Raj Kumar Hirani had to wait for Yashraj

Everyone involved with[ Raj Kumar Hirani's next film P.K including Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput'can breathe a sigh of relief. Aamir has finally sorted out his date pile-up.PK finally takes off in April.

Aamir Khan's extensive involvement with his television show Satyamev Jayate had a snowballing effect on his film schedules. While Dhoom 3 was delayed , Raj Kumar Hirani's P.K which was to start late 2012 had to be pushed forward to 2013. And Hirani happily complied. In fact the affable director has gladly adjusted his film's schedules, and asked the film's other two lead actors Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput to also adjust their schedules according to Aamir's rather-challenged date-diary.

And the two young actors, busy in their own right , have woven their other commitments around the P.K schedules. Says a source, "Who wouldn't bend backwards for an Aamir Khan film? Both Anushka and Sushant have juggled their dates in accordance with Aamir's schedules. Aamir has had to do a lot of adjustment and that included time for the promotion of Talaash. Aamir also took time off to go on the Haj pilgrimage. Anushka and Sushant have gone out of their way to adjust their dates.

"Apparently newbie Sushant Singh's dates for Hirani and Yashraj film (directed by Maneesh Sharma) had to be adjusted because of Aamir's scrambled schedules. "But since Raju Hirani had happily pushed forward P.K to let Aamir complete Dhoom 3, Yashraj adjusted Sushant and his leading lady Parineeti's dates to give the young actor elbowroom for PK," says our source. Contrary to some malicious reports apparently being spread by expelled crew members of P.K Aamir Khan and Raj Kumar Hirani are definitely getting together again for P.K. We have it from reliable sources from the P.K crew that Aamir, Sushant and Anushka start shooting in April 2013 for the film. Says a source, "Aamir's schedule for P.K has been pushed to a few months ahead. That's because it was cutting it really close to the last two schedules of Dhoom 3 which has been delayed. Aamir didn't want to jump straight from Dhoom 3 to P.K. They are two completely different worlds and very contrasting characters for Aamir to play.

"Aamir and Raj Kumar Hirani's spokespersom confirms, "Aamir starts shooting for P.K from April. The reports of the delay are being spread by someone who is no more with the film's crew.

]Sushant bags YRF film over Varun and Sidharth

Maneesh Sharma to cast Sushant Singh Rajput instead of Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra

Filmfare.com

Newcomer Sushant Singh Rajput, who makes his debut in Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che! and is working Rajkumar Hirana's Peekay with Aamir Khan, has been signed for Maneesh Sharma's next film. But before Maneesh cast his vote in favour of this newcomer, he had other names in mind. There was Varun Dhawan and then Sidharth Malhotra. He wanted either one of them for his film. But somehow things didn't work out. And the director was happy signing the other newcomer.

Triumph of the Spirit

Jaskiran Kapoor

Abhishek Kapoor admits that The Three Mistakes of My Life is not one of his favourite Chetan Bhagat books. In fact, the Rock On! filmmaker was offered Bhagat's Two States, but there was something about The Three Mistakes..., that made Kapoor choose it out of the lot. A book that has a cult following and has been translated into Gujarati and French, The Three Mistakes..., reflects Kapoor, "makes for excellent material for a film".

With an intriguing title, Kai Po Che, the film that releases on February 22 next year, according to Kapoor, has all the right ingredients ' religion, politics, cricket and youth. "Aren't these the driving forces of the country?" questions Kapoor, as he connects from Mumbai. The story of three boys from Gujarat, the dynamics of their relationship, friendship, dreams, love, conflict, sacrifices and realisations, says Kapoor, moved him "at a soul and cerebral level". Like Rock On! this too pans its cameras on male bonding, but that's where the similarity ends. "While Rock On! was about urban life, music and dreams, Kai Po Che touches a wider base. I would define it as a very satisfying Indian film one that would appeal to all classes and masses, "says Kapoor.

