CHAPTER 3 (The last chapter)

"Preet, sit down na? It will help me to finish the ritual easily," said Meher pushing Preet a bit.
Preet: Wha...what?! Meh..Meher why do you need me for the ritual? *Stammering because of being too scared*
Meher: Uffo Preet! You are blocking my way. Let me go to Prem jeeju and tie him the rakhi. *Making Preet sit down beside Prem*
Preet: No no Meher, don't do...wait what? *Realising what Meher said* Prem jeeju?! You mean PB?! You are going to tie the rakhi to PB? Wow Meher. Go on. Amazing. *Preet clapped in happiness*
Lalit: Why are you so happy nalayek (Useless)?
Preet: Oh why I won't be bauji? Meher and PB already share a great bond. I am so happy that PB is getting a new sister and Meher getting a new brother too.
Meher: Prem jeeju, I can tie you rakhi right?
Prem: Of course you can. In fact, I feel so lucky.
Meher smiled brightly and did all the rituals perfectly. After feeding each other sweets, Prem declared that Meher will get a special gift from him but that he wouldn't disclose before he gets it for Meher.

Everyone was busy in something or the other and was enjoying the festival a lot. Preet was surely relieved but his heart was still not fully at peace. He needed to know the name of the person whom Meher was in love with. Preet's eyes searched for Meher but he could not find her anywhere in the hall room. Preet decided to go and check upstairs. In the rush, Preet bumped into Herman on the stairs.
Herman: What are you up to Preet? Where are you heading like a Tarzan?
Preet: Bhai, I am looking for Meher. Sorry.
Herman: You have actually become a gone case in love Preet.
Herman's phone rang. It was Maya. Seeing the name on the phone screen Preet nudged Herman with his elbow.
Preet: See, you are settled to make Maya bhabi a Juneja so I have to check my one that if I still stand a chance or not.
Then without wasting a minute, Preet again rushed away. Herman laughed at his little brother's craziness and picked up the call of his lady love.

Preet was indeed right. Meher was in of Prem-Heer's bedroom and giving her makeup a touch-up.
Preet: Meher, what are you doing here? I was looking for you everywhere.
Meher: Why Preet?! Anything serious?!
Preet: Yeah obviously. My best friend is in love and being a best friend I have the right to know who is it.
Meher: Oh that? *Sighs* See Preet, I don't want to tell anyone now.
Preet: But I am your best friend Meher. Listen, if you won't tell me now then I won't talk to you and you know that I can be very stubborn if I want to.
Meher: Oh is this the situation now? Okay then wait, I am coming in a bit. His photo is in my phone, so I am going to be bring my phone.
Before Preet could say anything, Meher rushed out of the room. Time was ticking away. It was almost 15 minutes gone when Heer and Prem entered their bedroom and found Preet sitting there with a sulk face.
Heer: Preet, you here? What happened? Why the sulk face?
Prem: Yeah I thought you were really happy half an hour back.
Preet: PB, Heer bhabi, Meher went to take her phone long back. She said the photo of the guy whom she loves is in her phone. She was supposed to come back and show me who the guy is.
Prem: But Meher is playing with the kids downstairs.
Preet: What?!
Heer: Yeah Preet. But wait, did you ask her to tell you about him or she wanted to tell you by her own.
Preet: Ask? I literally had to force her bhabi.
Heer: Preet, then she just made you a fool and ran away.
Preet: Oh no! *Slapped his forehead in frustration* This time I am not going to allow any pranks. I am going downstairs.
Prem: Go fast, go fast.
Preet ran downstairs and Prem checked if anyone was in the corridor. Then he locked the door.
Heer: What are you doing Prem?
Prem: Time to get back my heart darling. *Winks*
Heer blushed.

Downstairs

Preet came downstairs only to find that his PB and Heer bhabi were right. Meher was playing monopoly with the kids. Preet came up to them and sat there making a grumpy face.
Meher: Oh kids, look who is here? A grumpy Preet mamu. *Trying to control her laugh*
Tanu: Why are you angry mamu? Did Vikas eat all your chocolates which I gave you?
Vikas: What?! No, I did not even touch them.
Ketan: And I didn't even know that Tanu gave Preet mamu chocolates.
Preet: Kids, I am not angry on any of you. Ask your Meher mami, *Meher rolled her eyes listening what Preet said* uh I mean maasi why she is doing this to me.
Meher: I did not do anything kids. Your mama should think what he is doing.
Vikas: You elders are so confusing uff!
Preet: No only your Meher maasi is. She loves to talk in riddles. Bye everyone.
Preet stood up and walked towards the bedroom of his parents.
Meher: Oops! I think your mamu is angry. I got to go kids. He is my best friend na? Sorry can you play on my place too Ketan?
Ketan: Okay Meher maasi.
Tanu: Yeah maasi, you can go to our grumpy mamu.
Meher laughed and pulled the cheeks of the kids. Then she headed towards the bedroom of her Lalit uncle and Gayatri aunty.

