CHAPTER 13
The next morning
Preet came out of the bedroom rubbing his eyes when he found Gaurav heading towards the bedroom of the girls. Preet called out Gaurav's name and Gaurav looked back at him. Preet walked up to Gaurav.
Preet: Why are you going to their room?
Gaurav: You mean the girls? Oh, I had to give this notebook to Meher, this belongs to her.
Preet: But you can give it later to her too. It is not right to go in a room where 3 girls are staying.
Gaurav: Preet, I will knock on the door before going in. *Making a fed up face*
Preet: That is okay, but still Meher won't need the notebook at this early hour I guess. Come, give that to me, I will give it to her later.
Gaurav: I don't really know what is wrong with you Preet. Are you having any issue with me? I wanted to talk to you last night but when I came to the room you were already asleep.
Preet: No, I don't have any issues with you. Why would I? *Trying not to look at Gaurav*
Gaurav: But Preet...
Before Gaurav could complete, they heard someone opening the door and Ashlesha came out of the room.
Gaurav: Ash, here take this notebook and give it to Meher. Oh by the way Preet, Meher asked for it last night but eventually I forgot, so I thought it would be nice to give it to her as soon as possible. *Being a bit angry on Preet*
Giving the book to Ashlesha, Gaurav left.
Ashlesha: Preet, what is all this? Why I feel that GR is angry with you?
Preet: I don't know. He is crazy, I think.
Ashlesha: No he is not. Tell me something, why are you always trying to keep him away from Meher these days, hmm?
Preet: What?! No, who said these things to you? I mean come on, why would I do that?
Ashlesha: Because you are jealous Preeto. *Grinning*
Preet: Seriously Ashlesha?! This is what you think? Then you are crazy. *Trying to deny the fact*
Ashlesha: Just look at your face Preet, you absolutely look like being caught red handed. But don't worry, GR does not like Meher in that way, I think. *Laughing*
Preet: Yeah sure, whatever suits you, think. GR likes Meher or not does not matter to me but why I feel you are very happy with the fact, hmm? *Guessing something is up with Ash about Gaurav seeing her expressions*
Ashlesha: Uff Preet. Now, don't try to put the knife on my throat by changing the topic.
Preet: Yeah yeah, sure sure.
Ashlesha: I think we are getting late for our breakfast. Let us go.
Saying this, Ashlesha left and Preet laughed seeing his best friend going away like that. He got sure that something was really up with Ashlesha.
On the breakfast table, everyone was there but just Viren and Gaurav were left. Meher was about to go to call them when they both appeared at the dining table. There were three chairs left, one beside Preet and two on the other side of the table. Meher sat on the chair exactly opposite to Preet. Preet smiled at her but his smile soon vanished when he saw Gaurav was about to sit on the chair next to Meher.
Preet: Hey Gaurav, I think we should sit together buddy, it has been long we have not sit together. Come here, beside me.
Gaurav became really happy thinking that, Preet wanted to sort out things with him, so he went to sit beside Preet and Viren sat next to Meher. Only Ashlesha could understand Preet's real intention and she very hardly managed to stop herself from laughing.
Everyone was out on their destinations after breakfast and the three girls were getting ready to go out for their shopping plan. Ashlesha got ready a bit early, so she thought to check on Viren and who knows, maybe she could get a chance to talk to Viren about the Meher thing too. Without thinking much, Ashlesha headed towards the bedroom of the boys.
Ashlesha: There you are Viru. I came to tell you that we 3 are leaving for shopping. Actually we would wait for you but Meher has assured Kul di that we would cook the lunch and with that she won't have to come back in a hurry and the sessions of the kids will go well, so now we need to leave earlier. You can join us after your work is done.
Viren: What work? Oh that, which I told last night? Actually that got cancelled, the team mates have decided to complete it tonight rather than in the morning. So I can join you guys now. Let us go Ash.
Ashlesha could guess that Viren had lied to everyone last night and he actually wanted to stay at home with them. Ashlesha thought it was actually very much needed to have a talk with Viren about the Meher thing. So she tried to put the topic on.
Ashlesha: Viru, I think before going to shopping, we need to talk on a matter.
