That's because I had stopped watching KDMHMD a long time back. I heard that the story has taken some leap so thought maybe give it another try!!!

It's a bit uncanny that we share the first three love stories! They are truly great! Actually I'm surprised by 'wuthering heights'! As very few people love this story! But the madness, craziness, despair, depth everything about love can be found in this story! The other two, twelfth night and beauty and the beast are really sunny stories. I can't tell you how many times I have watched B and B. I too love the Beast but only in the cartoon form!!!

wow! it's cool that we share this. actually, it surprises me more that you like ''12th night''. lots of people think of catherine and healthcliffe as the ultimate doomed lovers, i thought. there is just no denying the madness of their love, no? they deliberately choose lives to destroy themselves and the other. and both of them stand back and watch the outcomes of those deliberate action. actually, it's a nice compare-and-contrast with prem and heer, no? c&h are soooo not the way to want to go with live - while p&h is something that we may secretly actually want? 😆

which non-cartoon beast have you seen? i've seen a really old french version and a really old (slightly cheesy) english version -- and actually ended up loving the beast in those as well. although -- to concur with you -- no where as much as i loved the disney beast... 😍

ha..ha.. I didn't know that you know me that well!!! To tell you the truth 12th night did not appeal to me as the greatest love story, but I liked it out of all the shakespear's work. It was a light read. And the first time when I read it, it was a very beautiful summer so maybe there were other factors contributing to my liking this fiction!!!

Wuthering heights is comparable with Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's Devdas. In this story Devdas and Paro are the doomed lovers. They could have got married but their egos came on the way, Devdas deliberately chose a path of self-destruction and dies in the end. Paro also suffered like Catherine, she does not die but suffers in a loveless-marriage. I did not like the movies, but the book is outstanding.

The other powerful love-story is Pride and Prejudice. Just loved the characters Elizabeth and Darcy. Actually they are my all time favorites. I can just read that book 100th time!

i like p&p too... but no where as much as wuthering... or jane-eyre! jane-eyre's mr. rochester sooo owned my heart (before prem and his heer came along... 😆)

I somehow could not like Jane Eyre, she gets Rochester but only when he's blind. To me Rochester also seemed a little selfish. Well actually I had read the book long time back, and that's the impression I had got at that time! Compared to that Darcy's love was totally selfless and I just like the fact that he fell in love so reluctantly! That's the power of love that sometimes you fall in love even though you don't want to, even when your brain is giving you some other signals!!! And once he was in love, even a blunt refusal from Lizzy did not stop him from loving. He did not harbour any ill-feeling for her for her refusal. That's pure, unadulterated selfless love!

I grew up listening to our desi love stories especially if you are from Punjab you will hear them a lot, they have inadvertently become a part of our culture, hence they are my favorites

My number one on the list if Mirza-Sahiban – I was maybe 5 when I heard about them and fell in love with their story immediately. It could be due to the fact that during the scene when Sahiban breaks Mirza's arrows I could understand her predicament, on one side it was her brothers whom she loved dearly and on the other was the man she wanted to marry. I am very close to my brothers hence I would probably do what she did. Sahibaan many a times in Punjab has been called a disgrace to lovers but people fail to see her side of the story. Another fact is that out of all the famous love stories this is the only one where the guy's name comes first.

Next on my list is Heer-Ranjha- This is the greatest of Indian love stories but it's second on my list. This is another one I have heard as a child, in fact I have read the whole version written by Waris Shah it's a hard read but very enjoyable, I absolutely love Waris Shah's poetry and his love for Heer, however it is believed that Waris Shah had changed the ending, not many know that Heer Ranjha were a real life love story and had actually lived unlike Waris Shah's Heer-Ranjha who died in the end. This happens to be my cousins favorite love story, so much so that she has named her daughter Heer. Out little Heer has yet to read about Heer-Ranjha and for some odd reason I want to be the first to tell her.

Incase you all are curious the tombs of Heer-Ranjha lie in the city of Jhang, Punjab, Pakistan

There are several other love stories but these are my absolute faves.
