It's altogether a different thing Heer gave very positive reponse. That was POST his action of "saving" her. When Prem "stepped in" he did not know what would be Heer's reaction!

i believe i have the definitive response here. the one missing piece from all of indian pari's analysis is this: in the chess game of who-loves-whom-most between prem and heer, remember that it was heer who made the first move, not prem!

i'd forgotten to include this in my original response. but that is the truth of it.

forget the feeling, the intagible pulls that these two individuals had been getting in and out of. what was the very first tangible action of putting everything on the line for their love? heer's offer of the queen on her chess board: the act of giving herself in to the police to save prem juneja from total ruin.

it's an accolade to the quality of indian pari's writing that i forgot to put this missing piece in my original response: the original piece totally missed out this first nove in the prem-heer love chess game.

heer, who was only an employee at prem's hotel. who lived in the outhouse with her sister. who had nothing to offer prem juneja. who, in her mind, had been spurned by prem juneja (going against the promise to her father, who broke her father's heart). who, for all practical purposes to prem's mind, had no links whatsoever to him, or his family. who he knows nothing about except those intangible feelings, those looks passed between eyes, like two ships passing in the night, never to meet or to be together. heer offered herself as sacrifice.

she takes on the entire burden of the prostitution scandal as her responsibility. and the perfect prem juneja who is always in control, loses it. first he refuses to accept her culpability. and then when he is presented with what looks like irrefutable evidence, freaks out in public, accusing heer bitterly of never having accepted her of such action.

he believes she is guilty of the crime for a while. and punishes himself. he does things that he considers a vice -- he drinks himself silly. was prem preparing himself for a life of sin at the moment? i wouldn't be surprised if he was.

it's only when his head clears and his mind cools, that he thinks again about what he had heard, and what he knows from before, about heer. and nothing adds up. so he digs further into his mind, and comes up with sure fire knowledge that she is not guilty. that she has done this deliberately to save his skin from jail, his wealth from being taken away, his hotel from disrepute.

and that's when he also knows that she loves him, beyond anything that he has imagined possible. because he knows that she loves him beyond herself. because she is willing to sacrifice what little remains of her life -- her sister, her self -- for him.

(remember when heer comes home, meher is bitter about what she has done: did you give a single thought for what would happen to me? and much later, when she is forcing heer to face the fact that she loves prem beyond everything, meher says: there is one single person who falls before everything for you and that is prem. meher had recognised heer's love for prem at the same time that prem learnt of it too.)

y'know? i don't say this lightly, but i think every person loves themselves the most -- it can't be otherwise. the only people that i know who can love beyond themselves are probably mothers. and even there, not all can or do love as selflessly. in any case, i think prem was sure that heer is not his mother. 😆

so for me, the most beautiful statement of love ever made on tv, was not prem's confession. it was when prem comes to visit heer in jail. and this first confession was wordless. and completely clear. she stood before him, and he before her, with total honesty in their look. her hand reached out to him. and he was so humbled before her love that his hand moved, inched!, slowly over the grill towards her fingers, as if asking permission to hold hers. but when they did reach her fingers, and - she didn't move away!, - he reached in and held her hand so tight that for a moment it looked like they'd need a crowbar to wrench those intertwined fingers apart.

i had never seen anything so heartbreakingly beautiful as a depiction of love before.

prem spoke then. and what he said sounded like a question. but he wasn't asking her anything at all. he had his answer even before he had spoken a single word. which is why when she cried, he took her tear, held it to his heart, giving her back his answer and left. and there was nothing left for her to say. he had just made a clear counter move in their chess game, matching her sacrifice with anything of his.

after this, everything that prem did was set against the benchmark of her declaration of her love for him. everything that we have seen that prem has said, or done, about his love for heer was against the backdrop of this grand sacrifice of heer's. that junoon of hers required - for prem - all the junoon that he has displayed till now.

and at least, for me, as of this point in time - post the wedding fiasco rescue, sitting in the little room with no riches, no guarantees -- the balance of love is on par; the chess game is matched on both sides with equal strength. i'm happy, but i'm not either player.

the question is - does prem believe it? does heer? who is going to win the chess game? when are they going to decide that it's a draw?

