DevAkshi SS: Hidden
Chapter 13
As soon as Sonakshi handed in the exam paper, she just knew she had passed the exam with flying colors. Her joy knew no bound. She quickly took out her phone to call but disconnected immediately as she realized he must be busy. So she decided to text.
"I'm DONEEE 🥳 !!!!"
And within 2 minutes, the reply came, making her heart jump.
"Congratulations, Love!"
"But I didn't even tell you how it went..."
" 😉"
"Don't mess with me! How do you know?"
"..."
Of course, what is she even thinking! It's Dev in the question. Her AB. Why would he ever need some loud and clear message when it came to her? She had always been transparent for him. "An open book, in Dev's precise words. A single look at her eyes and he'd always know.
"Sorry, I think Econ took all my brain's functioning ability lol"
"I was thinking the same... Anyway, Mein lene ajaun abhi? Let's go to a fancy restaurant for dinner to celebrate?"
Her heart picked up the pace as soon as she read the text. He wants to take me out for dinner? Her cheeks turned into the most beautiful shades of crimson but her eyebrows knitted together as she remembered her plans.
"Oh Dev, My friends were planning on going to eat out today since it is our last exam. But wait, I'll just tell them I can't come"
"That's okay. Go enjoy with them. I will fetch you another time ;) See you at home!"
She had a sudden urge to bang her head on the wall. What was the need to tell him? She looked up at the sky giving an exasperated look.
Can you just put some brain in my head at the right time?!
"Okay 😒"

On the other hand, Adi was sure he would die out of massive cardiac arrest if whatever he has been witnessing since morning goes on. When he entered Dev's cabin in the morning to let him know about his meetings today and hand in the important files for the conference, he had to blink a couple of times to make sure he was in his sense and not hallucinating. He had greeted with a "good morning, Sir to which he expected a stern nod as usual. But not only had Dev made Adi rub his ear as a confirmation to "Good morning, Adi, but also threw a smile at him for the first time in the last 5 years. And the smile was a kind that reaches your eyes. Adi had stood there like a statue with his mouth open and he was sure he would have remained in the same position if not for the nudge from Natasha, the receptionist of Dixit Industry, while she was leaving his cabin.
Fixing his framed glasses, coughing numerous time to make sure his voice was in the right place and no damage was done to it due to the shock, he had handed the files.
"Sir, just a reminder that the you have a conference today at 6 pm. And the Singhania deal-"
Dev raised his index finger to indicate him to stop as he felt the buzz of his phone that vibrated his polished desk. As soon as he saw the envelop sign popping on his phone, telling him he has a new message, he quickly opened it, knowing very well he it would be.
"I'm DONEEE !!!!"
And the lips of the owner automatically curved into a smile as he quickly typed away.
"Congratulations, Love!"
"Nope, this is a dream. Adi this is a dream. You can't make me fall in this trap. It's a dream. Sapna. Dream. Sapna. Dream. Sapna..."
Adi kept muttering quietly, concluding with utter confidence that whatever he is witnessing infront of him right is a mere dream and nothing else, because the world can turn upside down but Dev Dixit would never smile.
"Are you talking to yourself Mr. Adi?"
Dev frowned looking at his PA, not knowing what is wrong with his today as his behavior has been quite weird since morning.
"Not a dream?"
"Excuse me?"
Adi shook his head to make sure he is really in his senses.
"Are you feeling alright Mr. Adi Malhotra?"
"Oh...umm... so-sorry sir. Yes. I-I'm fine.", Adi stuttered, not knowing what to say.
Dev throwing another confused look at him went back to his phone as he felt the vibration yet once again.
"But I didn't even tell you how it went..."
Rolling his eyes at her stupid question, he decided to mess with her.
"
"Don't mess with me! How do you know?"
"...," Dev replied chuckling at his behavior. He felt like he was back to his Teenage days.
Was that a chuckle he just witnessed his boss gave away? Adi was now sure that he was hallucinating. Slapping his forehead, he decided to leave.
"Where are you going? We were in the middle of a discussion.", Dev said in a controlled voice.
Jumping, he turned around. "Sir, are you alright?"
Giving his a disbelieving look, wondering what was wrong with this soul, he answered frowning, "What would happen to me?"
"Sir, would you please pinch me?", Adi asked out of the blue
"Mr. Adi Malhotra, are you sure you had enough sleep last night?", asked dev, losing his patience.
"Yes sir. Are you alright?"
"Enough of this. Don't test my patience Adi. Your job will be at risk if you keep asking nonsense questions."
"Thank you sir! Thank you!", Adi breathed a sigh of relief closing his eyes. Finally he got to witness some normalcy in his boss's behavior. He thanked his stars for listening to his silent prayer for giving Dev his usual traits back.
"What the-"
Dev was about to blast on his PA, as the last thread of his control evaporated in the air, but the constant texts from Sonakshi caught his attention.
"Sorry, I think Econ took all my brain's functioning ability lol"
Grinning at her reply, he nodded in agreement before asking her out for the dinner.
Never mind! Adi's lips thinned coming across another abnormality in his boss. He looked out of the window, disappointed with his God for giving him hopes and then snatching it away.
As Dev Put his phone back in his pockets, he saw Adi looking at him in daze.
"So Mr. Adi, are you planning to continue or..."
"Sir, it is okay to rest one day "
"Mr. MALHOTRA!", Dev spat getting up from his chair.
As if he was functioned to do so, Adi stomped his right foot in fear while his hand rose up to salute as though reporting to a police officer, "SIR!"
Frowning at his unusual behavior, wondering what on earth was wrong with him, he closed his eyes to calm himself down.
