Other Characters

The Mann's (Heer's family)

Balraj Mann - A loving father who fits the roles of a provider, protector, friend, counsellor and much, much more. He always knows what's on both his daughters minds. Their his pride.

Teji Mann - Balraaj's wife and a very simple lady. The perfect mother is what people would call her. She's the pillar that has strongly held the family together. Teji usually has all the answers and words of encouragement up her sleeve. Its, Teji who over the years has managed to make their house a home. She is still in hope that her son shall return one day, the son whom they lost many years ago.

Meher Mann - A child at heart and Heer's younger sister. Equally as beautiful as her sister but can be slightly foolish at times. Totally dependable on her parents and elder sister. Meher has quite a good sense of humor and is always able to turn the most serious of situations into humorous ones. She's constantly nagged about her obsession with food by family members but for Meher - food is what her life revolves around.

Daljeet Mann - Unfortunately all stories have their villains and so does this one. However Daljeet isn't just one of those many villains who shall come between Prem and Heer, in fact she's blinded by her own selfishness and an extremely jealous person. She knows how to keep everyone in her control. Be it her kids or her good for nothing husband. Daljeet knows how to burn but will she be able too? Now that's the
question!

Balwant Mann - Balraj's younger brother and completely useless. He has never, nor shall he ever have a say in anything. Are you wondering why? Well with Daljeet around, do you think that's really possible? Balwant is quite a shady person and his true personality is never really clear. Nevertheless, under the influence of Daljeet, one would expect him to be negative as well.

Ashlesha Mann - A spoilt, ungrateful, nasty brat. Ashlesha is extremely inconsiderate and like her mother, Daljeet, gets what she wants. She's completely hopeless and over the years been totally brain-washed by her Mother and now she also has nothing better to do than to think of new sneaky, conniving schemes in order to achieve her desired results. There's no doubt that she's beautiful, however her insecurities
have led her to apply more make-up than an average person would on a
day-to-day basis.

Vishaka Mann - A sweet, innocent and faithful young girl who despite spending most of her life with her mother and sister, has managed to maintain her good-nature and kindness. Vishaka despises liars and more importantly their lies which explains her dislike for her family. Her internal beauty is no match to her external beauty. But still she always manages to get her way

The Juneja's (Prem's family)

Krishna Juneja - She may be the head of the Mann family who commands respect from everyone around her but in reality she's a very lively person, prankster and full of stories for every occasion. Despite having seen a lot in her life - ups and downs, this has never disheartened her. She lives for her family as they are her only support after the death of her beloved husband.

Lalit Juneja - Despite living abroad for almost 18 years now, he still values his culture and traditions and has tried his best to teach all his children to do the same. Now a prominent business man in Canada, but the reality is he's still the simple man he was when he left his home town Ambala to make something of himself. Balraaj to him is less of a friend and more a brother. Once Lalit Juneja makes a promise, he's willing to
risk even his life in order to fulfill it. Lalit fell in love with Shipra during his college years and married her. Things were bliss until about five years into their marriage when Shipra discovered that she had cancer. Breast cancer to be precise. Unfortunately it being in the last stages, Shipra passed away soon after. Leaving her and Lalit's two kids - daughter Kulraaj and son Prem for him to care for.

Gayatri Juneja - To the world she may be Lalit's second wife and Prem and Kulraj's step-mother, however anyone who has ever known her would immediately be able to say that Prem is the apple of her eye whom her life revolves around and Kulraj well she's equally as important. Gayatri has never and nor does she intend to treat her so called step-children differently. This is what has forced Lalit who at first found it difficult to accept her as his wife to love her so greatly for, that at a young age she
gave up her everything to marry him, her late sister's husband and accepted his children open-heartedly.

Kulraj Juneja/Malhotra - Lalit's and Shipra?s daughter and the eldest sibling. She fell in love with Kiran and married him against all odds. Lalit had almost disowned her daughter but it?s because of the efforts of Gayatri and Prem that Lalit accepted Kiran and married Kulraj off. Kiran and Kulraj are not very well as Kiran is merely a manager in a firm. They have a five-year-old daughter ? Gunjan who is perhaps the only person who can make Lalit laugh openly. Even though Kulraj has to think twice before she has to spend, she is proud of the fact that her husband is a self made man.

