Happy Birthday S! This one's for you:)
It started off as a One shot; I kept adding and editing (and adding and editing) until I looked at it last night and clutched my hair!!!!! It was no longer a one shot; so I decided to divide it into chapters. And there are 10 of them. I was contemplating whether to post it all at one go or a couple at a time and B suggested I should post a Chapter a day. And I think that's a COOL idea! (Thanks B!*hugs*) So, here's Chapter 1.
Sigh! I wanted it to be so special……Sigh!!!! Hope you like it S!
Here it is though! And another thing, I've had to add in names (so made all that up! What's in a name right!😆)
Happy 16th S! Have a Blast!
And a very very very big thank you to B! For proofing! And for the help! Gosh, you deserve an award for that! *zillion hugs*
Ever Ever After
Chapter 1
"Mommy," a little voice asked sleepily, "Did the prince and princess live happily ever after?" Little Shabz was finding it really difficult to keep her eyes open but she wanted to know how this story ended. She missed the little smile exchanged between her parents.
"Yes, my darling," her mother told her, fondly tousling her hair, "They lived happily ever after."
Little Shabz smiled and hugged her beloved stuffed Roo. "See, Pebbles, they lived happily ever after," she sang into her ear.
"Pebbles is thrilled," she told her parents, wanting to hold on to this moment as long as she could. She loved it when her parents tucked her in every night.
"Pebbles is sleepy," her father bent over and kissed her, "and so are you, my princess. Good night! Sleep tight!"
"Wake bright," murmured her mother, "Good night darling."
"And you won't let the bed bugs bite…." murmured little Shabz sleepily, her eyelids fluttering close, her little arm clutching Pebbles to her heart.
Her mother pulled the blankets over her little darling and watched as the little girl drifted off into slumber, an angelic smile on her face.
"Come love, let's head off. The others are meeting us at Sir Harry's in a bit."
"Yes darling, let me get my wrap," his wife walked away, casting a last glance at her sleeping daughter.
"Daddy," little Shabz opened an eye and asked her father hopefully, "Will I also have a happily-ever-after?"
Her father paused at the door, one hand on the door knob and glanced behind affectionately, "You will, my Princess! I promise. You will!"
Little Shabz drifted off to sleep, delighted that she would, like the princesses in the tales her mother read to her each night, have a happily-ever-after. Daddy had said she would. And Daddy was never wrong!
………………………..
"Which story would you like me to tell you tonight, sweetheart?" The elegant lady put her arm around her little six year old as she sat next to him on his bed.
"The one about the Quest, Mamma. The one with the Knight, the Dragon and the Princess," said the little boy cheerfully, not looking in the least sleepy.
"But I told you that one last night," his mother told him, smiling.
"I loved that story so much Mamma. I wanna hear it again," he looked up at her pleadingly.
"Are you ready to leave Gayatri?" His father strode into the room and looked at his mother, "Remember we have to meet the Archibalds and the Kapoors in a bit. If we get an early start, there's something I'd like you to see."
"Father, you came to wish me goodnight," the little boy sat up happily, his eyes shining. Father never came to tuck him in. What a treat!
"You ought to be sleeping, boy. It's way past your bedtime," his father told him gruffly. "You are going to a new school tomorrow. Have you forgotten?"
"No, father," the little boy answered softly, "I remember. But Mamma's just going to tell me a story."
"Gayatri, you spoil the boy with these fairy tales. How many times have I told you not to plant these fanciful ideas in his head?"
"Lalit, you go on ahead. I want to read him this story and I'll join you in the hotel lounge in a bit," his mother said quietly. He thought his mother sounded sad and that made him feel very unhappy.
His father walked out without saying goodnight and he looked up at his mother anxiously, his eyes filling with tears, "Father doesn't like me Mamma! Why doesn't he like me Mamma? Am I not a good boy?"
His mother hugged him fiercely, "You are the best little boy in the world, my darling. Your father loves you. We both love you very very much. Mamma loves you more than anything in the world." She wiped his eyes and kissed him.
The little boy looked up at his mother. A tear was rolling down her cheek and he lifted his hand and wiped it away, "Why are you crying Mamma? Please don't cry."
"Then, my sweetheart, remember, you must never cry. Mamma can't help crying if she sees you crying darling. Promise Mamma you will never cry again."
"I won't cry Mamma. I promise," he told her seriously and she hugged him close, murmuring, "My little knight."
She told him the story, enjoying the expressions on his adorable face as she told him of the brave knight who battled a fierce dragon and rescued the beautiful Princess Zee.
"Am I a knight Mamma?" he asked her, his eyes heavy with sleep but determined to fight it all the way.
She nodded, "The bravest and the handsomest knight ever!"
He smiled, thrilled to the core. "Yay! Then can I save Princess Zee?"
"Yes, you can save Princess Zee. In fact, promise Mamma you will save her." He smiled, nodding. "Now it's time to sleep, my darling. I'll be taking you to your new school tomorrow." She bent to kiss him goodnight.
He held an arm out for his pet dragon and she plonked it next to him.
"Draco is a good dragon Mamma. Not like the one in the story," he told her sleepily. She patted his head.
"Sleep well, my love."
She turned at the threshold and looked back at him before turning off the lights. "I also love you more than anything Mamma," he told her softly in his baby voice and she felt her heart swell and fill with happiness. He was really the best little boy in the world. She had to talk to Lalit again. The boy was getting affected by his father's continuing indifference.
Little Preet drifted into sleep, his dreams punctuated with dragons and knights, happy and content.
