Shveta won't part with her money!
By: Vickey Lalwani
October 23, 2006

Shveta Salve with Longinus Fernandes
Shveta Salve has a 50-50 chance of taking home the Rs 50 lakh prize money in the Sony's dance show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

The final is on Friday, but will she be kind enough to part with a lakh or two for her choreographer Longi, who has played a key role in bringing her to the final?

In the initial stage of the contest, contestants were unaware that the winner would get such a huge amount of money. But once it became known, they mutually decided that the winner should give Rs 2 lakh from the prize to his/her choreographer.

Sharing the loot

So, the contestants had a meeting amongst themselves. Everyone, except Salve, was willing to endorse the noble gesture.

A source says, "All contestants felt they were well off in life compared to the choreographers. So it would be only fair to share a small amount from their prize with their choreographer. But Shveta resisted. She was not happy to learn that she would have to forfeit Rs 2 lakh."

The usually loud-mouthed Akashh Deep Saigal refused to confirm. He said, "Ab main kya bolu? Main jo bhi bolta hoon, log usko alag level pe le jaate hain. So I am going to be diplomatic and decline to comment."

Rati Agnihotri claimed that she was unaware of such a meeting. Ajay Jadeja brushed it off. But the frank and fearless Pooja Bedi, who has always called spade a spade, confirmed, "Yes, we all met and said that whoever wins, will give Rs 2 lakh to our choreographer. We all sat down together before the first episode began.

In fact, Mahesh (Manjrekar) and Ajay called all of us and we all agreed. In a minute, we all said yes. But Shveta had million questions to ask: 'What? How? What about the tax-deduction?' In the end, she never committed to it."

It's personal

We called Shveta to find out why she had issues with giving Rs 2 lakh to Longi. She said, "I don't want to comment on this. I discussed this
with Mona (Singh) and she too hasn't heard about this.

In the past three months, Longi and I have worked very hard. If I win, I would like to give something to him, but I don't want to disclose it. It's a very personal thing. For me, Longi means more than anybody right now."

Mona or Shveta: The Jhalak verdict

Pooja Bedi: The format of the show is that non-dancers become dancers. So it's very unfair to have a professional dancer winning the contest. Anybody can make out that Shveta is a seasoned dancer.

On the merit of dancing abilities, Shveta should win. But on moral and ethical grounds, it should be Mona. Plus, Mona is a far better human being. Look at her growth curve from the first episode. It's tremendous. I want Mona to win.

Rati Agnihotri: I connected with Mona very well. We used to be there for rehearsals around the same time. She is a very warm girl. I did connect with Shveta too, but less than I did with Mona. An extra yard for Mona. Shveta is a born dancer anyway.

Mahesh Manjrekar: I really can't differentiate. I was there for the longest period of time, compared to the other contestants, so I share an equal friendship with both of them.

Akashh Deep Saigal: I will vote for both Mona and Shveta.

Ajay Jadeja: If I were to cast one vote, I would cast it for Mona. Shveta is a skilled dancer.
So let's support the underdog.

Sanjeev Kapoor is abroad and hence couldn't be contacted.

Jassi wins Jhalak... title

May the best dancer win? Well, Mona Singh's popularity seems to have had the edge over Shveta Salve's talent

Subhash K Jha

It's final. The first winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is Mona 'Jassi' Singh. This puts an and to the suspenseful contest between the two finalists Mona Singh and Shveta Salve and their respective choreographers, Toby and Longi.

While Mona was over the moon minutes after the SMS votes from audiences declared her winner, Shveta, considered a far more superior dancer by most and declared the best dancer since Madhuri Dixit by judge Sanjay Leela Bhansali, lost by a narrow margin.

Hours before the verdict Shveta had said, "I've done my best. Even if Mona wins I'd be equally happy. I'm having a party for family and friends regardless of whether I finally win or not. I've enjoyed every second of this contest, although I must admit some comments by fellow-contestants did affect me personally and also affected my chances adversely."

Mona on the other hand is ecstatic about the open support provided to her by the contestants. "I'm referring especially to Pooja Bedi who went out of her way to express her support for me. It was very, very sweet of her. Considering I was no dancer to begin with, I think this whole experience has changed my life . Yeah, I'm over the moon," said Mona.

• Considering I was no dancer to begin with, I think this whole experience has changed my life. Yeah, I'm over the moon — Mona Singh

Cheer up, girl!

Producer Manish Goswami throws a party for Shveta Salve to console her after her defeat in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa

Sapana Patil Poojary

Moving on: Shveta Salve

Producer Manish Goswami, whose serials Aisa Des Hai Mera and Kituu Sabb Jaanti Hai are currently on air, threw a party for actress Shveta Salve last night. It was Goswami's way of cheering up Shveta, who lost the competition to Mona Singh in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The party, hosted at a suburban joint, was attended by their close friends in the industry.

An overwhelmed Shveta said, "It was indeed a nice gesture on Manishji's part to throw a party for me. Actually, ever since Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa started, I had been saying that irrespective of the result, I would throw a party for my friends and colleagues. But Manishji said that the party was on him."

When Shveta lost the competition, Goswami was among the first few to call her and speak to her. "He was very supportive of me. He tried to cheer me up and said some encouraging words. I have worked in three of his serials. He also knows my boyfriend Rodney (Barnes), and is like a family member to us. I have always depended on Manishji for suggestions at any point of time. Manishji plays the big daddy in my life," Shveta added. When contacted, Goswami said that this party was his way of showing his affection towards her. He added, "It was to acknowledge and appreciate her hard work."