Kiran Malhotra - Kulraj?s husband who loves her a lot. He is a self made man and works as a manager in a firm. Marrying Kulraj hasn't benefitted him in any way as he had thought it would, however he still maintains a very cordial relationship with his in-laws and loves Kulraj greatly.

Harman Juneja - Lalit has all his hopes pinned on Harman who is now training as a lawyer at a prominent law firm. Even though its Prem who carried forward the business successfully, Harman is his favorite son. He's quite soft-spoken but determined to make it big not only in the business world but also as a lawyer, Gayatri and Lalit's first child. He like his mother has never dared to differentiate between himself and his dear
brother, Prem and it was Harman who cried the most on Kulraaj's bidaai. Harman could be considered quite sensitive but on a very few occasions have his emotions over-flown so greatly that he can no longer control them. To Lalit, Harman can never go wrong. Its impossible.

Preet Juneja - He is Lalit and Gayatri's child and the youngest son. A complete flirt but at the same time sweetheart. Lalit absolutely detests his laid-back attitude and his brothers are always trying to encourage him to become something in life. However Preet Juneja has other plans. He wants to enjoy his life, rather than being tied-down by his family whom he loves greatly. He changes his girlfriends more than his clothes.
Lalit feels that nothing will happen of his as he is not at all serious about anything.

Veera Juneja - A spoilt brat but has a good heart. To her money holds great importance and so does status. Being the youngest child, everyone leaves no stone unturned in spoiling her as much as they can and she is undoubtedly the most pampered of the lot. Veera is proud of her beauty and believes that its the key to a wealthy husband.

Coming up - Part 1.

Till then enjoy these very lengthy character sketches of each character. Most of their personalities are the same as in the show. However I've tried to describe them in my own original way. Hope you all like it!

Part
1

It had been almost 19 years since Lalit Juneja had been ad-mist his own people in India. He recalled how his best friend had bid him goodbye when he was leaving to make something of himself. The only reason he had survived all these years abroad was in the hope of returning to India and fulfilling his promise of marrying his eldest son to Balraaj's daughter Heer.

"Dad!!!! I'm back after doing exactly what you had asked me too" Preet's jubilant voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Chalo....shukar hai pehli dafa hi sayi....kaam to kar ke aya mera. Now give me the tickets...I can't trust you with them for long you know." Lalit Juneja said casually whilst imagining what his return to India would be like.

"Aap kabhi toh meri tareef kar liya karein. Itna bhi bura nahi hoon. Ek mintue bhi deta hoon tickets." he reached into his pocket.

However, Preet failed to find anything and due to this he even tried to sneak away whilst his dad was lost in his own thoughts. But before he could get away, Lalit caught him.

"Are ab kahan jaa raha hai tu? Tickets toh deta ja. You got them for tomorrow right?"

"Haan woh dad tickets toh kal ki hi hain lekin rakhi kahan hai woh main bhool gaya" Preet stuttered.

"Bhool gaya kya matlab?" Lalit was beginning to loose his temper but before he could question Preet any further, Gayatri and Dadi came to his rescue.

Gayatri had always been able to calm her husband down even in the most tense of situations. Now, that was exactly what she did this time as well. Preet was forgiven for his mistake once again and sent to look for the tickets he had misplaced whilst Lalit did his daily Puja with Gayatri and his mother. Soon after, Lalit left for work and Gayatri and Dadi became busy with the packing. They were after all returning to India after so long. Veera was still not keen on this trip to India...she wasn't convinced that she'd be able to live in such a conservative and old-fashioned environment and that too for so long. However, Lalit's orders meant there was no way out and so to compensate she had gone shopping. It had always managed to relax her. As as matter of fact anything in which spending money was involved relaxed her.

"Maa...dekho maine aaj kya liya" Veera barged into her mother's bedroom.

"Hogayi teri shopping....shukar kar aaj ghar mein nahi thi...tere papa ne aaj nahi chorna tha Preet ko agar main time par nahi pohunchti." Gayatri explained the situation earlier.

"Sachi Maa? You should have let dad hit him today. Its high time Preet realizes his mistakes"

"Haan....haan....its high-time Preet realizes his mistakes haina Veera?" Preet interrupted them as he imitated his younger sister.

"Preet tum kab aye" Gayatri questioned.

"Bas abhi hi....tickets mil gaye Maa...I found them in my car." he answered his mother.

