, she always told him that she will standby by him in whatever he decides and her happiness lies in his happiness.

Today he is extremely happy that he found his soulmate in Sona and like any other boy who never asked anything for himself, he is skeptical in telling his mother that he wants sona and dreams of living his life with her. In a way he was not yet prepared to break this news to his mother, when he was forced to admit his love to Eshwari due to her actions. once done with it, as he always believed that she will support him in all his decisions, he firmly believes that his mother is genuinely happy for him.
Like he said, Eshwari always treated Sona like one of her own daughters, but the fact that is unknown to him is : Eshwari can never accept anyone for her son because of her own insecurities.
Like Neha pointed out, the more he likes sona, the more the mother will be against her.
If we carefully look at the suicide promo, its neither Dev nor Sona about whom Eshwari was thinking about. She was pondering about her own self... her emotions and her behaviour. She is very well aware of the fact that Dev is searching for happiness on her face whereas she is not happy from within. she is in state of emotional turmoil and for once, Dev is unable to comprehend it. Dev feels he knows his mother but the person with real emotional bonding with the mother is Neha and not Dev. Neha knows her mother like the back of her palm as depicted too often and she is vocal about Eshwari's shortcomings.
the suicide attempt will serve as litmus test for both Dev and Eshwari to do a reality check on their bonding

well said 👏

I cannot say that it is his fault alone. But he has contributed a lot for this chaotic situation and his mother' possessive psychotic behaviour. Has he ever thought at least once about his sisters when his mother was biasedly loving him?. He allowed everything .He did nt care when sisters say it out openly many occations. He was happy and even feeling proud. He did nt understand the consequences - the pain that his sisters esp neha had gone through. He was happy that other sisters just depend on neha not on mother the one who was/is declared to be only for him.
Please please don't term it as innocence.
Only both of them were travelling for a long time without allowing anyone inbetween. Now he chooses another companion in the journey in between. That too secretly .The other companion the mother would surely be offended. When he allowed the undivided love of his mother only towards him , He has to allow and accept its consequences too.
He says that Sona was the only tlhing that he wished for him. What about his mother ? She was just a mother of Dev. What about the opportunities... to learn , to have higher studies, to have his own identity , his career ,His status. Though his family including his sisters benifitted from all these things still they are dependents. Yes he lost his childhood. Neha too lost it. But dev got for what has lost. Neha did nt.
Unfortunately this is the situation of many men in our society. They would be silent when others are denied of their share. When they encounter dev like situation some become victims like dev, some force mothers to become victims and some their wives. Only a few realise at different stages of their life and try to mend it. Hope dev also does that!
Please don't take me wrong. I love all the characters esp dev and sona. I like Shaheer also from Navya days. So leave the actors and read. you would get what I tried say.

😆 It is funny how we want to find someone to blame for everything that goes wrong, isn't it? Honestly, I am not sure I completely agree that it is any 1 person's fault in this case.

When you are genuinely happy and satisfied and content in life, how do you hide that feeling? He has never been this happy before. He has been burdened by responsibilities, always making sure everyone is alright. Now, he feels happy for himself. How can he hide it? And why should he hide it? And whom should he hide it from? His mother? The one whom he respects and loves the most? That is an unfair expectation from him, don't you think? He wants to share his happiness with her. He wants to act normal in front of his mother and not pretend to be something he is not. If he is happy, he will act happy in front of her. Is he to be blamed for that?

Ishwari, she has always seen Dev put her in the highest pedestal. Anything that happens with him happens because of her. And now, she is seeing him really happy, but it is not because of her. And she is insecure, to a point of doing anything to get his attention back, to become No.1 in his life again. Her insecurity is bigger than her son's happiness. Isn't she even a little bit at fault here? And she is really acting happy in front of her son when she is not. And her attitude towards Sona has changed completely, but she does not show this change when Dev is around. Is that not planning? Why not just tell Dev that she thinks they should take things a little slow?

Sona can sense that she is unwelcome and hence tries her best to tell Dev to take things slow, but when he was trying that, she is the one who urged him to confess their love to his family as well. His reasons for keeping quiet may have been different, and the reason for his confession too... but Sona did want Dev to confess. Subconsciously, Dev may have been keeping quiet because he may have expected such a reaction from his mother, and rather than confront it, he chose to not tell her?

Anyway, a little bit of anxiety, happiness, confusion, insecurity, possessiveness etc from everyone... and a disaster is being created! Sighhh

How is this his fault ? How the heck is a boy supposed to know that his mom is so completely out of whack that she commits suicide at the thought of him loving someone ?

If it was AFTER marriage with everyday khit-pitt b/w sona and his mom and him always taking his sona's side then i would have understood her insecurity

Which mom is so freaking insecure of the idea that her son actually is a normal man who has the capacity of loving someone else other than her?

And as for not telling his mom - she was behaving as if he secretly got married and had 3 children. Their love story just started. People take time to tell their parents that they are involved with someone. You don't go and give every day-by-day account to mummy --> today i saw a girl, today i felt something in my heart, today i hugged her, today i felt it was more than a passing attraction etc etc. Does she want his everyday itinerary of his feelings?

Sona's father said it best - even though her family is so understanding, she also took time to tell them. People need their space too.

btw, she is not uncomfortable with sona as such. She has never once thought - is this girl good for my son, will she fit in this family, does she genuinely love my son? No. Not at all. She is uncomfortable with the idea of ANY girl who dev loves. For a mother so devoted, she did not once notice how happy Dev is because of sona. That he has someone to share his burden and worries. Her only concern is that His life should revolve around her only.

She is a 50 year old adult. Mother of 4 children. Can she stop behaving like Dev's jealous ex girlfriend. Its frankly creepy.
