The Perfect Revenge

It was Sonakshi's last day at Dixit house and she was happy that all the drama of last 3 months would come to an end now. Dev has requested her many times to join his company but this time she was firm and had already accepted the job offer of Mr. Ahuja. Dev seemed upset about it but she has made up her mind. She wanted to stay away from him. She didn't want to feel weak or vulnerable ever again.

Dev was busy with his new project and was hardly at home these days. She preferred it this way, and even if they met she made sure their talk was only about his mother's health and nothing more.

Last few weeks have been quite uneventful at Dixit house but she has noticed some excitement gripping the entire family, especially about Natasha. She was Dev's business partner's daughter and she has overheard Mrs. Dixit and Mami singing her praises. She had felt a pang of jealousy but she chose to ignore it, she knew Dev has no place in his life for love.

Neha broke the silence "So, it's your last day Sonakshi. I don't how you managed Ma's tantrums and Bhai's mood swings for so long". Sonakshi smiled and asked Neha "I noticed Aunty ji talking about wedding plans. Is someone getting married?". "Oh that, yah Ma wants Bhai to get married to Natasha. Their family also seem to be interested in this match". Sonakshi's heart sank, she was not expecting this news and the mere thought of Dev marrying someone else broke her inside. Neha unaware of Sonakshi's feelings continued "But don't know why bhai is trying to avoid this discussion. Anyways, finally he will do whatever Ma will say, like always". Sonakshi knew that was true what Neha said.

Sonakshi handed over the diet charts for next few weeks and said good bye to everyone. And then she headed straight to Dev's office. She had no clue what she will say when she'll meet him but she was angry and hurt and just wanted to confront him one last time.

As she entered his cabin, she saw Natasha waiting for Dev.

"Oh I actually wanted to speak with Mr.Dixit, Is he around?"

"Dev is on an important call. He will be back shortly". Sonakshi was clearly annoyed by her presence in Dev's cabin. She wanted to speak with him ALONE, one last time. She walked away in anger.

"Dr. Bose, you seem to know Dev and his family very well. Can I ask you something?" Natasha asked her.

Natasha didn't wait for her reply and continued "Dev is such a workaholic; he only talks about his work. Does he ever take some time out to enjoy his life"? Sonakshi smiled and thought she was the only one with whom he has shared his childhood memories, she has seen him laugh, she has seen him enjoying video games and she was the only one who has seen him dance with the kids. These were her treasured memories and she was glad that Mr. Dixit was still on a professional level with Natasha.

"Yeah I agree, he is a workaholic but for family and close friends he always have time. Like the way he took care of me after my accident. He was by my side every day and night and missed several important meetings". Sonakshi said it without any inhibition and noticed a sudden shock on Natasha's face but still continued "You know Natasha, one day he cancelled all his meetings and waited for me for 5 hrs in a restaurant, just to convince me to continue the job." Natasha was totally stunned now and Sonakshi planned the final blow "He comes to meet my family often and once he came at 3am because he thought I need his help". Natasha was speechless. She hasn't witnessed this side of Dev. And Sonakshi left Natasha standing there, confused and shocked.

In the evening, Sonakshi was alone in the house. She was expecting a call from a very angry Mr. Dixit but instead she heard the doorbell. He was furious and his eyes were red with anger. "What did you tell Natasha, Ms. Bose? Her dad had called Ma to discontinue the marriage discussions. They feel I was delaying the marriage discussions because I am interested in you. Ma is so upset with all this. She is not even talking to me anymore".

This time Sonakshi smirked and thoroughly enjoyed his anger. "I just told her how you care about everyone, including your employees like me. I am surprised why would she even think that you are interested in me. I was only trying to help you Mr. Dixit, like you helped me with Kushal Roy". She said it in such a candid and innocent manner. Her revenge was over.

"Kushal Roy! Ms. Bose, you are still angry about that ".

"As far as I remember, you never apologised for it Mr. Dixit. It was not just about me; you had hurt my family too. Anyways don't worry, I will call up your mother and Natasha and clear all misunderstandings. Your anger clearly shows you are interested in this marriage as well, so no reason to delay it now". She has done all this to find out about his feelings about the marriage with Natasha and was sad to see his reaction.

"I am really sorry Ms. Bose. I did all that to stop you from moving to Mumbai. I did It for Ma".

"I know Mr. Dixit, everything you did for me was because I was your Mom's nutritionist". Her voice choked a little but she has accepted the reality now. There was no future for her dreams even when her Mr. Right was standing right in front of her. This could very well be their last interaction and she just wanted to capture this moment forever, his eyes staring into hers.

Her words were hurting him now.

"You know that's not fully true, Sonakshi. I agree in the beginning that was the sole reason but now...now I am not so sure. You are not just an employee for me, Ms. Bose. For a moment today, I thought...I thought that you... (liked me as well)" Last few words remained in his thoughts only.

He needed time to understand his own feelings. But with so many things happening so quickly around them - her accident, his new project, marriage proposal and her moving to a new job, he felt this time, things were going out of his control and he had no clue how to handle this. This has never happened with the successful businessman before.

He has changed a lot in these 3 months. She has changed him. She challenged him and made him think about the consequences of his impulsive actions. She has made him laugh, dance and brought out the child in him. She made him care for her and he has become so protective about her specially with his own family members. She has made him share a part of his childhood which he has never shared with anyone, not even his own family. With her, he was ready to let his guard down.

Both of them were so lost in their own thoughts, they were completely unaware of what the other person was thinking. If only they could read each other's thoughts...
