Teji was quite an old fashioned woman, with out-dated beliefs. Whatever she had learned as a child was passed down to her own children as well. She had informed Ash and Heer before that having boyfriends was a big taboo, and if anyone saw them hanging around in public with boys then it would raise a stir of gossip within the community. To a certain level Heer did obey her mother's orders and her beliefs began to rub off on her, she never really had friends that where boys and now didn't know what it was like to be friends with a boy. She had always been surrounded by girls since she did attend an all girl's school. Ash on the other hand was a girl with modern beliefs, she still respected Teji by following her orders but understood herself that it was the twenty-first century and the whole "don't make friends with guys" thing wasn't practical.

Teji felt that Heer was reaching the age where it was time for her to get married; she feared that if her daughter got any older it would become difficult to find suitors. Her daughter was twenty-three, and Teji thought it was time to discuss this with Heer. Ash would be next on Teji's list but she wouldn't be approached anytime soon since she was only twenty-one.

It was a Saturday morning, and sitting the dining table there where Heer and Teji. Gaytri was busy in the kitchen. Ash was gone to work, considering that she was promoted she had more responsibility at work. Nihaal in his study doing the usual, Prem locked in his room studying, and Preet playing Playstation on the third floor of the house.

Heer was in the process of dipping a cookie into her chai while Balraj and Lalit where sitting in the living room discussing how they should work together as a partnership. Teji looked up at Heer, trying to organize her thoughts and decide how to structure her sentence without scaring Heer off.

"Heer beta, main aup se kuch baat karna chahati thi," Teji firmly announced.

"Ji ma," Heer answered looking at her mother to continue.

"Aup ab bari ho gayi ho, mujhe lagta hai ki ab aup ki shaddi ki umar hogayi hai."

Heer rolled her eyes up to the heavens and sighed. "Gosh mom, seriously, just please don't start this,"

Gaytri entered the room with a jug of juice.

"Beta aup ki umar ab barti jaa rahi hai, jab aup bhuddi ho jaogey to aup se shaadi kaun karega," Teji began to reason.

"Ma please, don't worry about me, and just drop this subject. I'm not ready for that kind of commitment,'' despite her irritation with the subject, Heer remained composed and calmly answered back.

This set Teji off, how can her daughter say that she wasn't ready for commitment, in her day once a girl's marriage was fixed, it was fixed, no one asked if the girl was ready or not. All this commitment talk was rubbish to her ears. They began to argue. Although Heer was angry she didn't want to hurt her mother's feelings or say anything disrespectful so she exited the conversation and left the dining room.

Gaytri advanced forward to placed her hand on Teji's shoulder, ''Didi, aup zabardasti se Heer ka mann nahi badal sakti, apni bachi par vishwaas rak, jab wo tayaar hogi to khud aup ki paas chali aayegi.''

This didn't calm Teji, she began to worry, ''Mein chup kaise beet sakti hoon, mujhe shuroo karni hogi, un ki liye lardka dhoond na,'' it was obvious by her tone that she was determined.

Heer went downstairs to the game room which was beside Ash's mini dance studio. Preet's expression was intense, he was totally engulfed in the game, his forehead wrinkled and back hunched over the controller.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh shit!" he exclaimed.

Having Preet around felt like she had a little brother. Heer giggled, "calm down it's just a game,"

"I know, but ahh was on a roll..." shaking his head, "Ohh well, so what's up, why so glum chum,"

"I'm not glum, just parents can be so pushy sometimes,"

"Don't get me started on mine, you should be like me, in one ear and out the other," Preet acted out the statement, pointing to his ears.

Heer chuckled and shook her head with a 'you shouldn't do that' kind of a look.

"So what do you guys do for fun around here, I mean let's go out and party tonight, It's getting so boring sitting in the house... I'm not use to this,"

"You want to go out... that's not a bad idea actually, we where meaning to go out to celebrate Ash's promotion anyways,"

Preet nodded in agreement, "Awesome then, tonight it is, I'll let PB know... it might be a little hard to get him to come since he's so lost in his books, but I've got my ways,"
