Chapter 29

Prem came back to his senses and realized his action, slowly letting heer go. To justify his actions, he mumbled, "woh'main'woh khushi'" To escape the awkward situation they both were in, she said, "tum fresh hojao'main khaana laaga dehthi ho," she said and walked out of the room blushing. Prem ran his hand through his hair and grinning, went to change.

In the other room, someone was staring at the laptop screen which was also stared back at him. She had promised that she will email him but it has been two days and there was no sign of an email anywhere soon. I should have acquired her email id'I am so stupid, he thought. As he kept staring, a window blinked into view and read "new email." A big smile appeared on his face and he clicked on the box. As soon as he saw that it was just a "junk" email, his smile drooped down. He again waited'.the box opened again'and seeing the email he had been waiting for from the past two days'his smile crawled back on his face.

Downstairs, heer warmed up the food and was arranging it on the table when prem walked in, dressed in a white kurta pajama. "tumne kaaliya?" he asked with concern. "woh'aap khaalijiye'phir main," she replied. "kya?...tumne aabhi khaya nahi'tum yaha baito..baito," he said as he pulled a chair out and made her sit on. "par'tum," she hesistated. "main kuch nahi sunna chatha," he kindly commanded. He served her first, then served him too. "heer'main kuch kehna chatha ho'woh mujhe aaj bahut late hogaya'aur tume bhi itni dher tak wait karna paada' I am really sorry," he apologized sincerely. "its ok prem'aur waise bhi tumne kaha thaana keh hum dost hain'toh dosti mein no sorry'no thank you..ok," she said. "theek hain'aabh chalo'khaana khathe hain'mujhe bahut bhoog lagi hain," he stated and they ate their food together.

Preet clicked on the message and this is what the message read:

Subject: Hi New Friend

Message: hi preet'sorry woh yaha pichle doh dino se weather bahut kaarab tha'aur current nahi tha'issliye main tume email nahi karsakhi. Par mujhe ek bath poochna hai'I mean tum yaha doh hafte the'par tume dosti tab karni thi'jab tum plane chadne jaarahe the. Anyways...aabh hum dosti hai'issliye mujhe meri naye dost ke baare mein jaana hain'so tell me something in your email and you can ask me anything you want to know about me too.

Preet smiled'she was right'they just became friends without even knowing anything about each other'well now they will. Even though they were seven seas away'.these emails will keep their friendship alive'he then hugged the laptop and fell asleep, content.

Next morning, prem and heer were late in waking up since they have gone to bed late last night. They both hurriedly got dressed and joined the family at the breakfast table. Breakfast was already laid on the table and Gayatri was kitchen finishing up the last details. Heer took lalit's ashirwaad and went in the kitchen to talk to gayatri. She took and ashirwaad and confessed, "sorry ma'woh aaj paata nahi kaise itni dher hogayi." Gayatri smiled back and said, "aree'kohi baat nahi'tum toh kal raat bhi dher tak prem ka wait karahi thi'chalo'breakfast karte hain." Heer nodded and they both walked back to the dining room. At the same time, lalit asked prem, "prem'woh contract kya hua?" prem put up a somber look on his face and replied, "woh'babuji'who'kya haina'contract hume milgaya," he said and started to laugh. "badmaash'main jaantha tha keh yeh contract tujhe hi milega'I proud of you beta," he said and they both hugged. Everyone was congratulating prem when gayatri and heer walked in. "kya baat hain'tum saabh itne khush ho?" gayatri asked the family. Prem walked up to her and replied, "maa'mujhe contract milgaya," as he hugged her. "saach!...jeeta rahe," she happily responded as she pecked his forehead. Then the family enjoyed breakfast together. As everyone was finishing up breakfast, lalit stated, "mujhe tum sabhko ek surprise dena hain!" gayatri and kiran knowingly smiled; whereas, everyone else was confused at what surprise was he talking about. "aaj shaam'hume prem aur heer ka reception rakha hain," he happily announced. Everyone was happy, but prem questioned his dad, "par babuji'mujhe toh office main." "tu office se jaldi aayega," gayatri intervened him. "par maa'office main kaam hain," prem complained. "par'var'kuch nahi jaanthi main'aur tujhe yaad haina tera vaada joh tune kiya tha," she reminded him. Prem agreed since he can't break his promise, "theek hai maa'main jaldi aaunga," he told her. Then turned to heer and whispered, "main chal tha ho," and left for office. Kiran went up to lalit, "accha babuji'main bhi jaake saari tayaari check karle tha ho," he said and was about to leave when Kulraj stopped him. "tume pata tha?" she questioned. "ha'woh babuji ne meri upar zimedaari deehain prem keh reception ki," he replied. "aur tumne mujhe baataya kyun nahi?" she asked seriously. "woh kya haina Kulraj'tumara pait mein toh kohi bhi baat zyada dher tak tikthi nahi na'isssliye," he said mischievously as everyone laughed. "accha'yeh baat hain'tume na main dekh lungi," she said and left to wake up vishaal and tannu. Kiran smiled and left bidding everyone bye.

