This is one of my favourites since my childhood. You must try it.

Mirchi ka salan

Ingredients (serves 6)

250 gms large long green chillies
1 stalk curry leaves
2 tbsp oil
tsp turmeric powder
tsp dhania (coriander seed) powder
tsp cumin seeds
2 lemon-sized balls tamarind, soaked in 1 cup water
1 tbsp grated dessicated coconut
2-3 pinches asafoetida
salt to taste

Roast and grind to a powder:
1 tbsp peanuts
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds

Grind to a fine paste:
1 large onion
1 large tomato
1 tsp garlic grated
1 tsp ginger grated
1 tsp chironji

Method
Deseed and remove stalk of chillies. Boil them in plenty of water into which a little salt has been added. cook the chillies till they become a whitish pale in colour. Drain, chop into large sections or keep whole. Heat oil in a large frying pan. Add chillies, fry for a minute. Keep aside. Add cumin seeds, allow to splutter. Add curry leaves to oil, asafoetida, ground paste and coconut.

Stir and cook for three-four minutes. Add ground powder, masala powders, simmer till oil seperates. Add salt and tamarind water, and a cup of water. Add chillies, boil till gravy is thickened and oil floats on top. Garnish with fresh cream. Serve piping hot with sheermal, khuskha or parathas

Kavya-Anjali's racing injury
By: Tushar Joshi
February 28, 2006
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Eijaz Khan and Anita
An event at the Star Paarivar awards nomination special turned into a pain in the neck (literally!) for Kavyanjali's lead actors.

As part of the show, Eijaz Khan (Kavya) and Anita (Anjali) took part in a running competition, where the guy had to pick up the girl and run towards a finishing line.

Vikas Bhalla and Divya Dutta, and Hussain and Juhi Parmar were the other couples competing with them.

An onlooker, who witnessed the mishap, explained, "Eijaz had to pick Anita up, carry her and run. It didn't look easy; all the actors were quite nervous and uneasy with the idea of carrying their heroines and running.

However, when the contest started, Eijaz started running with Anita, but suddenly stumbled, and both fell. It looked like they were in pain."

Sweat and blood

About the accident, Anita says, "I sprained my neck badly. It was quite difficult shooting with it in the first few days, but now I am fit and fine."

However, things are difficult for co-star Eijaz, who is still recuperating from his leg injury on his left knee.

"I ignored the wound initially, which is why it has worsened," he said. "I am regularly going to the hospital and getting treated as there is some pus and the wound is spreading. I don't think it's anything to worry about, but I wish I had paid more attention to it before."

Tough for heroes

When asked about the competition, Eijaz said, "It was good fun, but the race wasn't easy. It's quite difficult to run with someone in your arms, especially when you can't see the ground."

Eijaz will soon be seen as the lead actor in Balaji's new show, Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, on Star One.

Pagdi sambhal!

Chaitanya Chaudhary with his designers Gulshan and Arun Hirani
Telly actor Chaitanya Chaudhary (Akshat of Kahiin To Hoga) looks every inch the dulha in his designer wares done by Arun and Gulshan Hirani of the A&G Design Studio, Bandra. But this dressing-up was for his sister's wedding held over the weekend.

Apparently, Chaitanya wanted to go full-on at the shaadi, including a pagdi — and that's what he got from the designers who have been dressing him up from his Gladrags model days to his films — Love At Times Square amd Kyun.

Now we wonder what Chaitanya will want for his own
wedding ceremony?

Women with a drive!

They are Indian television's leading ladies, they are the most watched women and wanted women, as they take over our televison sets any part of the day to make it prime time.

Nandini Singh

She is one of the reigning Dopahar women, Kesar, and she says, "It is really sad to know that women are still not treated with respect and dignity in certain sections of our society. It's only the women in urban India who are doing well. Issues like female infanticide needs to be tackled and we as educated people should do something in action to stop this, all-together. There is no point just sympathizing. And we require more than a day to eradicate this problem. I feel that when issues like these are resolved only then should Women's Day be celebrated.

Nandini's idol woman is none other than Indira Gandhi, "A woman with a strong personality, the former late Prime Minister of the nation, held her post with pride and dignity apart from being a mother. A remarkable woman who took pride in whatever task she did."

Natasha

Anjali from Kavyanjali) says, "I believe and think that women rock! Everyday should be celebrated as Women's Day. Today's women are not dominated by men. It's no longer a man's world. Indian women are for a fact changing. You have women who are 30+ who are still not married, doing well in their jobs and are financially independent. They are even looking after their entire family.

Anita's idol is her mom who she says is very open-minded and liberal in her thinking, who supports me in my decisions.

Weight and watch

Fat is not fine... at least that's what television stars seem to think. Reena Thapar Kapoor spoke to six actresses who are in the process of shedding those pounds

Mona Singh
I have a typical North Indian built. But I know where I'm heavy and make it a point to conceal those parts with dark colours and loose clothes. I've put on a lot of weight during Jassi… But since I wasn't required to show off my curves, I took it easy and ended up putting on 12 kgs! But now, Jassi... is nearing completion and I've to start work on my debut film. So I've no choice but to lose weight. I haven't started working out, but I am on a strict diet of boiled or raw vegetables and whole fruits. My nutrionist tells me that I've lost three inches and that's just the beginning.

