'Kitani will take me to the big league'

Akshita Kapoor, popularly known as Tanu of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, is hoping that her new show Kitani Mohabbat Hai will help take her into the big league.

"I think this character will give me a big break. It will also help me to break my image. The character of Antara is a very powerful character after the lead actress, people can actually see that and I am sure this role will give me a break," says the actress.
"I am playing Antara who is a college going girl. She is very outspoken girl and is very different from the rest of her sisters. Antara aspires to dream big and believes in fulfilling her dreams. She is very ambitious," adds Kapoor.

Akshita who was approached for this role two months back, says they started shooting in December for the role. "Balaji gave me my first break as Tanu in Kahaani. I think that it is a very good place for new people to learn," says Akshita, "Balaji is a wonderful place to work with an excellent team. It is more a family and hence when I was approached for this role, I just couldn't refuse."

Akshita says that she is happy with the role because it closely resembles her in real life.

"Antara is very close to Akshita. Both of them are very out spoken and neither my character nor I let anyone take them for granted. But they always speak on the right things. The only difference is Antara is a bit more understanding and smart," she adds.

Akshita Kapoor debuted on the small screen in Shaka Laka Boom Boom. Soon after that she was seen portraying the role of Tanu in Kahaani and became very popular. After this she was seen in Kya Dil Mein Hai and is currently seen as Krishna Walia in Kasamh Se.

Feeling Positive: Satyajeet Sharma

Satyajeet Sharma who plays Vasant in Balika Vadhu is happy about the gradual change in his character in the show. The actor says he is happy to have an opportunity that will allow him to show to different shades.

"Vasant was never negative. But now he has come to a place where he is showing concern for his wife and other people around him. It is like an added attraction to the character. Like earlier people used to get angry with me in the show but now this new track is giving drive to the character," states Satyajeet.
"There is this continuous mystery involved around the character as what is his next step going to be… And as an actor I am also excited with it. I go scene by scene and never bother about the track ahead. But let me tell you something that it is fun to show different shades…sometimes even in one scene I have to switch on from one shade to the other and it is challenging too," he adds.

Satyajeet who has been getting compliments for his current image says, "I do get calls from my friends and even from people whom I meet generally and all of them end up asking me one question that is when are you turning positive so it is naturally arousing everyone's interest."

In addition to Balika Vadhu, Satyajeet is also seen as D.K. Punj in Kitani Mohobbhat Hai.

Facebook find
Karan Kundra

Trust Ekta Kapoor to do things differently. And she's one savvy woman too. For her new serial Kitani Mohabbat Hai on NDTV Imagine, she found the lead cast out of Facebook, the popular social networking site.

After two of her most successful shows going off air, Ekta is bent on making the soon-to-be-launched Kitani Mohabbat Hai a hit. So she is getting involved in every aspect of the show, be it the storyline, scripting or casting. On the lookout for new talents, she has finally zeroed in on the boy to play the lead protagonist.

Karan Kundra is an absolute fresher, but a smart one. He had sent a "friend request" to Ekta on Facebook. And to his great surprise Ekta accepted his request. Karan was thrilled to bits when he received an email from Balaji Telefilms asking him to audition for the new show right away. Since he is from Jalandhar and couldn't make it to the audition immediately he shot a video of himself on his mobile phone and sent it as an MMS to the Balaji Team.

Impressed by it, Ekta made sure that the next thing Karan did was catch a flight to Mumbai for the look test. Karan Kundra is slated to start shooting for the show with Balaji Telefilms in the next few days.

From business to acting, an Ekta Kapoor find

Ranjib Mazumder
Monday, January 19, 2009 23:59 IST

Mumbai: We all know that most of Ekta Kapoor's female leads are very young. But now even the male leads are getting younger. Karan Kundra, the latest to join the Balaji Telefilms' bandwagon is just

DNA
Telly dhamaal: Karan Kundra.

23 years old. Karan, who is from Jalandhar, plays the male lead in Kitani Mohabbat Hai on NDTV Imagine.

The story of Karan getting the role is quite interesting. He says, "I saw Ekta ma'am's profile on a social networking site and sent her a friend request. To my surprise, she accepted it. A few days later I got a call from Balaji and I was selected for Kitani Mohabbat Hai. It was like a dream for me."

Karan is an entrepreneur and runs a call centre in Jalandhar. When asked now that he would get busy shooting for the show, who would manage his business, he says, "I can manage it over the phone. The world has advanced so fast that I don't need to be physically present in Jalandhar to manage it."

Karan has also participated in the Mr India contest. "I was one of the finalists and had won the title of Mr Style Statement. I have done a few modelling assignments in Delhi. I guess acting was the next step after modeling," he says.