Meher who finished her breakfast, complained to gayatri, "par maa'itni jaldi'main kya painugi?" "ha maa'agar aap phele baatha the toh meher jaake full shopping karti'time aur paise waste karti'haina meher," preet sarcastically stated. "very funny," meher replied as she slightly punched preet while everyone chuckled at them. "meher'tere paas toh itne saare dresses hain'ek aacha sa choose karlena," gayatri told her daughter. "yehi toh problem haina maa keh itne saare hain," meher replied while everyone laughed. "idea!....bhabhi aap mujhe dress select karna help karenge," she asked heer. "ha meher'kyun nahi?" heer replied. "aur ha bhabhi'aaj reception kehliye'main aap ko tayaar karongi," meher added. Heer nodded and smiled. "dekhe bhabhi'reception mein aane se phele'mirror mein check karlijiye ga'warna aap bhi waise hi dekhogi jaise meher har function mein dikthi hain'usske make-up se saath," preet taunted his sister. Everyone burst out laughing as meher started to chase preet. "main tume chodongi nahi," meher yelled as she chased preet. Gayatri tried to stop meher but she wouldn't listen. Lalit also tried but it didn't work. Seeing them, heer remembered the times when she used to chase ash just like this. She wiped the lone tear as it was about to escape her eye before anyone else could notice. She had been trying to call India from the past two days but something was wrong with the line. She has been worrying from the past two days and hoped that they were all fine there. "main phir aaj phone karongi," she thought, "par phele inn dono ko rokna padega," she smiled seeing meher and preet. Heer stood up and tried to stop meher, "meher'meher ruk jao." Preet ran up behind heer and hid himself, "bhabhi baacho'please save me," he appealed her. "you better come out'bhabhi aap atjayiye," meher told heer. "nahi bhabhi'please maat atiye'warna yeh mujhe maaregi," preet told heer. "meher'preet koh chodo," heer said again. "nahi'bhabhi aap aato," meher said. "meher'tume dress select karni thina'chalo'chalthe hai," heer said and took meher to go up the stairs. Meher turned around and stuck her tongue out before leaving with heer.

Preet laughed at her and left too. "yeh bacche bhi na," gayatri said. "sach gayatri'Heer ne toh naayi khushiya laayi hain iss ghar mein," lalit stated happy to have a bahu like her. "ha'yeh baat toh sahi kaahi aapne'par paata nahi mere beta koh khab akal aayegi," gayatri worried. "tum aisa kyun keh rahi ho gayatri?" asked a confused lalit. "aur nahi toh kya'abhi abhi shaadi hoye hain aur yeh ladkha hain keh office aur files ke peeche paada hain'pata nahi khab sudrega yeh," she stated. "tum fikar kyun karthi ho'prem aapni zimeedari se khabhi peeche nahi aatega'tum dekhna dheere dheere sabh theek hojayega," lalit comforted a worried gayatri. She smiled back and said, "shayad aap theek kehrahe hain." "accha'aapne venue aur invitations'saabh dekhliya haina?" she inquired about the reception preparations. "ha gayatri'sabh taayar hogaya hain'kiran gaya hain saari preparations dekhne," lalit let gayatri know.

Heer and meher were walking to meher's room when heer turned to meher and said, "meher'mujhe kuch kaam hai'tum jao'main aabhi aatiho." Meher agreed and left. Heer went to her room and dialed the phone to India. The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. as he was going to hang up, "hello," ash answered panting. "ash'.sabh theek toh haina'doh dino se phone karahi ho," heer said concerned. "heer'.kaisi ho?....sabh theek hai'.woh doh dino se mausam bahut kaarab thaana'issliye," ash answered. "sabh kaise hain'baba'tum..aur sabh?" heer asked. "aree'sabh theek hain'baba bhi'aur alisha bhi delhi chaligayi'tumari bahut yaad aati hain," ash told sadly. "mujhe bhi tum logoki bahut yaad aati hain," heer replied as tears filled her eyes. "heer'please rona mat'accha Baba se bath kar," ash said as she saw balraj coming her way and handed him the phone. Heer quickly wiped her tears and said, "baba'kaise hain aap?" "main theek ho beta'tum kaisi ho?...prem aur ghar mein sabh kaise hain?" balraj asked her. "sabh acche hain'maa babuji ne aaj reception rakha hain," heer informed him. "yeh toh bahut acchi baat hain beta," balraj replied happily. Then heer talked with balraj, ash and some kids of the ashram and hung up the phone. She sat down on the bed, missing her family, as tears flowed down her cheeks.
