Part 21
This is for Sonali...Thanks for encouraging me HUN..I LOVE YOU SO MUCHH<3<3
Amidst the rush of getting ready for the engagement and the wedding of Heer and Prem, everyone had forgotten to buy a dress for the bride and groom. Gayatri realized that the jewelry and the turban for Heer and Prem had arrived'
"Preet'Preet", she screamed across the hall, "Where is Prem and Heer's dress for the engagement'and tomorrow is the wedding'where is the dress for the two occasions?"
Preet had been busy calling the guest and getting work done from the people who were decorating the house and Prem's room especially. Lalit was busy getting the ring that Prem had ordered for Heer and Gayatri was making sure that everything was in order for the wedding. Dadaji was getting caterers to make their traditional Punjabi feast for the Mehndi ceremony and Indian feast for the Shaadi.
"What' IS HEER ONLY GOING TO WEAR JWELERY AND COME TO HER OWN WEDDING WITHOUT A DRESS? AND IS PREM ONLY GOING TO WEAR A TURBAN'HOW COME I AM THE ONlY ONE NOTICING THESE THINGS'MY SON'MY ELDER SON IS GETTING MARRIED..I NEED IT TO BE SPECIAL'kuch nahi hoga tum logon ka' " said a frustrated Gayatri
The tone used by Gayatri made everyone disappear as they all realized that she was quite frustrated and annoyed due to the commotion. Prem came downstairs wondering what was happening and so Gayatri told him that he doesn't have a dress as he will only be wearing a turban. Prem blushed by this thought and told Gayatri he will take Heer to buy her dress.
After arriving at the Galleria mall, inspired by the American malls, Prem decided to go inside. He stepped to a big, silver-like mall which was illuminated by white lights. Many shops and stores dwelled inside and the choices were endless. From food to snacks, from cloths to swim wear, everything was in its place and was quite easy to get. Prem opened the door and'
"Ladies first'"
"Oh, so why don't you step in", said Heer. She was dressed in a punjabji salwar suit of light blue color and her hair was let out. Her face was glowing and you could tell the happiness in her heart due to her marriage'
"Very funny, now hurry up. We have to go home after,"
They stepped in the mall, and Heer went to the first shop. The shop was called "Dulhan" and was generally the reason that Heer first went towards it. The shop consisted of many dresses varying in color, size, and outlooks. Heer came from a traditional family and so wanted a traditional wedding dress for herself. The manager at the at the store helped Heer try on dresses to see which one enlightens her soul'
The first dress was a blood red mermaid dress which emphasized Heer's figure for the better of it. The color of the dress brought out the fairness in her skin. The sequins on the kurti were of gold color and were in vertical lines throughout the kurti. The mermaid Lehanga had a lot of gold work on it was dazzling just by one look. The duppatta also consisted of much gold work and the fabric of it was of net'.

As soon as Heer entered the room, Prem stood up and he just stared at her without blinking. She looked beautiful and he was dazzled by the way the dress looked on her'on his Heer.
"Heer'Heer" he hesitated.." you look stunning"
Heer shyly turned around and blushed, then the lady asked her to go in to try another dress. Prem thought to himself if the start of his day is so beautiful, how will the rest of it be?
The next dress was another ghaghra choli for Heer which was of Maroon colour and was made out of Cotton Silk. The work consisted ofEmbroidery and bead work made with sequins, beads, swarovski crystals, cut-glass, kora, naqshi and tilla work. It was hand embellished.
