The small girl was sitting on her father's lap. Even at such a small age, she looked just as stubborn and just as cute as her father. They always said that girls were closer to their fathers, looking at these two precious gifts that life had given her, Heer believed it. She smiled at her husband who was trying to teach their 2-month old daughter how to say "papa", even as she smiled, the picture blurred and before she could even move a muscle, her daughter was gone' Vanished'
She sat up in bed, just about managing not to scream. Drenched in sweat, she turned around and looked at the wall clock which was telling her that it was 4.00 'o' clock in the morning. She sighed wearily and climbed out of the bed. This was not the first time Heer had had this dream. The worst part of it was that she could always see it so vividly, even after waking up' unlike any other dream that she had ever had. This was mainly the reason, why Heer had kept herself so busy for the past week.
She knew that it had not been kind of her to keep Prem and the other family members as far away from her as possible, but if she did let them in on her feelings now, she knew that guilt would kill them, especially Ma and Prem. It had been the hardest of all to keep herself from going over to Prem and throwing herself in his arms. Every time he had tried to come close to her, she had avoided him, with the excuses of cleaning wardrobes and clothes, so much so that she was running out of dirty wardrobes, and pending work. She had come down into the kitchen by now. But her initial plan of finding some work there vanished instantly as she stared around at the spotless kitchen.
She sighed again and set to work making tea, she had always believed that there was no other thing like drinking first-class strong tea in the middle of the night.
"Heer?" she turned around to look at a puffy-eyed Prem who was trying to rub the sleep out of his eyes while at the same time managing to look at her with a 'have-you-gone-even-crazier?' expression.
"Oh actually I couldn't sleep, so I thought I would'"
"Find some more work to wear myself out?" he asked"Honestly Heer, why don't you just trust me for once and tell me what is going on with you? I know it's hard, but why are you so intent on making it even harder for yourself? I cannot see you like this Heer, Please, it's like some physical pain to me, and'"he had come closer to her while saying this, and cupped her face in his hands.
"No Prem. Just' Please'''" she said, the tears evident in her voice, but her eyes still not showing even a trace of them. She turned around and took the tea off the gas. Pouring it in a mug, she turned to look at him again," Prem, go to sleep. You have a big day at the hotel tomorrow' and you'll need your strength' I'll wake you up at the right time'"
"Heer, Please'"
"No Prem, you cannot help' just go to sleep'" and saying this she turned away.
She could feel him hesitate for a while, and then walk out of the kitchen. Once she was sure that he had left, she sat down at the table and cursed herself for not being able to give him his love and his right back.

Harman watched as Meher tried in vain to make Preet drink milk. Her rosy cheeks, getting even redder with exasperation at her husband's obstinacy. He sighed inwardly at the thought that it could have been him, in Preet's place, with such a lovely and caring wife.
"Preet! If you don't drink this milk right away then I am going to pour it over your head!" she said.
"Ha! As if!" he scoffed and pecked her cheek before taking off. She reddened, and crying his name in exasperation and embarrassment took off after her husband.
Harman sighed again, cursing his own stupidity and fate.

Meher was still red in the face, and she knew that it was not because she had been running around after Preet for the past half an hour, but because of what had happened at the dining table. She couldn't imagine why such a simple thing as a peck on the cheek from Preet could make her feelings go into turmoil.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Preet couldn't believe what he had done. It had been a spur on the moment act of his, just seeing those rosy cheeks made him do what he had done.
He shook his head and smiled as he sat in his car waiting for Prem Bhaiya to come down so they could go to work. However, his smile was instantly wiped off, when he saw his Bhaiya's face. He knew that Heer Bhabhi's condition was the main concern on his brother's mind and decided to let him in on the secret. "Prem Bhaiya' come here, I want to tell you something''" after he had finished telling him Meher's plan, he was relieved to see the smile that lit up on his brother's face.
"That's an intelligent girl you've got for a wife Preet" Prem beamed.