Set in late 2000, the film traverses through four lives in Ahmedabad ' Govind Patel who dreams of running a business; Omi, the son of a Hindu priest who loves cricket; the patriot Ishaan who takes a budding cricketer Ali under his wing and the rebel Vidya, Ishaan's feisty sister. Kai Po Che, as a title, was perfect as it means "a victory call" in Gujarati. "It is an expression used during kite flying when one cuts off another kite. It is spirited, young, energetic and metaphorically fitted the title slot of my film," he says. While the base remains the same, Kapoor changed sizeable chunks of the book, of course, with the author's nod. "For me, Govind Patel is the ultimate Indian boy in terms of thought, ambition and drive. He, along with other characters, was so irresistible. I had to explore all the characters further and bring them to life on screen," he says. The adaptation was a tricky process as a book can be written in many ways, and not every book can be made into a film. "What makes this book cine-worthy is its relevance," says Kapoor, whose believes that his changes have "added value to the story".

This is Bhagat's third book after Five Point Someone (filmed as Three Idiots) to be brought alive on silver screen. Ask Kapoor if he is being put on a comparing pedestral with Raj Kumar Hirani's treatment and approach in Three Idiots, and he says that his competition is to match Kai Po Che's success with that of Rock On! "I feel Chetan is yet to get his due from his peers and contemporaries. He is not out there to impress readers with his literary prowess, but with stories that are real and relevant," adds Kapoor.

The film has been produced by UTV and been shot in real locations in Vadnagar in Gujarat. It stars a fresh starcast that includes Sushant Singh Rajput who will make his debut with the film apart from Raj Kumar Yadav, Amit Sadh and Amrita Puri.

So what are the three mistakes of his life? "Ah, plenty! But I am glad I committed them. At that time it did seem like the end of the world, but what doesn't break you only makes you stronger. I guess we all need to make our mistakes as that's the way one gets through life," says Kapoor, who adds that his inspiration in filmmaking is Hollywood's real master storyteller, Clint Eastwood.

New actors have a lot to offer: Abhishek Kapoor

New Delhi:

Director Abhishek Kapoor says he has cast newcomers in his upcoming film 'Kai Po Che' to make the most of their talent, which is untouched by the glitz and glamour.

The film, which is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life', marks the debut of TV actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh. It also stars Raj Kumar Yadav and Amrita Puri.

"New actors have a lot to offer. They give you a certain kind of energy and purity. They are not stylised, they are not yet aware of the glitz and glamour and are capable of giving an honest, sensitive performance. I was quite taken aback by their performance," Kapoor told PTI.

"Even my last film 'Rock On' had new actors. Farhan (Akhtar) made his debut with it. There was Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Prachi Desai. Only Arjun Rampal was a well known actor. So, I think I have made a point by doing so," he added. 'Kai Po Che' portrays the journey of three friends as they discover cricket, religion and business in their respective fields. Set against the backdrop of religious politics, the story underlines the three mistakes made by Govind. The film as well as the book is set in Gujarat and has been shot in real locations in the state.

"When I read the book. I felt that this was the apt story of India because it has religion, politics, cricket and youth. It is the story of three boys from Gujarat, the dynamics of their friendship, dreams, love, conflict, sacrifices. "Although the film is based in Gujrat, it is meant for a pan India audience. Infact it is a film which represents our country beautifully and I hope that the global audience will get a taste of India after watching it," Kapoor said.

When asked if it was difficult to adapt a popular novel into a film, Kapoor said, "It was a difficult film to make and it took me almost three years to put this story together.

"Adapting a book into a film gets very difficult because you have to show everything in two or two and half hours. We could not keep everything in the film. But we have managed to retain most of the portions," he added. Kapoor made his directorial debut with 'Aryan' in 2006. His last film 'Rock On' was well received and also won the National award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 2009. "I am aware of the expectations after 'Rock On' was such a hit. Like 'Rock On', this too is about male bonding. While 'Rock On' was about urban life, music and dreams, 'Kai Po Che' is much wider," he said.

The promotions of 'Kai Po Che' will kick start in January. The film will hit theatres on February 22, 2013.