"Prem, hum kahan jaa rahey hain?" Heer asked anxiously
"You'll see", he replied with a smile
Contented with her dress, Heer waited for their destination to arrive before speaking another word of it. Prem put a blindfold on Heer before letting her step out of the car. She walked a distance before Prem decided to stop her and take the blindfold off. She opened her eyes to a quaint aroma of pure harmony and happiness is abroad the marvelous lake Soft winds caressed her neck as she dwelled in the sparkling waters. Mirroring the gates of heaven, this was by far the closest thing on earth anyone could've found near that sensation. After the passageway of parade-inspiring colors, she found the opening to euphoria. The water was deep blue in color and it literally sparkled under the sun light. The air was fragrant with honeysuckles, pine, and grass. For some un-answerable reason, she felt that a whisper tone was mandatory to maintain the perfect cohesion with the outdoor temple.. Birds were flying making their presence known by beautiful songs. Squirrels were running abroad looking for acorns, and the trees feel nice enough to share. Hummingbirds are hovering consistently over the honeysuckle bushes. Just above the waters limits are thick blades of grass coloring the earth where leaves have not yet landed. These blades of grass make a carpet to walk on. The grass seems like a neon light around the shore of the entire lake. From the rock-insulated mountains, a creek sends a soft harmonious tone'
"This is amazing Prem, how did you find this?" Heer whispered as she kept looking at the astonishing view. Prem had disappeard by that time. He had left her alone to dwell in the amazing moments'After a while, Prem came back and noticed a sobbing Heer'
"What happened Heer?" He asked worriedly'
"Nothing, don't worry lets go home. Maa and Dadaji must be waiting for me to arrive with a wedding dress"
"Hey no, tell me what happened"
"Prem'Prem'I'I cant tell you", she said hesitantly
"Oh I get it'Heer'don't be worried. I am not separating you from your family, youre just coming with me as a wife. I swear Heer ill give you all the happiness in the world and I will never let a tear fall from your astonishing eyes. I know its hard to leave the loved ones you have lived with all your life but I promise ill always try to keep you happy"' ending with that note, Prem wiped Heer's tears and helped her rest her head on his firm chest. He caressed her hair and they both waited at the beach till sun dawn.
The fact that Prem knew exactly what was in Heer's mind showed Heer that the marriage that she'd be going through with was a right choice and Prem had been brought down to earth for her'
As the night fell and the sun rested behind the mountains, Heer and Prem both reached their respective houses. The ceremony of dholki was going on in each house. This ceremony was a part of the Indian culture at which both the bride and the groom would be covered with Haldi to make their skin glow as the other family members danced and got ready for the next day of the wedding and engagement.
"Bhaiyya, can I please put it on you too, I want you to look 'pretty' in front of Bhabhi", said Preet with a wink
"Yeah bhaiyya, don't you want to look beautiful on your first night?", said Prem's cousin named Anjali
"Tum dono bhi na, seriously, you guys should not be allowed to be in the same room together" said an irritated Prem while blushing
Preet and Anjali both high fived and Preet made a witty remark " Bhaiyya, we are going to let you and Heer bhabhi be in one room all alone tomorrow, so why cant Anjali be with me today with so many guests",
The comment made Prem blush as Gayatri came and put more Haldi on him. The girls all danced and played the "dhol" while singing wedding songs
In Heer's house, much of the same enjoyment was taking place as many girls were singing, dancing and putting Henna on for the wedding. Heer was also getting Haldi put on by each ot the family members that had arrived from different places. After the Haldi, Teji was forced to sing a song by Daljeet. And so both of them sang "Mehndi hai Rachne wali" from zubaida. The song brought tears in Heer's eyes and she excused herself to go upstairs. She ran up breathing deepy against the window as she thought of the fun times spent with her family. She looked at her father's pictures and her eyes turned puffy and red as tears trickled down her tender cheeks. She examined her room in the house and touched each and everything implying to leave her mark and touch on each of her belongings. She thought to herself'Have you ever been crippled or felt so incapable of something? Has anything felt so empowering that you didn't know what to do or how to tackle the situation? Have you ever felt so much pain where it seemed like it immobilized your body? Have you ever felt so depressed that you really didn't know where the source of depression was coming from? These questions kept repeating in her brain as she felt the tears on her cheek. She had never felt so helpless; one side she was happy to finally run away from her one lie and marrying her love. But on the other side she was sad to leave the ones that she had loved.
Meher came upstairs to find solace to also cry as she had always been really close to Heer. At the sight of Heer, the two sister ran up to each other and hugged as tightly as possible implying t never let go of one another. Blood rushed up to their faces as tears wet their lashes and cheeks. Meher sobbingly wiped Heer's tears and said'
"Didi, whenever I got mad at you, I would wish you would leave and that id be the only child. Now as I am seeing you leave i wonder what I will do without you. When you had left for Mumbai, you were still ours, but now when you leave for Mumbai, you wont be ours anymore but of Prem jiju's"
At that thought, Heer's knees felt weak and her body felt limb, she dropped on the bed weeping and crying; letting the tears of follow run so that she wouldn't feel so sad. When Teji walked in the room, Heer's throat tightened as Teji came closer and wiped her tears. Daljeet came in singing, Sabki baratein Aayie, and the four of them embraced each other as they knew that it would be the last time. Heer would not be theirs after tomorrow and although it might have felt depressing , it was the Indian culture.
"Betiyaan to paraye hi hoti hain (daughters are strangers)", said Teji with a heartfelt emotion
"Tomorrow, five of us will leave the house together, and yet, only four will come back. The house will feel so empty without you Heer", said Daljeet
