From the day she became friends with him, it was love that they both shared. But when he left for Canada, Heer had built up this certain fear inside her that he might change. What scared her even more was that when she met him a couple of days ago, he turned out to be exactly the way he had always been.
Heer couldn't understand if he was just showing off or not. But his eyes said it all to her. His eyes truly reflected her Prem, and now was the fact to accept her defeat in front of the man she had loved, still loved, and would forever love'..
::
The moment he felt her small fingers grip his wrist, a sudden flutter engulfed inside his heart. The mire contact of her soft skin on his made him feel as if he was the dry land and he was the water that was seeping through him. But the difference was that he was land and she wasn't water, it was the feeling of her that was seeping into his nerves and his cells all throughout his body.
Hiding the pathetic looking grin on his face, Prem turned around and looked at her. Beautiful as always! He didn't know how anyone had the control to stay away from such an angel.
But noticing her nervous eyes, he gave her a reassuring grin that conveyed to her that it was okay to share anything she had in mind with him.
::
All she needed was that smile to encourage what she had to say to him. And now was the time, before she lost him forever. She had to gets it out.
"Woh' mujhe'.mai'.tumse kuch..baat-" Heer had started off. But Gayatri's call for Prem made her stop midway. She lost the chance of talking to him.
Knowing that it wouldn't look right if they both steped out of the room together into the place full of guests, Heer decided to put aside the talk for now.
"Woh Choti Maa tumhe bula rahi hai." Heer said with a smile.
"Maine suna. Par tum kuch kehne wali thi naa. Kaho?" Prem asked curiously yet calmly.
"Hum baad me baat karenge. Tum jao'" Heer said, slightly pushing him towards the door.
"Lekin Heer-" Prem was about to protest but stopped when he saw the pleading look she gave him. Now how was he supposed to override that look? Giving her a smile, he headed to see where Gayatri was.
::
Heer watched him walk away. He was so different from all the people she has met so far. His innocence pours out of his eyes. His smile makes her heart flutter. His gaze upon her makes her shiver and blush.
She watched him as he listened to Gayatri's instructions to mingle around with the guests and help around in managing the caterers and waiters so that the guests are attended well.
She smiled seeing him work sincerely and willingly. But a sudden tap on the shoulder made her turn her attention to young and handsome Mr. Preet Juneja.
::
For the few seconds, he had watched Heer di simply stare at his brother in admiration. And he wasn't surprised that this was going to happen one day. After all, Prem was the first person who had told him about his love for Heer. And it was great to see that his brother's love was being returned by the best choice possible.
He gave Heer his sparkling smile when she looked at him. Putting his arm on her shoulder and coming close to her ear, he whispered something.
"Aab lagta hai ke pyar ka jadoo dono taraf se chal raha hai. Kyu Heer'..bhabhi'" Preet grinned upon saying this to her.
But one glare from Heer got him to straighten up and erase the idiotic smile from his face.
Heer grabbed is ear and gave it a slight twist.
"Aab aap please mujhe tang karna bhand karenge?" Heer asked a whining Preet whose ear was bring pulled for his mistake.
"Accha sorry'.sorry'.mai toh bas mazak kar raha tha'seriously'" Preet whined and Heer smiled while letting go.
Both of them smiled and switched their attention to their favorite person, Prem.
::
Heer watched him serve a few guests and her heart became full on joy and pride. This guy was ready to do anything that would bring a smile onto someone's face.
"Woh aap se bahot pyar karte hai Didi'" Preet whispered as he glanced at his elder brother.
Heer looked at Preet's face as she sensed the sadness in his voice. Little Preet looked at her and smiled though his eyes were filled with slight traces of tears.
"Aap janti hai. PB hamesha wahi karte hai joh Bade Papa, Dad aur Maa unhe kehti hai. Kabhi unki baat nahi talte. Lekin maine dekha hai ke jab unhe kuch pasand nahi atta aur unhe woh karma padta hai, phir bhi who karte hai. Apni khushi sab ke saath baat te hai aur sara dukh apne dil me chupa lete hai." Preet smiled at Heer through his tears.
