CHAPTER 2
Preet followed Meher in horror to the hall room of the Juneja Mansion. To Meher's surprise, there was no one in the hall anymore. "I think Kul di and Veera are done choosing suits for them", Meher said with a surprised tone. She waited for Preet's reply but when she got nothing in a reply she looked into Preet's direction. Preet was lost into some thought. Meher jerked him and Preet finally came back to his senses. Meher laughed at him and sat on the sofa. Preet sat beside her.
Preet: Huh?! What happened Meher?
Meher: What happened to me?! What happened to you Preet? Where were you lost?
Preet: Oh that, nothing. Just some rakhi tensions. You say? *Trying to hide his nervousness*
Meher: Rakhi tensions?! Oh haha, you were thinking about the bills right? *Laughs* Anyway, I was saying that maybe Kul di and Veera are done with choosing suits. No one is here.
Preet: I wish it was about the bills but I think after today, I will have to buy some sleeping pills.
Meher: What do you mean Preet? *Confused*
Preet: Nothing Meher and I forgot to tell you that Kul di told me to convey you a message. They were not done with choosing suits but maa wanted both the sisters to get ready so they have told the woman to come in the afternoon. You can choose then with them.
Meher: Oh okay, no problem. Kul di and Veera are just super sweet.
Preet: Really? Okay, so what about your best friend?
Meher: Just as bitter as the bitter gourd.
Preet: Uff Meher. By the way, I wanted to ask you something. For who...whom did you buy the extra rakhi? *Stammering because of being nervous*
Meher: That is a surprise Preet. I won't tell you now.
Preet: Okay, don't. But do you believe that friends can be your brothers too?
Meher: What kind of a weird question is that Preet?
Preet: Just answer na please?
Meher: Yeah I surely believe in that. In fact, the person whom I am going to tie the surprise rakhi today is someone of that kind.
Preet felt like his stomach is crushing everything it has inside there and his throat got dry. He just stood up and looked for his elder brothers. Seeing his PB coming downstairs to the hall, he went towards him leaving a very confused looking Meher behind.
Meher: I think Preet is too much worried about his upcoming bills.
After a while
Prem: Preet stop, where are you taking me? You have been dragging me since I came downstairs.
Preet: PB, my life is ruined. I am ruined. I am just taking you to a corner to tell you my devdas gatha. (Hopeless love story)
Prem: I think we are in a corner now. So stop.
Preet: Really? *Looking around* Oh yeah. PB, my biggest fear has come true. Meher is going to tie someone a surprise rakhi.
Prem: Huh?! Okay but did she tell you that the surprise rakhi is for you or did she drop any hints for that?
Preet: So what do you think I am getting devdas for? She definitely did drop a hint.
Prem: What?! *Surprised* Preet, what are you saying?
Preet: Yes PB, she said she will tie the rakhi to someone who is like a friend and brother to her.
Prem: Oh no. *Recalls something* But wait, I think you still have slight chances Preet Juneja.
Preet: PB, please! Don't crack jokes on your little brother on a situation like this at least.
Before Prem could answer Preet, both the brothers heard Nihal's voice and there he was, standing in the hall room with Balraaj Maan and Teji Maan. Preet and Prem went towards him.
Prem: Namaste (Greetings) Papaji-Mummyji. *He touched their feets* Hello Nihal! *Hugged Nihal*
Just like Prem Preet also greeted Baalraj and Teji, took blessing from them and hugged Nihal saying hi to him.
Teji: Are we the late ones here? Nihal's papaji had to attend some urgent meeting on the festival day also. These men. *Irritated face*
Gayatri: True that Teji! These man.
Everyone looked behind and found the whole Juneja family along with Meher standing in the hall.
Lalit: But these man work only for you ladies, Gayatri.
Baalraaj: Now this is 100% right Lalit.
Nihal: Now if you elders are done, I want to say something too.
Teji: Okay beta (Son), but before that I want to ask where is the Sharma family? I mean Maya and her family.
Gayatri: Actually they have gone to Amritsar for enjoying the festival with their whole family this time.
Heer: Yeah, we all are missing Maya so much.
Teji: Yes, such a sweet baccha (Kid) she is. Her family is so nice too.
Meher: Yes maa. By the way, Nihal bhaiya you are looking so impatient. What is the matter?
Nihal: Meher, I think you better not talk today. I have a big surprise for everyone regarding you. *Gives a detective look to Meher*
Meher: What is it bhaiya?! *Surprised*
Nihal: Wait a bit. Let the rakhi rituals finish.
Lalit: Okay okay then I think we should start the rituals now.
Gayatri: Yes yes let us go everyone.
In a few minutes, the rituals started with full swing. At first, Kulraaj and Veera tied rakhi to their three brothers and took gifts. Then it was Heer's turn. She tied rakhi on the wrist of Nihal along with Herman and Preet. Then they gave her gifts. Lastly, it was Meher's turn. Meher tied rakhi on Nihal's hand and asked for her gift.
Nihal: No gifts for you this year. You have already surprised me enough now let me first give the surprise to everyone.
Veera: But before any surprises, I think I would like to ask to my all three brothers what 3 surprise gifts they have for all the young ladies here.
Kulraaj: I am so excited about Preet's one because this will be his first time for the surprise gifts. Afterall, finally my baby brother is going to office now.
Kiran: Preet, I think you were better off at home. At least, only buying some gifts would work but this surprise gift surely is expensive for every year. *Laughs*
Preet: Yea yeah, laugh as much as you want jeeju. You don't have to surprise anyone na, so you must be having fun.
Kulraaj: Don't worry Preet. I think from this year, we will start having a surprise gift from jeeju session too.
Hearing that Prem, Herman and Preet made funny faces to Kiran. Kiran just acted as if he is going to beat his three brother-in-laws.
Herman: From my side, a day of shopping for you young ladies. As usual Meher is included too.
Prem: Girls, this year I thought of a family trip. So after Maya comes back. All the three families will take a trip to Sri Lanka for a week. How is it?
The youngsters clapped on this.The elders did not want to go at first but after a bit persuasion, they agreed. After that everyone looked at the direction of Preet and Preet made a puppy face.
Preet: Why everyone is looking at me? Come on, I am not rich like PB or Herman bhai. I have just started working. Someone tell PB to increase my salary please.
Meher: No excuses Preet. I think you can still gift a spa day to the girls.
Kulraaj: Excellent idea Meher. That will be in Preet's budget and a great makeover for us too.
Preet: Is it so? Then okay.
Veera: Meher di is going to join us in the spa too, right Preet bhaiya?