😊

did this make sense?

Thanks Shabo, I''m glad you enjoyed it.

As Estee brought to my attn, however, i didn't remember Every Detail...I left out one very important piece of the puzzle, which she very graciously covered for me!

Estee, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing this to my attention. I feel I have cheated myself in leaving this very important peice of the puzzle out of my tirade...

How could I have overlook her bold act?

i'd forgotten to include this in my original response. but that is the truth of it.

Absolutely...and after she did it, Prem realized what she had done for him, and concluded the only thing that came naturally to him...that she too MUST care for him in some way....somehow....

forget the feeling, the intagible pulls that these two individuals had been getting in and out of. what was the very first tangible action of putting everything on the line for their love? heer's offer of the queen on her chess board: the act of giving herself in to the police to save prem juneja from total ruin.

Your words here sent shivers down my spine....My overlooking this was my own ignorance perhaps...but how very very right you are. She took the first step. Then and there, she gave herself away...and Prem was intelligent enough to pick up on it...albeit after his drunken parade around town...

it's an accolade to the quality of indian pari's writing that i forgot to put this missing piece in my original response: the original piece totally missed out this first nove in the prem-heer love chess game.

Not an accolade to my writing, but truly a blunder on my part...I feel I've cheated myself by not including this critical chapter in the first place....

heer, who was only an employee at prem's hotel. who lived in the outhouse with her sister. who had nothing to offer prem juneja. who, in her mind, had been spurned by prem juneja (going against the promise to her father, who broke her father's heart). who, for all practical purposes to prem's mind, had no links whatsoever to him, or his family. who he knows nothing about except those intangible feelings, those looks passed between eyes, like two ships passing in the night, never to meet or to be together. heer offered herself as sacrifice.

You've summed it up beautifully....i need not say anything more...

she takes on the entire burden of the prostitution scandal as her responsibility. and the perfect prem juneja who is always in control, loses it. first he refuses to accept her culpability. and then when he is presented with what looks like irrefutable evidence, freaks out in public, accusing heer bitterly of never having accepted her of such action.

How could I forget? He was so furious that he thought he mistook her character...he thought he read her incorrectly....how shattered he was then...that plead in his eyes - say you're lying...say it! ...That drunken release of frustration as he collapsed to the ground in the rain, repeatedly asking "WHY?"....

he believes she is guilty of the crime for a while. and punishes himself. he does things that he considers a vice -- he drinks himself silly. was prem preparing himself for a life of sin at the moment? i wouldn't be surprised if he was.

Punishes Himself. Preparing for a life of sin.
I'm speechless....mesmerized by the words you've penned....

it's only when his head clears and his mind cools, that he thinks again about what he had heard, and what he knows from before, about heer. and nothing adds up. so he digs further into his mind, and comes up with sure fire knowledge that she is not guilty. that she has done this deliberately to save his skin from jail, his wealth from being taken away, his hotel from disrepute.

Is it at this moment that he falls deeper in love? Is it at this moment that he allows himself to fall deeper and in the same moment, step further away from the promise he had made to Lallu? We asked before why and how could Prem continue to persue Heer? Was it her actions here that gave him the courage?

and that's when he also knows that she loves him, beyond anything that he has imagined possible. because he knows that she loves him beyond herself. because she is willing to sacrifice what little remains of her life -- her sister, her self -- for him.

Yes...I thought so....this is why he just KNEW that his giving up his all for her would not be in vain...never. She had so little else to offer him...so she offers all she can....HERSELF...without thinking twice, because as she is to him, so is he, to her...the most important.