Poonam Narula
I had put on 25 kgs after I delivered. The post-pregnancy weight refused to go and I looked like a huge balloon. Thankfully during Nach Baliye I managed to lose eight kgs. But that's where it stopped. I also have a sweet tooth. But, now I've decided that I want look different and gear up for a new innings. There are ten more kgs that I need to chuck out of my body. I've already started working out.

Sudha Chandran
I was never bothered about my weight. I became conscious of it after the growing popularity of Ramola Sickand (in Kahin Kisi Roz). Since I was wearing noodle-strap blouses and glamorous saris, I had no option but to shed the fat that I had piled on for years. To look trim, I lived on boiled veggies and fruits for months and lost about 10 kgs.

Anita Hassanandani
I looked more than my age in my first television show Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli. Back then I didn't know that I would have a career in films and television. When Ekta offered me a Hindi film (Kuch To Hai), I decided to knock off those extra pounds. Earlier I would eat anything. But now I am more careful. I had to work out like a maniac to get back into shape. After all, I was getting ready for my big break! After losing six-odd kgs, I continue to be paranoid about my weight.

Delnaz Paul
I have become synonymous with the 'roly poly' tag. All my life I've been comfortable with my weight as I knew that I could carry it off well. But I've now made up my mind to lose some of it. Through rigorous dance rehearsals I did lose some weight during Nach Baliye. I've started brisk walking and I also do half an hour of yoga every day. Above all, I've enrolled myself in Shiamak Davar's Institute for the Performing Arts. Hopefully that should help me look slim and trim some day.

Riva Bubber
I was never obese but was definitely broad around my hips. In Neena Gupta's Kyun Hota Hai Pyar, people said that I looked good and acted well but I was criticised for being overweight. After I got Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, I started watching my weight by eating right and working out as often as I could. In a few months, from 60 kgs I came down to 53 kgs. I thought it was a huge achievement.

COURTESY---KAASH (Piya Di) 😃

By IndiaFM News Bureau, March 9, 2006 - 03:27 IST
Ekta Kapoor has many reasons to smile. On 7th March, she won her case filed against the producer of Sun Zarra, Salim Akhtar. Kapoor had alleged that the film Sun Zarra was a remake of the Tamil hit Tullamta Mannum Tullam, whose rights were purchased by Balaji Telefilms. Kapoor was to remake the film in Hindi titled Kya Love Story Hai, directed by Satish Kaushik.

Balaji Telefilms tried to prevent the film from releasing. However, Akhtar went ahead and released it. Salim Akhtar refused to showcase the film to Balaji, before its release. Hence, the representatives at Balaji were able to see the film only after its release. Thereafter, it was confirmed that Sun Zarra was indeed a remake of the Tamil film.

When Akhtar met Jeetendra Kapoor over this matter, he asked him to change his film, if he thought it was similar, since Balaji had not yet started the film. However, they didn't want any changes since they had lawfully bought the rights of the Tamil original. Ekta's belief in the legal system has strengthened since this ruling was passed. Kya Love Story Hai will now have a whole new screenplay. It will star Tusshar Kapoor and Ayesha Takia, in lead roles.

Khan Vs Khan

Ekta Kapoor's new blue-eyed boy Iqbal Khan pitted against Ejiaz Khan in Kavyanjali

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Iqbal Khan of Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai fame is set to begin his new innings in Ekta Kapoor's favourite show Kavyanjali. Come April and Khan will play the role of Shaurya in the show. With Ejiaz Khan being busy with Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, Iqbal Khan, a la Shaurya, will now share the mantle of the hero in Kavyanjali.

"Iqbal has a terrific screen presence. When I thought of Shaurya's character in Kavyanjali, I knew that was just apt for him," says Kapoor. Apparently, the entire cast and the crew of Kavyanjali (read female actors) are eagerly awaiting for Khan's royal entry in the show. Shaurya will have a pivotal part to play in the show that already has big names like Eijaz Khan, Anita Hassanandani, Hiten Tejwani and Nandini Singh...

With so many actors, how much scope will Khan have to prove his mettle? "Shaurya's character, when it unfolds on screen, will explain all. Iqbal is not doing a cameo in the show. His is a full-fledged role," informs Kapoor. Apparently, Shaurya will enter Kavya and Anjali's life, when he comes to the former's rescue.

"I came to Mumbai to become an actor. I've gone through days, and months, without work and money," says Iqbal Khan. "I will now be doing two shows and that itself puts a lot of responsibility on me. This doesn't mean that I'm complaining. I'm genuinely excited and looking forward to working in Kavyanjali."

Does he feel threatened about the other Khan's (Ejiaz) presence in the show? "TV isn't like films where an actor can sit at the editing table to chop his co-actor's role. Ejiaz, I believe, is a cool dude and I'm sure working with him should be comfortable," he smiles.

What about his working hours? Has he worked out the details with Ekta Kapoor? "I'll be required to shoot eight hours for each show, Kavyanjali and Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai. It isn't humanly possible to shoot more than that," he says.

Khan reveals that he intends to get married by the end of this year. "I want to build up a stable bank balance first," he says. "My top priority is buying a house. Now with Kavyanjali in my kitty, hopefully that dream will come true too."