"Will you please behave normally for the next 5 minutes or am I asking too much?", he asked controlling his anger, though his voice came out cold.
Yeh lo! Now I am behaving abnormally...
As he nodded in fear while fixing his glass properly on his sharp nose, Dev moved on with the discussion. Five minutes into it, and his phone beeped, revealing his lock screen, catching both of their attention.
One got his smile back while the other rubbed his eyes to while his jaws dropped to the floor. His lock screen had a picture of Dev and a girl whose eyebrows were knitted together, lips in a cute pout, nose in the most beautiful shade of pink and her lips had while dev had his arms around her neck, grinning.
As dev typed away to reply to Sonakshi, telling her to go with her friends, Adi's mind couldn't make the head or tail of the picture, neither did he pin point the reason behind his changed behavior.
"I you don't mind me asking, sir, who is that in your lock screen?"
Dev looked at his lock screen before his mind drifted to the day he took the picture.
Tip-toeing the living room, up the stairs, she was about to succeed entering her room without catching his attention when a she heard him roar her name like a pray.
"Bose!"
Getting caughtt red-handed, knowing very well what awaits for her, she gulped as she turned around. Flashing her teeth nervously, Sonakshi asked innocently, "Yes Dev?"
"How many?", Dev asked sternly
Though Sonakshi knew she was fighting a lost battle, being the fighter that she is, she decided to give another try,"What 'how many'?"
He raised his right eyebrow, crossing his arms as if telling her not to test his patience.
Realizing it won't work on this stubborn woman, he sighed, "How many lollies did you have today?"
"Ohh! Thaaattt! Not many...just..just one?", Sonakshi replied with utmost confidence, although the case very different in terms of what was going on inside her. The way her heart was thumping against her chest, as though it was suffocating inside to come out and reveal the truth.
Can you just stop for a moment? I'm trying to handle a situation and don't forget you belong to me and not him!, sonakshi muttered under her breath to her heart.
"Really?", Dev said slightly tilting his head.
"Mhm"
"I see". Dev started walking towards her in predatory steps and before she knew it, her purse was snatched away from her. Peeking in it, he found what he was looking for.
His jaw tightened as he revealed the bundle of lolly sticks that was wrapped in a tissue paper, a habit she had since their childhood. She would always store the sticks after eating icecream and today was no exception.
"Sonakshi, 8 lollies? Really?!", Dev glared at her in disbelief.
"Woh...I...it was-"
"Absolutely no ice cream or lollies for you in the next 1 month"., said dev in finality, his voice held the authority that left no place for any argument.
"1 MONTH? How am I gonna survive?!"
"Your problem."
"You are not playing fair Dev."
"Don't care!"
"I was just-"
"Sonakshi, I said you need to be careful until your exams are over. On top of that, you have Asthma, Icecream should be the last thing you are eating. Can you please listen to me once?", dev said, his voice lacing with concern and fear of having to go through the nightmare when he found her at the storeroom not so long ago.
"But dev 1 month?! Can you at least reduce it to a week?"
"1 month and we are having no discussion over it.", dev declared, his arms crossed and lips thinned in a straight line.
Stomping her foot, she strode to her room. Once out of his sight, dev let out a silent chuckle at her antics. He wondered how this matured woman who managed to balance her education with all the household responsibility could become a child within a matter of seconds. Shaking his head, he entered the room to find her taking out something from her closet.
"What do you need now?", spat sonakshi as she heard his footsteps.
"I left something here."
"Take it and leave!"
Before she could turn around and realie what was going on, Dev had put his arms around her, tilting his head to touch hers, sonakshi remaining in her angry avtar', as dev took a snap with the front camera of his phone.
"What was that?", sonakshi asked dumbfounded.
"Sorry, Needed a picture on my lockscreen to entertain myself. Bye!"
Before sonakshi could say anything, Dev placed a smooching peck on her cheek and left the room, leaving a flabbergasted Sonakshi with her eyes widened, her hands stilled and her breath caught.
Coming out of his lane of thoughts, Dev replied to Adi, "That's Sonakshi!"
And Adi needed no more explanation regarding his boss's sudden uplifted mood, his wide smiles, occasional chuckles and grins and not to mention, the person who kept distracting Dev dixit every 2 minutes since he entered this cabin.
Boss is in love!, Adi grinned

Finishing the last bit of her lunch, Sonakshi excused herself from her friends to use the restroom. And before she could enter the restroom, she was pulled by a hand to a nearside room that was partially dark. She opened her mouth to scream for her but a hand clasped her mouth shut, while the other hand dived down her neck, touching the side of her breast and finally stopping at her waist.
"Bohot pankh nikal agaya hai tere?"
Sonakshi widened her eyes recognizing the voice
Karan!
"Coming out with friends eh? That too, to a such a five star restaurant?", said Karan as his hands went to cup her breast.
Sonakshi caught her breath as she felt numb. She keptshaking her head and made countless attempts to free her hands.
"shhh. Don't make it hard for me or yourself. I am only here to warn you.The more you protest, the harder it is going to be darling"
Sonashi stopped moving. Her eyes were red as tears started streaming down her cheeks.
"Mom has been giving me all the info and the uncertain changes she is seeing in Dev. He seemed to have gotten too fond of you for your own good. Protecting you and all, hmm?", karan said in a terrifyingly low voice, his lips grazing her ear and slender neck.
"Stay.Away.from.Dev, otherwise you will have to face the consequence which I am sure you don't want to even come near of. I hope you know what I mean" , giving a final squeeze to her breast, he strode out of the room.
