Sandiip quits Sony finally!

The creative head of the channel
resigned just as his ex-boss Ektaa Kapoor launches her show there

After Hours Correspondent

Call it coincidence or just strange timing. Just as Ektaa Kapoor announced her first venture 'Khwaish' (airing on July 16) on Sony TV after two years, the channel's creative head Sandiip Sikcand submitted his resignation yesterday.
Having moved to Sony from being the creative head of Balaji Telefilms in August last year, Sandiip will serve a month's notice. Shows that had been in the pipeline long before he joined were launched with much fanfare in the last nine months. These include 'Kaajal Sabki Aankhon Mein Bassi', 'Bigg Boss', 'Kulvaddhu', 'Jeete Hain Jiske Liye' and 'Virrudh'. Sikcand has often been surrounded by controversies whether it was regarding his conflict with ex-boss Ektaa or with producers Tony and Deeya Singh, Smriti Z Iraani and Anuj Saxena (they produce shows for Sony) or even the latest rumour - that he was sacked by the channel.
Talk is that Sandiip has many offers from upcoming TV channels and films. According to sources, he has left for an official assignment in Delhi and was unavailable for comment.
Sources even suggest that Anshuman Swami, CEO of Applause Entertainment (co-producer of 'Virrudh' on Sony) has also put in his papers on July 11.

Ektaa's 'Khwaish' fulfilled

The TV mogul realises her dreams of producing a
Muslim social drama

After Hours Correspondent

The show 'Khwaish' (Sony) marks the fulfilment of Ektaa Kapoor's long-cherished desire. The soap queen reveals that it has always been her dream to make a Muslim social drama. Handing over the reins of her first international project to creative head, Nivedita Basu, the Balaji Telefilms CEO seemed confident of having a winner on her hands, yet again.
Khwaish will premiere on July 16. With the K-serials like Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii already popular in Pakistan and the Middle East, Basu informs that there has been a growing demand for serials from their stable in these regions for quite some time. "This show is specially made taking into account the lifestyle and customs of the viewers there. We have a special consultant who advises us on this, and we are ensuring that we will not show any content that will be offending or controversial."
On the handling of creative inputs for the show, Kapoor says, "Just like Balaji handles all the creatives for our shows on Star and Zee, the same will be the case with Sony." By saying so, she has clearly distanced herself from any queries about her equation with Sony's creative head Sandiip Sikcand. Clearing the air here, the channel's business head, Albert Almeida says, "Khwaish has been created for another market and doesn't require any inputs from our creative teams, so there is no question of any differences arising."
A family drama, Khwaish is the story of a young girl named Afreen who shoulders her family responsibilities when her elder brother settles separately and her father is forced to retire. With great composure, she copes with these new challenges in her life.
The series has been shot in the UAE. It comprises a cross-border mix of known talent and newcomers.