Viren: Sure Ash. Is everything alright?
But before Ashlesha could say anything, Claire and Meher came there and they took both of them out of the house because they were getting late. Ashlesha was tensed because of not getting the chance to talk to Viren or one can say, rather she was afraid as she did not want any complicated situation between her friends, so she thought to talk to Viren immediately after coming back to Kulraaj's place.
At the shopping mall
Everyone was having a real good time doing shopping and they were almost done with it. Though Meher and Viren did not enjoy it as much as Claire and Ashlesha did. Of course, they both would not because they did not like shopping. They all were about to go back home, when suddenly Meher came up to Ashlesha and told her that Viren wanted to take her to a bookshop near the mall, where the recent copies of her favourite comics were available. Ashlesha give it a thought as she did not want Meher and Viren to have any alone time and then her head also hit that there were no bookshops near the mall.
Ashlesha: Meher, I think we should go home because we are already late and I don't think, there is any bookshop near the mall.
Viren: There is one, Ashlesha. *Viren came from the back of the ladies*
Ashlesha: Really? Where is it Viru? I don't remember any bookshop near this place.
Viren: This is a newly opened one. Don't worry we will be back within half an hour. Till then you two go home and start preparing the lunch. Meher will join soon too.
Ashlesha did not have a good feeling about Viren's idea but seeing Meher's baby like face which clearly said that she wanted to get her comics very badly made Ashlesha go weak.
Claire: I think we can manage it, right Ash? Mehro please join us in half an hour because you are the captain cook in three of us.
Meher: Yes yes surely I will. Ashlesha, are you okay with it?
Ashlesha: Oh yeah sure Mehro. Go and buy your comics and we will manage the kitchen till then. No worries.
Meher got so happy on this. She hugged both the girls and left with Viren. Ashlesha was not really very happy with the incidents happening. She started missing Gaurav. She thought to herself that, maybe he could help her if he was there.
One and a half hours later
Meher never thought something like this would happen. She was sitting in a beautiful posh restaurant with Viren. The bookshop which was supposed to at a nearby place from the mall turned out to be on a place, an hour away from the mall. Viren told her that he had no idea about it. But as they had already reached the place, they should get the books and have lunch there only because there was no way they would reach home before an hour and that would be really late to even eat lunch let alone making it. Meher tried to call Ashlesha after getting to the place but she did not pick up, maybe she was busy setting up the dining table with Kul di. Meher thought to herself that, what a stupid thing she had done. When Meher was busy feeling guilty, her phone rang up. It was Ashlesha.
Ashlesha: Where are you Meher? I was busy setting up the table with Clairu and Kul di, but where are you two?
Meher: Oh Ash, I am really sorry. I never knew things would turn like this. We reached the place after one hour, can you believe it? Even Viren had no idea about it. After reaching here, he told me to pick the comics and have lunch here as it was already too late to go back home and would get late to have lunch too even if we had started to go back. I am feeling so guilty, Kul di must be thinking what a useless girl I am. *Guilty voice*
Ashlesha: Meher, Meher, please first calm down. Everything is fine and I along with Claire have made lunch. I know it won't be as tasty as yours but it is edible trust me haha. Then, about Kul di, you know her. She would be rather happy to know that you got a chance to roam around the city and got a break from work. So cheer up girl.
Meher: You are such a sweetheart Ash. So is Kul di and Claire. Thank you so much.
Ashlesha: Anytime sweetie. But which bookshop you two went to?
Meher: The one called, "Read and Cherish".
Ashlesha: Read and Cherish? Oh okay. Meher, I am hanging up now. Come back home soon.
Meher: Yes, okay bye Ash.
Ashlesha cut the call and she was already feeling very bad with all the things happening. She surely had caught something wrong with Viren's plan of taking Meher to the bookshop.
At the resturant
Viren: So Meher, the food is served. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants of Melbourne. I am sure you will love their Chinese food.
Meher: The food seems delicious Viren. Thank you so much for bringing me here.
Viren: Anything for you. I mean anything for my closest friends. So let us start.
Viren and Meher were having their food and were having a good time. Viren did not let any chance to praise Meher or to indirectly hit on her.
