Part 8
Meher wanted to forget that fateful day. Everything passed in a blur. She remembered the flam of th aarti. She remembered the cold touch of the her kumkum drenched feet touch the cold tile of the juneja mansion. She remembered her mothers warm hug, her father's smile and tired eyes, and heers tears of happiness and most of all she remembered Preet's stoic and solemn stance. The family left them alone in the giant Juneja House. Kulraj, Veera, Kiran, and even Harman went to stay at the mann house.
Meher couldn't understand what she was feeling at the moment- ws it anger, passion, love, frustration, regret, pain? She followed Preet in to his, now their, room. Her tears fell silently.
preet turned to her with guilt on his face. "Meher I am so sorry- I didnt realize all of this would have happened...."
"Preet, do you ever think? Zindagi tumhare liye toh ek game hai. " meher said shaking.
Preet grew angry. He had only kept her interests at heart,he did this so her bauji would be happy- so she would be happy. "Yeh sab toh main tumhare liye toh kara!" preet's voice boomed and his eyebrows crinckled.
"Har ladki ki yahi kwaish hai na ke ek ladka use majboori mein shaadi kare. tumhe toh shaadi ki matlab bhi nahi pata. Tum please yahan se chale jao."
Preet couldnt beleive meher. He headed downstairs for the bar. He poured the whiskey down his throat, the burning sensation distracting him from his sorrows.
Preet was unaware of his surroundings, he headed upstairs. He opened the door to find meher struggling to unbutton her blouse. She turned to see preet standing at the door. She was covering herself with her sari wen she felt his hand on her bare shoulder.
She looked at him with her large hazel eyes. She started to speak but he hushed her. She knew he wasn't in his senses, yet she didn't have the will to stop him. He slowly kissed her neck, then her shoulder, then he begn unbuttoning the rest of her blouse. She clung to him and he smiled.He ran his fingers down her back and she ruffled his hair. He led her to the bed.

The next morning
Meher woke up to see preet laying next to her. She blushed at the memory of the night before. However she wondered if it was a mistake. What if Preet didn't mean the events of the night before. Her thoghts were interrupted by the phone. Her mother had called to rush them over to the wedding venue for the preparations. After all, today was Prem-Heer's wedding. Meher ran into the shower and grabbed her small suitcase of clothing Heer had brought for her the night before. When she entered the room again she found preet awake. He was holding his head and she could tell he was in sheer pain. He looked up at her and she told him,"Let me get you something for that hangover..."
"Wait." preet said
"Meher, I dont remember much from last night but I remember fighting with you. i am sorry, I promise to fix this. "
Meher looked at him with shock," Is that all you remember?"
"i remember downing whiskey then everything else is blank. Why did something happen? Did we....?"
Meher could believe her luck. "No, nothing happened between us. You said you were hot so you took off your clothes and went to sleep. I slept in the guest room." meher lied. She then rushed out of the room before her tears could give her away.
Preet convinced the elders not to say anything to the guests, because it would have been strange for them to get married before Prem-Heer. The elders readily agreed.
Meher was torn inside as the day progressed, even preet had to feign beng his normal congenial self.
She dressed in a creme sari with silver beading. She curled the ends of her hair and adorned her hands with several chudiyaan. She rushed to get Heer ready.
Meher was pinning Heer's hair when Ash entered. "Waise Prem jiju looks fantastic Di, likin meri naazar toh Preet pe thi. He's so handsome and charming." ash said dreamily.
"Uh Ash I think you need to know this, Preet aur meher ne kal bhag kar shaadi kar li. " Heer said in a serious tone.
"Kya!? " Ash exclaimed. Heer went on to tell her that they didnt want anyone to know ntil Prem-Heer got married, and it would look bad since premheer were having such a grand wedding and they would be suspicious as to why preet-meher got married so quickly and the rumours that could surface.
Ash nodded and quickly hugged Meher. "I am so happy for you!" Ash exclaimed as she tried to hide her tears.
"I am so sorry Ash, I didnt realize you liked him..." meher said
"Oh Meher you know me, I have a different crush every week. Waise his brother harman isnt too bad either!" Ash giggled.
"Yeah, He has a girlfriend too..." Heer said
"Oh well. I'll find someone at this wedding. All of Ludhiana is here!" Ash squealed.
Meher and heer laughed.
Meher soon realized how was she to tell all her friends what she had done? She hadnt seen them since Heer's mehndi. She took a deep breath and decided to focus on Heer's hair.
The wedding ceremony passed slowly. Meher enjoyed helping with the aarti and getting money from meher. She, Ash, and her friends also hid the shoes, while Harman, Preet, and their friends began looking for them. Veera seemed somewhat nice today, although she still ignored meher. harman would leave no chance to tease preet-meher. "Tum dono ek dusre se itne door kyu kare ho, abhi ahi shaadi huwi hai aur abhi se jagda?" Harman said as he and kulraj laughed. Meher just blushed and mumbled an excuse about checking on the pooja saaman.
She rushed to an empt corner of the hall and leaned against a pillar. Her gaze darted around the hall as she looked at all the happy people laughing and enjoying themselves. She felt a hand on her shoulder, as someone whispered in her ear" Mujhe doond rahi ho?"
Meher froze.
