My first kiss
Here's what Indian television allows you to watch – murder, rape, blood, and brutality. And what it doesn't – kissing, the most simple expression of human love. Most of our television actors are equally coy when it comes to speaking about their first kiss. But eight bold and beautiful stars (and one smart aleck!) dared to share stories of this rite of passage with Nishi Malhotra
1. SIN-SATIONAL!
Deepshikha: My first kiss was a flop. It was really bad. I was so scared I was shivering. It happened at the instigation of some friends at a party. I must have been in Class 7 or 8. The guy and I were equally scared and equally curious as all adolescents are. But after it happened I thought I had committed a sin. I was hysterical for days. I was so ignorant that I thought I must have become pregnant because of a simple kiss.
2. CHASTE TASTE
Dimple Inamdar: I kissed my first boyfriend when I was 14. I was his first girlfriend too. So it was very innocent and probably doesn't even qualify as a kiss, more like a peck. But he and I had gone out to PDP in Breach Candy where we hung out. He told me he wanted to kiss me so I let him. I was very scared that someone would find out and that my mom would kill me.
3. NOT WITH ARCHANA
Parmeet Sethi: I think it was just outside my school when I was in Class 9 or 10. It was in my friend's car. I didn't know what to do. It was scary as well as exciting. As usual, like all guys, I tried to make it as heavy a smooch as possible and the girl wanted it as chaste as possible, to put a limit on how far I could go. Once it was over, I felt like I had conquered Mount Everest. It was quite a landmark in my life.
4. COURTSIDE CARESS
Chetan Hansraj: It was in school, in the handball court after school hours. She had green eyes, that's all I can tell you about her. It was amazing, electric and everything a kiss should be!
5. CAMP FIRE
Manav Gohil: I was 17 and at an international camp in Sweden. There was a girl named Anka who I was madly in love with. I asked a friend to teach me how to say for young puss (can I kiss you?) in Swedish. But eventually I did not need to use the line at all. She and I were sitting on a bench near the cafeteria at night and she initiated the kiss herself. What was it like? I was shivering but I think I did as good or bad a job as any 17-year-old kissing for the first time would. I remained on a high for a very long time…I even wanted to marry her. I came back to India, we exchanged postcards for a while, and then we lost touch. But I still learn Swedish phrases and anything Swedish is close to my heart.
6. DANDIYA RAAS
Rohit Roy: Oh, it happened in school close to Diwali. Because of Navratri I had been given some extra time off by my parents who are usually very strict. So there I was with this Gujju girl and after some serious dancing till about 2.30 in the morning, we finally stole a kiss. I had the luxury of touching a girl for the first time. How long did it last? Oh, you bet once I got the opportunity it went on for about an hour – not a continuous liplock but you know… But after that she was very embarrassed and so was I so we did not even speak to each other. I ran into her a couple of years ago. She is happily married with kids now.
7. I'VE HAD BETTER
Kitu Gidwani: It was in a nightclub and was very romantic. It happened with a guy I had a huge crush on…it's another matter altogether that I don't even remember his name now. I must have been about 17, we'd gone out in a group. I won't say it was a mind-blowing kiss or anything but there definitely was a thrill to it. He did stop when I wanted him to and didn't push things. Of course I've had many better kisses since then.
8. A WET BET
Mini Mathur: My first kiss was not very memorable. It happened fairly late in my life – I was over the legal limit. I was performing at a musical and lost a bet to someone, so I had to deliver. Yes, it was someone I liked. But as first kisses go it was nowhere on the Richter scale. The earth didn't shake, no bells rang.
9. SMOOCH-POOCH
Rakshanda Khan: My first kiss? Must have been my mother when I was born. And no, I won't say anything more because after being kissed by my mother, I don't want to get kicked by her.