You need to follow rules, Amit

Amit Varma tried to overtake a car from the left, ended up ramming into a truck

Repent at leisure: Amit Varma checks out the dent in his car

Sapana Patil Poojary

Amit Varma aka Rohan of Kituu Sabb Jaantii Haii met with an accident on Friday night. Fortunately he escaped unscathed. Amit was on his way to his friend's place at Andheri when his car, a blue Hyundai Accent was hit by a passing truck.

Amit narrates the incident, "While driving, there was a car, with an 'L' board, in my way, cruising along slowly. I wanted to overtake it. But there was no way to overtake it from the right and as I was in a hurry, I had no other option but to overtake from the left. Just then, I saw a truck on the left. Its tail lights were off so I did not spot it earlier. Unfortunately, it was too late to steer my vehicle away, so I ended up ramming into the truck. The left side of my car was damaged. I know it was my mistake and thankfully, I got away without a bruise."

Incidentally, Amit had an accident in the same car, at around the same time last year. Amit adds, "It is not that I don't drive carefully, but this time it was my fault. My parents are really furious with me for being so careless. I am very possessive about my car as I have bought it with my hard earned money. Since the car will now be examined by insurance agents, I am having a tough time travelling to work."

Looks like it's pouring soaps! Production house Twenty Twenty is busy readying it's next mega project tentatively titled Rahe Na Rahe. The family drama which was earlier named as Dus Bahane Karke le gaye Dil is expected to hit the television tube in early October. According to sources, the show might replace Aisa Des hai Mera on Sony TV.

Sources reveal that Rahe Na Rahe is a family drama about three brothers but with a modern outlook. Sachin Verma, Kushal Punjabi and Apoorva Agnihotri are the three brothers. The other cast includes Surveen Chawla, Kavita Kaushik, Salil Acharya (B4U Vj) and Nimai Bali (CID Special Squad), Veteran actor Rati Agnihotri has been approached to be a part of this mega serial. This will be her first venture into the world of television.

The story begins with Rati Agnihotri not being able to conceive inspite of being married for a long time, so she persuades her husband to get married once again. Of the three brothers Apoorva will play the role of the youngest and the biological child of Rati. Surveen Chawla plays the love interest of Apoorva and is believed to be essaying a very vivacious and a bubbly character but will meet with sudden death as she is shown suffering from cancer.

Kavita Kaushik plays Kushal Punjabi's wife. She is too excited of being part of such a mega soap. " I am yet to begin with the shooting, so I cannot say much about the show. The only thing that I can divulge is that it's a typical relationship based serial with all the melodrama involved," says a visibly excited Kavita. Nimai Bali will render the evil angle, he creates problem in the happy life of these three brothers.

While Salil Acharya did not reveal anything. He says, " It's a great concept which has not been experimented as such on television. My character has shades of grey that is the primary reason that I opted to play the role. I not only found the script absolutely fabulous but also the manner of work done by the production house impressed me greatly."

Howzzat!

A cricket fan, Salil Acharya of Kituu Sab Jaantii Hai, engages his co-stars in the game whenever they get free time

Back to Section Stories

Sapana Patil Poojary

Keeping the strike: Salil Acharya playing cricket on the sets of Kituu...

Life on the sets of Kituu Sab Jaantii Hai has surely changed for the better. The occasional remark of 'not doing much' has transformed into 'who's scored the highest for the day?' That's because these days everyone on the sets of Kituu…, including the crew, play cricket whenever they get some free time on the sets. And their leader is none other than Salil Acharya aka Indranil, who has been the key factor in getting everyone hooked on to the game.

Amit Verma aka Rohan in the show, says, "Even I am very passionate about cricket and it is not that we didn't play cricket before, but we did so indoors. After Salil joined and saw us playing, he was overjoyed. He urged us to go outdoors and play. Salis is an ardent cricket fan and is always looking around for someone to play cricket with him."

Salil says, "I am actually obsessed with the game. I wanted to be a cricketer, but that didn't happen and I became an actor. Be it gully cricket, women's cricket or even club cricket, I enjoy watching them all. So whenever we have free time on the sets, I can't control myself from playing cricket."

Salil further adds, "Initially, we started off playing the game to practice for the scheduled match between the cast of Kituu… and Aisa Des Hai Mera. Unfortunately, the match got cancelled. However, it became a habit for us. And I must say, most of the guys here are very good players. We have even formed a team of 11 players with three extras. Even our director Rajesh Ranasinghe, sound engineer and even Ami's spot-boy play with us these days."

As for Ami Trivedi aka Kituu, who doesn't know how to play cricket, she is happy being the umpire.

My Character & i
By: Santosh Harhare
November 21, 2006

Amit Varma
Rohan is sometimes haughty, sometimes kind.

That is Rohan's uniqueness. He comes from an affluent family and runs a news channel called MMM.

At times, he can be so arrogant and rude. At other times, he is so kind, and that's because he is basically a kind-hearted man with a short temper.
Will you finally marry Kituu despite all the odds?
At the moment it looks like that, as the track has both families beginning the preparations.

Has Rohan's character seeped into your life?
After playing Rohan for a year now, I have realised that there are bits of Rohan's character in me now.

I was never short-tempered but suddenly I seem to have acquired Rohan's temper!

Does Rohan Kapoor exist in real life?
Yes, there are so many of my friends who are exactly like Rohan. They have the same qualities and characteristics. Rohan is a very believable character.