With two of her most interesting shows having gone off air, Ekta Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned in flagging off her new show, Kitaani Mohabbat

What is interesting is the way Ekta discovered Karan Kundra, the new face, who plays the lead in her show.
Unlike thousands of aspirants this Delhi boy did not leave his portfolio in Ekta's office. Instead, he sent her a friend request on her social networking site.

Karan was surprised when she accepted his request. But the surprise turned out to be bigger when he received an email from Balaji Telefilms asking him to come to Mumbai for an audition.

Ekta confirmed the story, "It's interesting and also strange the way I found Karan. He sent me a video clipping on my social networking site, which I liked and approved."

Karan says, "Even before I could digest the joy that she had added me on her list, Balaji Telefilms asked me to come to Mumbai for an audition."

Commode plays cupid

Ektaji is back on telly, but without any band ya baja. Just as well I think, because not only has she come back with the same bakwaas, this time she has actually arrived with some stolen story ideas. For her Bandini, Ektaji has simply copy-pasted the old-dulha-baby-bahu idea from Balika Badhu and added Mihir to it ' with a new name, a dhoti and a pointy-pointy moonch. So Bandini is all about a poor, young girl Santok marrying grumpy old diamond merchant Dharampratap Mahiyavanshi (DM), followed by lots of tension, tears and punar-janam. In the episode I watched, many people in fancy dresses had come for Santok and DM's shaadi. While girls in ghagra-cholis and men in dhoti-kurtas were eagerly waiting to eat and dance, at DM's house there was loud-loud talk of bad sitare and good sitare. Suddenly, DM muttered something about age and ego and nakshatra and the wedding was called off.

I toh got fully bored and moved to Ektaji's next Kitani Mohabbat Hai ' this is a story of love, paisa and ladies' toilets. Arjun Punj is a business tycoon with lips that look like fresh-fresh bread-pakoras. He's always shouting, never shaving and very angry that this one girl, Arohi, works in his office. Anyway, Arohi comes to Arjun's office, all wet-wet. When I say wet, I mean fully, totally, drip... drip... type of wet. She walks into his office, dripping all over his carpet. He gets angry and quickly takes out the AC remote and puts thandi-thandi hawa on full blast. Arohi starts shivering. But because she is Ektaji's heroine, she immediately begins to stare at the AC ' kya pata, Balaji may suddenly grant her supernatural powers to vaporise all air conditioners. Instead, because of the AC's thandi-thandi hawa she feels very joor-se su-su and gets up to go to the ladies'. But she lands up in a men's toilet where many men in suits are in the middle of... you know..., zips down and all. Arohi ko dekh kar they all feel shame-shame, looking very dazed and cross. Anyway, Arohi does her thing and goes back to Arjun's office. The AC's still on full blast, so she again feels su-su and Arohi-Arjun ki su-su ki kahaani keeps moving in and out of rooms, with and without commodes... Bechari Ektaji seems to have run out of story ideas and has got a toilet pot to play cupid which brings her lovers together.

Meanwhile, suspicious couch-aloo Dr Sridevi G. writes from Secunderabad, "I have been wondering why no one has commented on reality shows and their voting system? Why do these shows have judges when all the decisions are taken through SMSes? Producers are hand in glove with mobile network providers and it's all a ploy to generate revenue. Voting and mounting mobile bills can elevate your blood pressure, so stick to saas-bahu serials!"

Poster's note: These are not my opinions, just posted an article from Deccan Chronicle. But I did find it pretty funny - Ekta fans might get offended with the article...

As for Bandini, I heard that it was actually based on a book in Gujarathi. The thing is it is called Retpankhi, but she named it Bandini, may be the 'B' success with Bidaii and Balika Vadhu may have inspired the naming? Typically she goes for the 'K' names.

The concept of Bandini may been taken from the book, but the theme has been dealt in Balika Vadhu already...the middle aged man in fifties getting married to a 18 year old. In BV, the mother-in-law is the problem and we may get to see a slight softening of Gehna toward her husband in the future. In Bandini, Ekta will go full fledged, head over heels kind of love (Pure conjecture on my part) between the teenager and the 56 year old man...

Yes, we all know that KMH is copied from several shows, movies etc. But I like the actress and the good looking cast. I am completely aware that this will be one of those, no brain, glamor filled love story where boy meets girl, boy hates girl, girl changes boy, boy loves girl, girl is majboori filled and gets married to some one else, boy suffers, girl suffers, boy and girl meet for a short time, boy and girl get separated again.
On the other hand, Bandini is where she is trying totally hard to make it look different...hope she does, if she really wants this she should make it so that the old man in the story realizes that she deserves a younger guy and gets her married off to the boy who loves her - now that would not be cut and paste, that would be 'Really Different'