Heer didn't know how to react. As a child she had seen little Prem caring side, but she never imagined that there was such a depth in his love and affection. What Preet told her really touched her heart and before she knew it, tears made their way into her eyes as well.
Preet looked at Heer and felt as if he needed to let what he wanted to say, out.
"Aap unka dil mat todna'" Preet whispered innocently and lowered his eyes.
Heer smiled at his cuteness. She admired the love that he felt for his brother. Taking a hold on his hand, she promised her loving little bro.
"Nahi todungi'..kabhi nahi todungi'" Heer smiled and wiped his tears away. She saw his face light up in happiness and he engulfed her into a tight hug. Even though Preet was a few inches taller then her, he sill had a soft heart of a 15 year-old boy who loved his brother.
::
From the corner of his eyes, he had seen the bond that had formed between his brother and the girl he loved to death. While he pretended to listen to the stories that Meher was blabbing about, he eyes only stayed on her. There was something different about her today.
She looked rather calm, relaxed, yet still a little sad about something. Her eyes weren't flickering the way they always were. There was something that she was holding back from. A thought came to him saying that he might have done something to upset her. And that's why he decided to talk to her when they got the time alone to themselves.
::
The time had come only when everyone had left from the Sangeet Party and headed for their own rooms. Prem was in Heer's room, standing in front of the mirror. Preet had already dozed off on the bed after the party ended, tired from all the dancing and rejoicing.
But Prem couldn't concentrate right now. He was staring at himself in the mirror, trying to think of ways by which he can talk to Heer. Glancing at the clock, he noticed that it was already 1:15 am. He took off his shawl and the sherwani and changed into a comfortable pair of sweatpants and t-shirt. Before hitting the bed himself, he decided to get a drink of water to satisfy his dry throat.
::
It was as if the unexpected was bound to happen. As he was drinking his water, he nearly spit it out at the site of her.
There she was, in her elegant form, sitting on the swing in the backyard. After carefully drinking the water and placing the glass away, he hesitantly made his way into the yard, through the back kitchen door.
As quietly as possible, he sneaked out of the house. But one look at her graceful form and he was a dead man for sure. He instantly stopped in his tracks when he saw her. She still hadn't changed from her beautiful lehenga/choli. But her wrists were empty and all her jewelry was off. Her once open hair was now tied into a high ponytail and she had her glittering dupatta draped around her as if to shield her from the late night chills.
The swing was moving by the force of the wind and she had her feet pulled up close to her body, hugging them tightly.
His eyes burned like fire as he examined her soft, creamy skin under the blue moonlight. Her face was the only thing that his eyes demanded to look at. Her head rested softly on her knees, her eyes were slightly closed, her bangs fiddled with her face, and a light frown was resting on her lips. She looked at peace but he somehow felt the thing that was eating up her thoughts. He felt as if she was scared of something, of losing something. And yet, he didn't know how to console her.
His steps slowly approached her in the attempt to tell her that it was late and she was still outside. But he didn't know how she would react. He watched her closely upon nearing her and his heart just let out a leap. How can a 16-year-old girl look so beautiful and graceful? How can she erupt so many feelings inside him and turn him into a crazy lover?
He turned his face away from her so as to not jinx her innocent beauty. As he fought an inner battle to wake her up or not, he felt her soft finger entwine his wrist. He instantly looked at her and found a slightly-smiling Heer, patting on the place next to her. Smiling at her invitation to sit besides him, he decided to lighten her mood.
"Aggar mai behtunga toh yeh toot toh nahi jayega?" Prem whispered to her teasingly.
This instantly made her smile and the sparkle in her eyes returned.
"Nahi tootega'.tum betho'" Heer whispered back rather softly. Smirking at her, he took the seat.
For a few minutes, it was complete silence. But it was Heer who broke the ice. She straightened up and put her feet on the ground.
"I'm sorry." She simply said in a subtle tone. Prem looked at her and didn't know why she was feeling sorry.
