CHAPTER 5
It was the next day, the day of Pakphere ritual...A car stopped infront of the Maan house...Prem and Heer came out from the car while Herman looked out from the car's window, dialling Maya's number...Maya ran to downstairs followed by Meher and opened the gate...She was told by Herman that he would drive Prem and Heer to the Maan house...When he would give her a call, she would come down and open the gate...
Prem: Oho, seems like Maya was very much waiting for her sister, oops sorry her Herman i guess...*Teasing*
Heer: Yeah Prem, seems like my sister is not anymore my sister...*Making fake grumpy face to tease*
Herman: *Coming out of the car* Areh, no no bhaiya and bhabi I told her to come down, not her fault...
Meher: Wow! Seems like my would be jeeju is already a joru ka gulam...*Laughs*..
Heer and Prem laughed out too and Herman-Maya turned red...
Prem: I think we should go inside now...Have to meet the elders and leave as soon as possible because bauji needs to go to a relative's place with his 3 sons...
Meher: *Looking inside the car* Preet did not come?
Herman: Oh nope, that lazy ass is still sleeping...
Maya: Haha, now lets go inside everyone...
Prem and Herman stayed a bit in the Maan house...They met the elders and Teji along with Pammi did not let them go without having some snacks...After the Juneja boys left, Heer and Meher took Maya into their room to tease Maya more but Maya turned the teasing table towards Meher taking Preet's name...
Maya: Preet! Preet! Preet, hmm Meher?
Meher: What Preet, Preet?! *Surprised*
Maya: Why were you searching Preet in the car?
Heer: Yeah, Maya I haven't give it a thought...*Being too excited*
Meher: Come on guys! He has become my really good friend that is why I was looking for him...
Maya: Yeah, yeah good friend...I think one day what I am guessing today, will come true...
Meher: You and your thoughts Maya...Keep it to yourself *Getting angry*
Heer: Okay okay, let it be Maya..Maybe they are just friends...
Meher: Yes we are.. *Leaving the room*
Maya: *After Meher left* We will see, right Heer didi?

Maan family was having a real good time with their newly married daughter Heer...It was almost 5 PM when the door bell rang...Maanjeet opened the gate and there was standing a over excited Preet who was almost jumping...He ran inside and went to Meher who was serving some tea to her family members...Preet twirled her around and screamed *Meeeheeer, you did iiit*
Everyone was so surprised, then they saw the other Juneja kids to enter the house too along with Kulraaj's 3 children...
Prem: Congratulations to both of you Preet and Meher...We were about to come at evening but Preet as well as we all could not wait any more after knowing about the matter...
Meher: Sorry jeeju but what are you talking about?
Preet: Oh Meher! We are talking about our admissions...I checked the selected list on internet..You also applied for Marquis University, Australia?
Heer: Yes she did..
Meher was numb for a second, she could not believe she got selected and when she realised it, a beautiful smile broke out on her face and she hugged Heer...Everyone of her family group hugged the two sisters in happiness...Soon, Meher realised, she needed to check that if she had got the full free scolarship too, only then all the happiness would make sense...
Meher: Umm, Preet did you see anything about the scolarship on the list?
Preet: Emm, no Meher..But they have mailed you I guess..Check your mail...
Meher: Okay, you guys wait here, I go to the market and check my mail from the local computer cafe...
Preet: Are you serious Meher? *Rolling his eyes* Here, take my phone and check...
Maya: Yeah Meher, you could have use my phone too...
Balraaj: This is so nice, for us internet is too expensive to use on mobile phones but you kids are so helpful to us...
Maya: Chachu everything which is mine is Heer didi's and Meher's too...
Kulraaj: Same from all of us also...
Veera: Yes yes...
Meher nervously took the phone from Preet and checked her mail..She found a mail from the university..She held her breath for a second and opened that mail...Her eyes grew bigger as she read the mail and everyone became nervous..Meher took a second and closed her eyes...Then she screamed at the top of lungs saying, 'I HAVE GOT THE FULL FREE SCOLARSHIP AND THE HOSTEL IS ALSO INCLUDED IN IT, AS THEY HAD MENTIONED IN THEIR FORMS, I AM GOING TO AUSTRALIA'...
Everyone smiled and started congratulating Meher...Prem told her that Lalit and Gayatri would also come tomorrow to congratulate her...
