Soap queen Ekta Kapoor has got viewers glued to their sets with her family dramas. But does she herself watch them at all? BT finds out

How much TV do you watch?
About three hours a day. I watch two hours of TV before I sleep (Ekta works through the night and catches up on her sleep in the day). Also around half an hour early in the morning.
Do you watch your own shows or other Hindi serials?
Yes. I watch some of my shows. From outside I watch Rabba Ishq Na Hoye.
Which are your favourites from among your shows?
I like Kavyanjali and Kahiin To Hoga.
And international TV shows?
I like Orange County. It's a soap opera...the story of an orphan boy who gets adopted by a family and steps into a the high society world. It's like a Balaji show... lots of twists and turns. I also like
Desperate Housewives.
Your favourite TV actor here and internationally?
Irfan Khan here. And Gale Harold who plays Brian in Queer As Folk.
Favourite actresses?
Smriti Iraani and Shefali Chhaya. I also like Terry Hatcher from
Desperate Housewives.
Favourite TV character?
Sujal (Kahiin To Hoga). His idiosyncrasies and quirks are lovable and detestable. He doesn't believe in social norms. He's his own person. I also like the character Rishi from the same show. .
What about TV serials dragging endlessly?
The characters in a show become lovable after sometime. So you have to wait to give the next turn. After a huge drama is created in a show there comes a lull because you can not have twists all the time.
How do you react to being called the soap queen?
I don't go by terms. I feel you are given a term for the phase that's on in your life. When another phase comes there's another term given. So I'm neutral. I don't react to any of the terms.