"Tum jaante ho, jab maine tumhe dekha tha, tab se mai tumhe samaj hi nahi payi hu." She said and she looked at him. Prem smiled at her.
"Tum bilcul waise hi nikle jaise maine socha tha. Ekdum shant, well-behaved, respectful, and caring. Lekin hamesha daar lagta tha ke tum sach me aisa ho ya phir koi dikhawa kar rahe ho. Pata nahi kyu mai asia sochne lagi? Lekin mera dil hamesha kehta tha ke tum kabhi badal nahi sakte." Heer grinned at a chuckling Prem who found it funny that she thought he was acting.
"Toh aab kya lagta hai tumhe. Natak kar raha hu, ke sach me aisa hi hu?" Prem asked cheekily.
Heer smiled at him and answered.
"Tum bahot ache ho." Heer said in a tone full of love for him.
"Woh toh mai jaanta hi hu. Lekin woh kya haina, aapko samajne mai kuch zyada hi waqt lagta hai." Prem chuckled as he saw Heer gape.
Heer playfully hit his shoulder.
"Achha sorry'sorry." Prem said to her. And the very next moment, they both fell into a fit of laughter.
"Jab sila ho hi gayi hai toh phir mujhse dosti karogi?" Prem held out his hand to her. And without wasting a moment, she willing it placed her hand in his.
The mire touch of the hands was enough for the fluttering feeling to come again and excite the heart. Prem noticed the awkwardness she felt and left her hand gently.
"Waise bahot raat ho chuki hai. Tum so jao." Prem said as he got up. Heer smiled and they both headed to their own rooms. After saying goodnight to each other, they felt as if a huge burden had been taken off their hearts.
Prem had gained her trust and Heer had let out her thoughts. Friendship had now bounded them together in the world while the bond of love between them strengthened.

The next day, the evening had been a hasty one. The Mann farmhouse was a complete chaos with the mehndi preparations that were to be held at night. Early next morning, Kulraj was to get married to Kiran Bakshi and leave the household. Kulraj's last full day was to be made into a memorable one.
All the ladies had settled themselves in the spacious backyard that was decorated for the Mehndi function for the evening. Prem had taken the responsibility for getting all the decorations done for the tent that was built up outside. Balraj had been overwhelmed with his proposal. Balraj had watched Prem put up the drapes and drill down the tent along with the workers himself. His smile found no bound to knowing that his best friend had grown up to be such a ideal human being for everyone. At an age when he expected Prem to care less about any of this, Prem had proven him 101% wrong. He was what he had always been. The BEST!
As Balraj walked into his yard along with Lalit and Balwant, his tears found their way out of his eyes. The decorations were beautiful and so well thought of. The vibrant orange and green draperies/decorations gave of a radiant shade as their colors reflected off from the evening sunlight. The royal seating arrangements caught Balraj's attention as he walked around the inside of the tent. Balraj gave a grateful smile to both Balwant and Lalit who smiled back in return. This function was going to be a memorable one.

By 6:30 in the evening, all the guests and relatives had arrived and the mehndi function was on the start. Kulraj was seated in the middle of all the ladies with Gayatri doing mehndi on her one hand and Sujata (her mother-in-law) doing the mehndi on her other hand.
Maya, Shabnam, and Sanjana were busying getting their mehndi done along with Meher. They were sitting al around a blushing Kulraj.
The men were having their own little party inside the house with light drinks and cocktails. Waiters were buzzing here and there with soft drinks, juices, and fresh hot samosas and kachoris. The atmosphere was loud, pleasant, and very joyful.

Knowing Prem's nature, her order was accepted even before she thought about telling him. He just understood everything so well that one didn't need to tell him what was right to do and what wasn't.
After taking a relaxing shower for 15-20 minutes, Prem came out of the bathroom with his pair of jeans on and a towel that was wiping off his wet torso and his silky hair. But yet once again, he managed to bump into her. Another awkward moment was on the way.