Immediately, in fear of Preet, Veera ran out of the room and Preet followed her. Gayatri laughed at their childishness silently wondering where her other two children were. She tried both Prem's and Preet's cells but no one answered. She was beginning to worry. She hadn't seen Prem all day and they still had to tell him about his marriage - the main purpose of their return to India. Once Lalit and Harman returned together,
that was one less thing to worry about. Harman had been busy completing errands for his father. Hence, he hadn't had a chance to answer his phone all day. But where was Prem? He knew they were going to India tomorrow. If he wasn't in the office then where had he disappeared too?

Lalit and Harman assured her that he was fine despite there own concerns deep down. Preet had left for a farewell party a while back and Veera was fast asleep as to her appearance mattered the most. They didn't want to worry Dadi either. Harman decided he'd go look for Prem but before he could, Prem had arrived home.

"Arre...Maa...Bauji aur Harman tum? Aap sab abhi tak yahaan kya kar rahe hain? You haven't gone to bed yet?" He was surprised to see them all awake, it being almost midnight now.

"Prem! Beta kahan chale gaye the? Poora din gayab the. Ek dafa bhi phone nahi kiya." Gayatri said, now in tears as she found it impossible to control her emotions.

"Maa...hum kal India jaa rahe hain! Hum sab. Lekin Kulraaj Didi toh yahin hongi. Woh baad mein jo arahi hain. I went to say goodbye. She had told me, she wouldn't be able to come to the airport tomorrow. Aur aapko toh pata hi hai keh she lives 2 hours away. Itna waqt toh lagta hi hai."

"Woh to theek hai lekin kisi ko bataana toh tha Beta" Lalit added. He felt a sudden urge to see his eldest daughter. He had completely forgotten that she'd be coming afterwards. How could he leave without seeing her? Although he didn't really like his son-in-law and preferred to see little of him, he couldn't ignore his daughter now could he?

"Haan Bhai! We were all so worried. Chalo ab main chalta hoon. Bahut neend agayi hai. Aur ab toh Prem bhaiyya bhi agaye hain. Good night Maa, Bauji!" Harman said as he yawned and then exited their lavish sitting room.

"Maa ab main bhi jaata hoon. I'm quite tired." an exhausted Prem reasoned.

"Zaroor beta lekin pehle tere Bauji tumse baat karna chaate hain. Bahut zaroori hai." Gayatri explained. They had to tell Prem, they were leaving for India tomorrow evening and that too for Prem's alliance with Heer which he had no idea about. What if he refused? Gayatri left the father and son alone too talk and made her way to her bedroom. It really was quite late and she couldn't afford to wake up late tomorrow. There were so many preparations that still needed to be completed but would she be able to in such little time?

"Prem as you know we'll be going to India tomorrow. Our real home. Aaj tak tumne meri har baat maani hai, business mein itna haath bataaya hai. Aaj tumhara yeh baap tumse ek aur cheez maangna chaata hai. Will you give it to him?"

"Haan Bauji aap pooch keh to dekhein."

"Beta, mera sab se acha dost Balraaj jis ki waja se main aaj itna bara businessman ban paya hoon, I promised him something years ago aur woh bhi bhagwaan keh saamne. We always had the desire to turn this friendship of our's into a never ending relationship and there was no better way to do this then to get you and Heer married. At that time you were too young but now the time has come. Mujhe poora yakeen hai keh tum mujhe na nahi karoge. Lekin phir bhi ek baar pooch na chaata hoon. Warna India jaane ka koyi faida nahi hai. The only purpose of this visit is to get the two of you married finally."

"Jab aapne mere liye ek larki chun hi li hai to main kaun hota hoon aapko haan ya na kehne waala. Till today, I've believed in love and that there is someone who has been made just for me. Aur mujhe aapki choice par poora bharosa hai. Shayad Heer hi woh larki hai. Main tayaar hoon Bauji. Aaapko meri wajah seh kabhi sharmindaa nahi hona parega."

"Prem tu sach mein Ram hai. Maine zaroor kuch acha kiya hoga pichle janam mein jo mujhe tumhare jaisa beta mila hai. Ab chalo sojate hain. Kaafi deir hogayi hai."

"Ji chaliye Bauji. Sach mein - its quite late."

Okay well there you go. That's the first part. Heer's family shall be introduced in the next part. I do hope you all like it. Please do comment. Criticism is welcome as well. I'd love to be able to improve my writing through your comments. Thanks!
