Secret Superstar had low opening day in tha range of 4.50-4.75 crore nett. The film was affected by festivities for Diwali in most circuits but that is always the case for a film released on Diwali day. The collections of the film were best in Bangalore while Mumbai city and Pune were also fair. Generally the collections outside metros were very poor and this was partly due to Diwali puja but also as this genre does not hold much interest for that audience especially as far as the initial goes. The film may have Aamir Khan as a face but it does not make much difference in the core markets for Hindi films. The worst was UP which had awful numbers. The film will be depending on the metros and possibly a few other A centres especially the ones with a bigger Muslim audience.
The film will have a huge jump on Friday as it is the big holiday for Diwali and the best day for collections in the year and the figures will be much higher than what these type of normally do which means a far bigger audience will come due to the holiday and the solid 1750 screen release the film has managed to get. The screen count is not huge if you compare with likes of Tubelight and Bahubali - The Conclusion but for this genre its big as 1000 screens would have been enough. The film will have Golmaal Again for competition from today and this will make it tougher outside the metros as that film will be first choice but Secret Superstar will probably dent Golmaal Again in the metros especially in places like Bangalore and Kolkata.

The film will do well...especially due to word of mouth and critical acclaim...but probably at a slow and steady pace.

It is facing tough competition from Golmal again which is from an established film series.
But I am still optimistic like you for this movie.

Okay so I saw the movie...and it is a really nice one...on sort of the same line as Tare Zameen Par...in the sense that it is about allowing the child to be themselves and achieve their dreams...and the focus here is the female child...whose dreams and aspirations more often than not take a back seat to the their male counter parts.
The story itself is pretty evident from the trailer...but what I didn't know was...

****************
SPOILER:

Meher plays Najma...an uneducated young mother of 2 who suffers from domestic abuse. Despite this she tries to make the best of things for her 2 children, especially her daughter Insia. It is she who gave her daughter a guitar when she turned 6. It is she who sells her gold necklace (for which she gets a good thrashing later) to buy Insia a laptop. And it is she who gives her the idea of concealing her identity with a burqa for her YT videos.

Near the end of the movie Insia has a spat with her mother and she calls her stupid. It is then that her father's aunt who lives with them tells her how when her mom was pregnant with her, her father took Najma for an abortion, because he didn't want a girl, but Najma (Meher) ran away and came back 10 months later after having delivered her.

This shocking revelation causes Insia to see her mother in a new light. There's a straw that breaks the camel's back and in the end Najma takes her 2 children and leaves her husband...and Insia achieves her dream of becoming a hit playback singer...and she gives a heartwarming tribute to her mom...the real secret super star. Very emotional ending...I cried buckets 😆

*****************

Lovely movie...not the same high as Tare Zameen Par...but it comes pretty close.

Aamir has a wonderful cameo in this...really funny 😆...and his appearances are peppered throughout the movie so it seems like he's there for longer than he actually is.

If you haven't seen the movie go and see it...if nothing but to support Meher and good cinematic pieces like this one. 👍🏼

what i like the about the movie is tat it was real.I ahve seen many peopl going thru abuses just cause fr their kids.meher character shows how strong a mother can be even wen she ran she was pregnant.it's said na u can break a wife not a mother.just love the scene in airport.evn the small kid was so cute.the love story of insiya n chintan as sweet too .there was nthing which I dislike abt the movie.I give the movie 8.5 on 10.
I saw golmal too being a huge fan of series bt was disappointed dont know why.must b mre expecation or Wat .I give it a 6.

Right...it is a good piece of cinema...and the story is something a lot of people can relate to. I tell you we think we live in a modern society with so many technological advances and yet when it comes to giving equal opportunities to girls we are so far behind...and this is true all over the world.

Hats off to Aamir for bringing such ideas to light.

I haven't seen Golmal yet...I too have enjoyed the series...but I don't know...the trailer for this one didn't impress me. With some series, the director should quit while he's ahead 😆

Secret Superstar Does Pretty Well Over First Weekend
Monday 23 October 2017 11.15 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Secret Superstar had a fairly good weekend as it grossed over 30 crore nett in its extended first weekend. The film released on Thursday which was not a good day for collections but then picked up on the big holiday and has held up well over the weekend. The film is for a very limited audience and though some stations outside the metros are reasonable that is only down to the holiday factor and they are unlikely to do well.

Dear Zindagi which had a similar audience profile with a big star guest role did 32 crore nett over the weekend. It was a three day weekend there and without a clash but it was not a holiday and the that film was also released on 600 less screens. It will be down to the metros to take the film to a respectable total as the reports from smaller cities are not too good and on top there is Golmaal Again going very strong. The collections of Secret Superstar till date are as follows.

Thursday - 4,75,00,000

Friday - 9,00,00,000

Saturday - 8,50,00,000

Sunday - 8,50,00,000 apprx

TOTAL - 30,75,00,000 apprx

Note - It is holiday period so final collections are at a slower than normal so there could be a little change to the daily number later on.

So according to Wikipedia..this film was made on a budget of 15 crore...so it has already made more than twice that. I'd call it a hit. 😆
