Well seeing the pre-cap and Arjun's expression it felt as he was forced to make the phone call... If you guys carefully notice, Arjun was with his friends when he made the phone call... So I think his annoying and irritating friends might have brought the topic of Gauri up and also her feelings towards Arjun and Arjun felt bad, after all has does have a soft side to him and I guess he just wanted to clear up all the misunderstandings with her so that she can start a fresh life and forget him. I don't think he is calling her there because he loves her because if he did it would have been visible from the meets and interactions. There was no sign of love from his end.