It was almost dinner time, Meher and Preet were busy in the kitchen...Preet was there to help Meher in the making of Kheer for everyone...Meher was not sure how Preet would help her but Preet was stubborn to help her so she had to take him with her...At that moment, Preet was supposed to bring the milk and he did too but Meher found something unusal while pouring it into the pan...She then tasted it and realised what blunder Preet had done...He brought the coconut milk...Meher being patient with him, told him to bring the actual milk and the sugar...This time Preet brought the actual milk but on the place of sugar, he brought salt...Luckily, Meher could guess that Preet might do another blunder so she looked through the bottle before putting the salt into the pan and with the very first look inside the bottle, Meher could say that it was salt...
Meher: This is salt Preet...
Preet: How do you know without tasting it? Salt and Sugar looks the same...
Meher: No preet, they look quite different, if you look closely...For your assurance, taste it and say..
Preet: *Making a bitter tasting face after having a pinch of salt from the bottle* Yuck, it is salt...It sure is...
Meher: See? Now I need to bring the sugar and the main ingredient...
Preet: I know what it is and trust me, this time no mistake...Let me bring them..
Meher waited for Preet, after few moments Preet was back but what he brought with sugar made Meher's eyes almost touch her forhead...
Meher: What is this Preet?! This is Maya's oats which she brought from Delhi to have every morning on her breakfast...Why you brought it?
Preet: Come on, in Kheer the main ingridient is some sticky kind of thing, that must be the oats right?
Meher: Preeet! *Almost screaming, being fed up*
Preet: What?! *Being clueless*
Meher: That is supposed to be the rice Preet, rice!
Preet: Oh is it? I am sorry.. *Making an awkward face*
Even after all the pain preet gave Meher, Meher was still able to finish the Kheer properly..Now it was the time to decorate the Kheer with almonds and raisins...But when she looked onto the plate where she had kept the raisins, she found the plate empty..She looked at Preet and Preet gave her a pouty smile...
Preet: Umm I love raisins you know...I did not get it, when I ended up eating all of it...
Meher: Preet, you are impossible you know? *She broke out into a laugh*
Preet laughed out too seeing Meher laughing...
At the dinner table they enjoyed the dinner a lot and Preet's kitchen stories too while Preet just made faces every now and then because all the of them except the elders were teasing him...The elders took his side...
Kulraaj: I did not know Mehu that the Palak Paneer actually had problem that day, I thought Preet was joking around...Really sorry about the laughing that day...Sometimes accident happens...Just see how much tasty the Kheer is...You are amazing Meher...
Kiran: Yes the Kheer is totally delicious Meher...
Veera: Mehu di you are awesome...
Meher: Thank you Kiran jeeju and Veera...Don't say sorry Kul di...You are my elder sister, you don't need to say sorry and I can understand di...
Kulraaj: Aww, that is my sweet Mehu...
Everyone praised Meher for the tasty Kheer and Preet told her that half of the credit was his because for his faults she was extra careful while making the Kheer to which Meher just laughed...After the dinner, it was really an emotional situation when Heer was going back with the Juneja's...At night Meher was checking her cupboard that what she would need in Australia...Suddenly she felt like calling Preet...She stopped herself at first seeing the time as it was almost 12 AM but then she could not resist herself and called Preet...Preet answered the call...
Preet: Hello Meher?
Meher: Hello Preet, yeah I am!...Sorry for calling you this late...
Preet: Oho, it is all fine...I am not even going to sleep now...I was playing pc games...
Meher: Ohh...
Preet: So?
Meher: So what?
Preet: So you have called to say me an ohh?
Meher: Oh no sorry sorry, I called you to say that, umm I don't know...I just felt like talking to you...In last 3 weeks, life has taken so many turns... You all came, Heer didi's marriage, we becoming really good friends, our admission in the same university...I don't know what more to come in the future...The way you pacified me yesterday, I just felt like sharing these things with you today...
Preet: First of all, stop saying sorry for so many times...No formalities between friends okay? Then, yeah life has taken so many turns...But it will only get more beautiful in the future Meher...And don't worry Australia will be super fun..After all childhood besties will be together haha...
Meher: Haha yeah...Thank you so much Preet for always being there...
Preet: Again a thank you? No formalities Meher...No!
Meher: Okay okay, I guess I can't say sorry now..
Preet: Hehe you got it...