Kahi hoga na aisa ek bhi hoshyar bhi woh nek bhi. Uuse duniya me sab kehte hai achcha. Kabhi jhoot nahi woh bolta kabhi zaher nahi woh golta. Woh dil ka saaf hai aur bilkul sachcha. Samjhe bachcha?
Everyone at first was shocked but then they smiled thinking about it. But someone was still not out of shock and of course that was Preet. He looked at everything around him as if he was getting too much surprises in one day and he is not able to take anymore.
Everyone excluding Preet:

Ye to bata do hume samjha do hai kis garane ka woh?
Meher:
Woh nahi aisa waisa nahi tumhare jaisa hai naye zamane ka woh.
Baalraaj:
Kahi pada use kya paya tha ya woh khud rota aaya tha?
Lalit:
Hum se to kaho hum par yakin karlo?
Meher smiled at her Papaji and Lalit uncle and ran away from both of them.
Teji:
Jo tumne ishara hai kiya...Maine pehle hi tha keh diya..
Gayatri :
Ladke ki puri chan bin karlo.
Lalit:
Chup bhi raho.
Everyone but not Preet:

Cheez woh kya hain?
Preet almost started sweating and he was about to leave the place when Prem started singing. He stopped and looked back.
Prem:
Chup rehtha hai ya bole jata hai kya bol karta hain woh?
"Hmm, I talk a lot. PB is such a gem. He is dropping off hints about me", Preet said to himself and gave a big smile to Prem. Prem nooded his head in an affirmative way.
Meher:
Jaaye kahi woh jo baat kare to ek rang bharta hain woh.
"Oh wow, I do talk in colourful ways. Preet Juneja, I think you still stand a chance", Preet thought in his mind and smiled to himself.
Herman:
Indian hai ya angrez hain? Woh seedha hai ya tej hain?
Kiran:
Himmatwala hain kya mere jaisa?
Heer:
Nikamma hai ya kaam ka? No! Heer bhabi, I am a big nikamma (useless). You can't put a bad impression like that. Oh wait, I have joined office since last 2 months. I think, it is absolutely fine then", Preet blabbered in his mind and then smiled like a fool being relieved.
Veera:
Pati banega bas kya naam ka?
Kulraaj:
Woh jaisa bhi ho par na ho aisa. *Pointing at Kiran*
Nihal:

Cheez who kiya hain? Meher answered no one and went upstairs. Everyone started asking Nihal how he get to know about the matter and kept gossiping about who it can be and how he will be. Only Preet kept standing there in a corner biting his nails in tension. He was thinking of going to Meher, just when Meher started coming downstairs. Everyone looked at her with hopeful eyes whereas Preet's eyes were more full of terror than hope.
Meher: Don't be so happy everyone. I am not here to tell you all about the special one but for my rakhi surprise. I think it is time to tie the surprise rakhi of this year. Everyone just forgot about it.
Hearing Meher's words, Preet felt like that he got frozen. The next few moments would be the most difficult moments of his life.
