Restless. The thought that she is feeling agitated for no reason made her all the more uneasy. Come on Sona, you cannot behave so nonsensical like this, she chided herself. But her heart was not listening to her. She paced up and down in her office. She was not able to calm down. Why? She took a deep breath and tried to put a stop to her galloping thoughts. Sona, now, think about it. She is only a business contact, and there are many such women who Dev is dealing with on a daily basis in his business. Why are you getting worked up about the fact they are behind the closed doors of Dev's office? They discuss business and that's it. You know about Dev and his stance with women. She sat down in her chair. All this reasoning was not getting into Sona's head. Why am I behaving like a school kid, so immature?
So this is the state of affairs of Sona from the day the new lady, Dev's business partner's daughter, came into Dev's life. This young lady seems to be training herself to take the reins from her father in their business. Her father generously chose Dev to be her mentor and has given the onus to Dev to bring her upto the standards. Dev, the Mr. Perfect gentleman that he is, took that request gracefully and is working hell bent on bringing Ms. Coy up to speed. Why is she so sweet and doe-eyed with Dev all the time? The thought that the young and sophisticated lady is sitting in front of Dev, with her sweet voice murmuring her concurrence to everything Dev says and her gentle demure that accentuates her feminity, and everything about her left Sona raw nerved. Never has she felt like this before. Whatever happened to her self-respect and composure, that she ended up thinking about these two all the time these days.
She has been feeling like this from the day she met with the infamous accident. Looking back, Sona cannot believe that it has been a couple of months now since that day. After she got better she did go back to work in Dev's house. But somehow, things were never the same. Although Ishwari was kind and quiet with her, there was always a sense of guard in her behavior. She always made sure that there was that thin line that Sona could not cross. But the three months contract did come to an end, in fact very successfully. Ishwari had a great improvement and there was almost no report inked to be worried. Dev was so happy the day when Dr. Sinha said that Ishwari was completely normal and could follow normal diet. So the day of employment in Dev's household did come to an end. In many ways, Sona was looking forward to that. She was getting claustrophobic in the house as Ishwari always kept herself busy and away from Sona as mush as possible. Mamiji had her own work and manipulation to do but then she stayed clear of Sona. Sona knew on whose behest that behavior was. And Dev himself was not seen in the house. Before she came in, he left to work on most of the days. In the evenings, she never saw him. Work kept him so busy that sometimes she made Kichu bhaiya cook the food for him and sent it to his office for lunch and dinner too. After all she was still taking care of the diet plans of the entire family, based on their daily life and chores. A routine that has become integral to her and something that she liked doing with a sense of responsibility and care that she took for granted with this family. Nicky is busy with her exams and Neha with her classes. So the whole day went uneasily quiet in the household. The disquiet was not something that she was used to in the household, so was happy when the final day did arrive.
She bid goodbye to the entire family and all the members in the house gathered to bid her farewell. They all wanted her back whenever she could and wanted. IShwari was very emotional and she gave a beautiful choker in gold and pearl as a parting gift of love to her. That was indeed a tearful day.
Dev offered to drop her that day back home. He thanked her enough for helping his mom. He was searching for words and kept glancing at her while driving. She knew he wanted to say something. After so many days, especially after the way he cared for her in the hospital, that day was the first day they were alone. Suddenly there was silence in the car until they reached her house. Sona did not open her mouth, lest she broke down. She knew she was choking and the reason for that made her feel angry at herself.
She did not offer him to come into her house but he invited himself and walked in right behind her. The entire family was so happy to see him. For them he had become God of sorts after what he did for Sona during the hospitalization phase. Sona excused herself and went in to freshen up. But when she came back, to her horror, her entire family accepted that Sona was going to work at Dev's office. He offered her the in-house nutritionist job in his corporation. She denied that right away, to the dismay of her entire family. But she knew she could not take up that job for many reasons. She could not explain but she refused. Her family, that is always understanding, accepted her decision and all of them conveyed their gratitude and apologies to Dev. After so much coaxing, Dev did retreat defeated. Sona felt the pang to see him walk back with a distressed face but she knew she could not accept the job.
Days went by but Dev did not give up. He persuaded her to take up the job using many ways. He made Dr. Sinha talk to her. He did make some excuses and caught up with her at many public places, claiming that it was coincidence and kept on insisting that she join and how she must not give up a good opportunity in taking her career forward, etc. The final nail was from Ishwari. One day she called her and said that she would be very happy if she joined Dev's office, not only for the benefit of the employees of Dev, but also for the benefit of her son and daughter who are working there too.
So the long story short, here she is working in Dev's office, and, right now fuming, inside her plush cabin.
Breaking from her thought, Sona got up from the chair and decided to occupy herself to avoid this incomprehensible sense of irritation and anxiety. She stomped out of her cabin in an effort to get some fresh air and to get rid of the two humans that are daunting her at the moment. She opened the door swiftly to step into the corridor and bang, She hit someone on the other side. "Ouch!" came the voice that she can never miss even in her grave.
"oh, I'm so sorry, Mr. Dixit," she said acutely apologetic. She swiftly moved close to him to see if he was hurt. He was rubbing his forehead, and looked through his thick eyebrows at her. With controlled voice, "Careful, Ms. Bose," he said. She went near him, moved his hand aside with her soft hand, and checked his forehead. This much liberty she did take on occasions without feeling awkward, especially after their new-born friendship after her accident. She touched the bruise slightly and inspected closely.
I'm sorry, she said again. He was looking at her face when she was at her work. She then caught hold of his hand and turned to take him into her cabin for applying some medicine. She pulled on her feet and realized the beautiful lady was standing quietly a few feet away from them and watching. She did not realize that there was a third person there.
Whatever devil got into her, she grabbed Dev's elbow and clasped both her hands around his elblow and dragged him close to her and with a sweet smile at the lady, "Sorry, could you please excuse us? I need to take care of "Dev" right now. He never cares for himself but I cannot let him be, so please give us a few minutes." She turned around to Dev and said, "Dev, could you please just come in and let me have a look at your bruise now?" Saying that she dragged him into her cabin and closed the door behind them, not caring to know the astonished look on Dev's face or the appalled look of the woman behind the door. From when did the transmission from "Mr. Dixit" to "Dev" happen? Dev or Sona had no clue.--------------------------------- continued here-----
