"Hey Preet," Sanjana cooed as Manav walked to where she sat. Shabo gave him a very dirty look and he began to blush when he saw Maddy.
"Hey, Maddy," he said quietly. This caused Sanjana to scoot closer to Maddy even though she returned her gaze to Preet, who stood in the middle of the floor looking at Sanjana and her girl before setting into the stool next to Shabo.
"Gimme some of that," he said, taking Shabo's spoon and proceeding to eat her ice cream. Maddy flashed a quick look at me and right then I decided that even if Maddy and I couldn't have love in our lives, I was going to make sure Shabo had some.
Sanjana didn't take too kindly to Preet sitting with the enemy. Her face drew itself into a frown and her sidekicks were quiet.
"Preet, we were just taking about the big dance coming up." Sanjana said outloud placing a hand over Manav's. Preet smiled at me easily and pushed Shabo's empty dish towards me and I filled it with more chocolate.
"Yeah?" Preet asked.
"Yeah." Sanjana cooed again. "You're going to ride in our limo right?"
Shabo snorted. "Umm...Sanjana there are no limos here."
"You going?" Preet poked Shabo in the ribs. Maddy's eyes grew wide.
"Please," Shabo laughed. "I'd rather go in the limo with Sanjana." Then she quickly glanced back and forth between me and Preet. I recognized that look. It was the look she got when she was coming up with a master plan. "But you know what? Were you going?"
"I don't know. No date." He said with a giant gleaming smile. Sanjana's spoon clattered onto the floor.
"You should go with Meher." Shabo's voice got very excited.
"What?" I asked. "No, I'm not going now," I stage-whispered to her.
"You have to go with somebody! You can't just let Harman go with that girl and not be there to stop it! And you can't go without a date."
"She's got a point, you know," Maddy chimed in. "And I do have the dress all set."
"Preet, I don't want to go anymore. So, don't worry."
Preet took a bite of the ice cream and smiled at me. "Come on, Meher. Don't be chicken. I'll take you. It'll be fun."
"Meher, you gotta fight fire with fire," Manav added earning himself a slap on the shoulder from Sanjana.
I looked back and forth between Manav and Preet. I didn't know what to say. Everything was happening so fast, I couldn't keep up. I was vaguely aware though, of how Sanjana and her devil were staring at me, clearly waiting to hear what I was going to say.
Shabo leaned forward and whispered. "It'll drive Sanjana crazy if you with Preet,"
I don't if Preet knew Sanjana liked him but he heard what Shabo said and didn't dispute it. In fact, his grin got wider, if that was possible. I looked at Maddy quickly hoping she would give me a sign. We both wanted Shabo to date someone and Preet was the only guy she seemed even mildly interested in. Wasn't I sabotaging this possible love match if I went with him?
"There's no way you'd want to go right Shabo?"
"Please...no."
Maddy nodded at me.
"Okay."
"Yeah?" Preet asked.
"Its a date,"
Preet stood on his stool and came around to give me a quick hug. "Yeah! One date with me Meher and you'll forget all about that loser anyways," Shabo shot a triumphant smile at Sanjana who choked on her ice cream.
Me? I was just hoping I made the right choice.
How was that one? 😳 Now that Preet's taking her—let's see what happens after!😛
Love,
Meera