Meher's bitterness was valid, but how beautifully she accepted the fact that Prem infact is everything and more for Heer...he always has been. And ever since, she was so very supportive. I think here, Meher realized that Prem would always be there for Heer as well, just as Heer was for him. Perhaps this is when Meher realized that Heers love is so true, that it cannot go in vain. Perhaps here is where Meher fully begins to trust Prem and his love for Heer completely as well....

y'know? i don't say this lightly, but i think every person loves themselves the most -- it can't be otherwise. the only people that i know who can love beyond themselves are probably mothers. and even there, not all can or do love as selflessly. in any case, i think prem was sure that heer is not his mother. 😆

Love the comic relief...I needed it. I agree with you here...Mothers are all I can think too...but, can it be in a real world setting that two people feel this way about each other? Or are our Premeer something of a different world?

so for me, the most beautiful statement of love ever made on tv, was not prem's confession. it was when prem comes to visit heer in jail. and this first confession was wordless. and completely clear. she stood before him, and he before her, with total honesty in their look. her hand reached out to him. and he was so humbled before her love that his hand moved, inched!, slowly over the grill towards her fingers, as if asking permission to hold hers. but when they did reach her fingers, and - she didn't move away!, - he reached in and held her hand so tight that for a moment it looked like they'd need a crowbar to wrench those intertwined fingers apart.

Thank you for picking up on everything I left out...

This moment was indeed the first statement the two shared together. The way they held each other's hand through the railing....so tight as though neither would ever let go, but...in this outreach, I believe Prem silently said his thank you, and she silently said her apoligies...and maybe, just maybe, they both said "I love you".
I can't help but think that perhaps here, for the moment, the rail served as some sort of symbolism...so close, yet so far away....so close, but not without obstacles in the way....

i had never seen anything so heartbreakingly beautiful as a depiction of love before.

Thank you for so beautifully bringing it to my attention.

prem spoke then. and what he said sounded like a question. but he wasn't asking her anything at all. he had his answer even before he had spoken a single word. which is why when she cried, he took her tear, held it to his heart, giving her back his answer and left. and there was nothing left for her to say. he had just made a clear counter move in their chess game, matching her sacrifice with anything of his.

It was spectacular indeed....He clearly in his "question" disguised his own knowledge of what she had done, and why she had done it. He clearly negated all of her "confessions" as to why she had "committed the crime"....The look on his face then...the unspoken words in his eyes were enough to make me quiver....it was such a beautiful scene....so touching, yet so heartbreaking at the same time. How could I forget how with Heer's tears, Prem's heart wept too...and with them both, I couldn't help but shed a river myself...as the background score related "de de koi jaan bhi agar, dilbar pe ho na koi asar", these two were living the words by via actions...

after this, everything that prem did was set against the benchmark of her declaration of her love for him. everything that we have seen that prem has said, or done, about his love for heer was against the backdrop of this grand sacrifice of heer's. that junoon of hers required - for prem - all the junoon that he has displayed till now.

Your mention of "junoon" here is perfect. When Prem goes back with evidence to free her of the accusation, he clearly tells the police officer that now this is a battle between her "junoon" and his "junoon"....her passion and his passion, her love, and his love, her sacrifice, and his own. Truly beautiful.

and at least, for me, as of this point in time - post the wedding fiasco rescue, sitting in the little room with no riches, no guarantees -- the balance of love is on par; the chess game is matched on both sides with equal strength. i'm happy, but i'm not either player.

I'd like to think that both players are...atleast a bit happy with the way things have turned out...in their case, perhaps love really does, and will conquer all...

the question is - does prem believe it? does heer? who is going to win the chess game? when are they going to decide that it's a draw?

both believe it...the draw will take time....until then, they'll go back and forth putting their best plays into motion.

😊

did this make sense?

Of course it did...I can't thank you enough for it.

Did I mention I can't thank you enough for this? ...Really, I can't.