There Preet was, sitting with the ladies. Gayarti, Teji and Kulraaj were having a good time gossiping while Preet was busy playing a game on his phone. Preet's angry face described that he was surely very annoyed.
Meher: Hello ladies. So why can I see a man here or did just Preet accept that he is a woman? I mean she, I mean he. Oh well he or she, whatever.
Preet: Haha very funny. *Irritated sarcastic tone* Maa please tell Meher not to disturb me.
Teji: What did you do Meher? Why is Preet so irritated?
Kulraaj: Let it be aunty, it is just Preet's usual things. He is such a nautanki (Dramatic) person always.
Gayatri: Kulraaj is right.
Preet: Okay fine. I am a nautanki (dramatic)? So what is Meher then? I told her to say me whom she loves. Come on, I am her best friend. She made me a fool at first and now she is talking in riddles which is making me confused and irritated.
Meher: Okay Preet, I will tell you.
Preet: Really?
Meher: Yes Preet really.
Preet: Nice then. *Smiles* Okay so tell?
Meher: The person whom I love is a male gender. Rest you think. *Laughs* You look so cute when you are angry, you know?
Preet: Enough is enough Meher. *Angry voice*
Preet walked out of the room. Meher understood this time Preet was really very angry. Meher told the others that she would manage it and then left the room.

Meher knew where Preet could be and she was right. Preet was on the common balcony upstairs. He was walking back and forth impatiently in anger. Seeing Meher, Preet walked off to the banister side.
Meher: Preet, listen to me. Come on. *Placing her hand on Preet's shoulder*
Preet: Meher, I am not in the mood to talk about any riddles now. So please leave me alone.
Meher: Preet, look I never knew you were such a fool or actually maybe I was.
Preet: See? *Turns to Meher* You are again talking in riddles. Meher do you even understand how much tension you are giving me? Can't you just tell me who is he? *Giving Meher's shoulders a jerk*
Meher: Why are you in tension Preet?
Preet: I don't know.
Meher: Okay if you don't know then let us go downstairs. I have to ask Heer didi if she has extra rakhi's at home.
Preet: What?! Now from where again did the rakhi thing come from? *Frustated* Meher now you want to tie me a rakhi? *A very shocked and sad face*
Meher: Preet, Preet uff! What do I do with you. You can ask me this but you can't do the thing I want you to do.
Preet: I think I should leave, you are making me a mad person with these riddle talks. *About to leave*
Meher: *Holding Preet's hand* Wait Preet. *Grabbing Preet's shoulder lovingly* No Preet, I am not going to tie rakhi to a person with whom I want to be tied up in a gathbandhan (Coalition) of marriage. Actually my two cousin brothers are coming.
Preet: Okay go then and tie rakhi to your brothers. *Realising what Meher said* Wait, wait wait wait?! What?! Did I hear just right?
Meher: Yes buddhu (Fool). *Slapping Preet's forehead slightly* You are such a foolish man I must say. Couldn't you understand any of the hints I was dropping every now and then for the last two months?
Preet: But I thought I was dropping hints to you but you never understood them.
Meher: Uff! I did understand but you did not. Come on, I am a girl Preet, I was waiting for you to take the first step. Preet Juneja, what do I do with you? *Sighs*
Preet: *Grins* Nothing, just love me. I love you Meher.
Meher: I love you too Preet. *Blushed*
Then Preet hugged Meher and Meher hugged him back. It was a long hug. A hug of love, a hug of enternal peace.

Finally breaking the hug, Preet was about to kiss Meher when Meher put her hand in between their lips. "Not so easily Preet Juneja," said Meher giving Preet a quick kiss on his cheek and then ran downstairs. Preet leaned on the banister and looked down. "Meher, wait," yelled Preet. "No, Preet. I can't," Meher replied with a small laugh and ran away. Preet just kept standing in that position and smiled to himself thinking the incidents that happened in last few minutes.