Meher: Viren, I think we should go home now. The lunch was definitely amazing. Thank you again.
Viren: What is the hurry Mehro? A beautiful girl like you should explore the beautiful city like Melbourne more. See, now you don't have any work at home so we can go and check on some places.
Meher: No Viren. Preet had already showed me all the places and if there is any place left, I will catch up to it with him on any weekend but now I think we should go home. I already feel so embarrassed about the lunch thing.
Viren: Don't feel like that Meher. Everything is fine. Listen I know a place which Preet does not even know about, so why not let me take you there. The place is full of serenity and silence. It won't take much time like this one, trust me.
Meher: It is not about trusting you Viren. Please try to understand, I don't want to put any bad impression to the family, in which my sister got married. I am sorry, I would love to see the place but not today.
Viren: Okay sure Meher, I can totally understand you. No worries, let us go home. If I won't understand you then who would? I mean we are close friends.
Meher: Thanks Viren. Look I am really sorry but you can do one thing, give the location of that place to Preet, he would take me there on a free day. I would love to see the place which you are suggesting this much.
Viren: Umm, yeah sure.
Viren tried to hide his sadness and frustration in his voice on not being able to take Meher to a romantic sightseeing place.
Kulraaj's place
Meher and Viren were home. Everyone present in the house was busy with one thing or another, when Ashlesha came into Viren's room. It was really high time that they both should talk.
Ashlesha: Viren, I really need to discuss something.
Viren: Oh yes, you wanted to do it this morning too. Tell me, is everything fine?
Ashlesha: No it is not Viren. I am afraid you are doing a major mistake unknowingly.
Viren: What?! What are you talking about? *Sursprised*
Ashlesha: Look Viren, I can understand that maybe you have some feelings for Meher in your heart. But you need to know that both Preet and Meher like each other already. I want you to get along with the fact before it gets too late. *Holding Viren's shoulder as if to give him support*
Viren: What? Are you serious Ashlesha? *Shocked*
Ashlesha: Yes I am serious Viru. I have caught the feelings of Preet and Gaurav knew about Meher's one from before. So we both could figure it out when we talked about it. Gaurav told me about you having feelings for Meher and after what happened today, I am sure too now.
Viren: How can you be so sure about my feelings Ash?
Ashlesha: Come on Viru. The bookshop where you took Meher was not any new bookshop. We have been to that area before. You lied to me. I can understand you actually wanted some alone time with her and wanted her to miss the opportunity to cook so that she could be with you for a long time.
Viren: Look Ashlesha, I think you are making a mistake. I have never been to that area. Maybe you and Preet have gone.
Ashlesha: Now stop trying to fool me Viru. Both of us have gone to that area before and you even have told me about the bookshop before. Stop making up stories, it is no harm to accept your feelings Viren. Everyone can grow some feeling for someone but not everytime they will come true. You just need to get over it.
Viren: Okay fine, yeah I like Meher. I do. But are you sure about Preet and Meher? You are not, right? Like I never felt such things about them. Moreover, this is just an assumption which you and Gaurav have made.
Ashlesha: Look Viren, I can understand it is hurting you to accept but you know that no one knows Preet better than us and if I am saying something than obviously I have got some point. On the other hand, as far as the matter of Meher, GR is a very sensible guy and is very close to Meher so I don't think he would do a mistake. See, he even guessed right about your feelings too.
Viren: But still you two are not fully sure.
Ashlesha: Viren listen, please don't try to do anything else on this matter before we get to know surely about the feelings of both Preet and Meher. I can't bear any of you in pain so it is better to stay this way now. At least for now. You are getting me, right Viru?
Viren was about to reply when they heard the voice of Preet, Kiran and Gaurav coming from the drawing room and Kulraaj was calling Ashlesha, so she left. After a while, Viren heard the laughters of Meher and Preet coming from the corridor and started to think if there was any truth in Ashlesha's words. But still he could not come up with anything that could assure him totally that Preet and Meher had feelings for each other. So, he thought to himself that, there was maybe no harm to try on Meher or was there? Viren did not look very sure of what he would do next.
