HI All,
I know the forum has been buzzing owing to the blossoming romance between Dev and Sona and more so due to her accident.I wanted to start a discussion about something that keeps sticking out to me. Mami and her motor mouth is not new however she seems to keep harping on Sona being Bengali. Every now and then you'll here her address Sona as "aye bangalan!"Mami made a comment earlier about bengali girls being "tez" bengali girls marrying later - even yesterday when Mama was ready to leave and Ishwari was trying to smooth things over - Mami goes "bangalan to hai chant" or something like that.I don't know if its Mami or the show or a reflection of how Indians from other states perceive bengalis but it doesn't sit well with me.I'm bengali and I've spent the majority of my life abroad so I'm not really sure what the perception of bengalis are by other communities. We all know the stereotypes that bollywood emphasises - "Eeesh", "fish loving" "football madness" "being a bit bookish" we all know of those - but these more subtle stereotypes - of bengalis being more "forward" which i think should be rephrased as "progressive" for which bengali girls get married "later"Does anyone else feel this way?
