Karan knows his father gets highly emotional and upset seeing his baby wired up and that is the only time his father the strong and practical PRS who never cries even in terrible situations also has tears in eyes. His mother she just cannot see her baby or anyone wired up like that and will not eat for days when her baby is in hospital. So Karan takes charge like he has done from childhood and ensures he stays in hospital 24 hours and takes care of his chutki playing 3 roles at a time a protective and strong father, a caring and reassuring mother and a concerned but cheering brother apart from consoling his parents and giving them confidence that chutki will be fine they need not worry. Chutki in hospital was very regular phenomenon first 6 months of her life she was in ICU, she came home only at 8 months baby. Doctor always gave deadlines or dates to family not discharge dates her death dates. When she was born they said she may not survive 1 month then 2 months then 3 months finally after 8 months they allowed her to be taken to house.
Now and then she landed in hospital and on other days also had low immune and very unwell. So till 5 years of age she was in hospital every other month for 10 days and again the doctor deadlines of her not survivings were contant. Everytime they would say this was her last night or last day but she would bounce back miraculously and finally after 5 years of age her health stabilized. And that miracle was because of her family because they would never agree to give up though the doctors would give up. Karan's care, her mothers prayers and fasts and her father's love and goodwill would always bring her back from brink of death. She had many complications but the major ones were her liver and asthama complications that took a toll on her health.
Initially every day every week was a struggle for her family to make her survive agianst all odds. Her parents made so many mannats to save her chief among them they gave up food on Saturdays as that was the day first time doctors said she may not survive. So PRS and Yashodhara made manaat with GOD that if Gunjan survives they will not eat food on Saturdays. She now would fall ill less frequently and slowly was strong enough to play and do all things kids of her age do. For last 2-3 years she fell ill gravely only 2-3 times a years which required ICU stay that too number of days recovering in ICU had reduced. Till 5 years she would take 10 days in ICU to recuperate and become fine, now at 9 years old she recovered faster in 3-4 days from ICU.Then her family would take her home and nurse her back to health. Her father brought all monitoring equipments for Gunjan and prepared a seperate room both in US house as well as in their palace in India so that his baby need not be in hospital after discharge from ICU for long and can be monitored in home only.
Karan also had good knowledge of medicine and procedures he had done one year full time course in medicine-critical care and he would monitor her, give her injections etc all the small things he would take care at home only. Even without the course Karan liked medicine field very much and if he was not PRS son he would definetly become a doctor or done research in medicine. All his free time he only read of medicine related topics only. Gunjan just hated hospital atmosphere and preferred getting injections from her Karan bhaiya and being monitored by him then the hospital. She always felt that when her Karan bhaiya gave her injections she never felt any pain but when doctors or nurse gave she felt pain because for them she was just another patient. Giving her injection was just a task for doctors and nurses but for Karan bhaiya she was his chutki and even a small pain or ahhh from her would make him go into tizzy. Her Karan bhaiya would be very careful and take many minutes to give her the injection trying to see how he can give her injection without hurting her much or without her getting any pain.
