Unlike the run of the mill marriage formulas, the script has now many angles to explore- especially in a newly wed couple's life. So, while in Doli Armaanon Ki, the viewer gets to see a newly wed wife about to discover the promiscuity of her husband, in Kehta Hai Dil... Jee Le Zara, the beauty of a blossoming relationship shaping up after a May December romance culminates into marriage.
At the same time, in Balika Vadhu, there is this concept of a marital relationship becoming mature with Shiv and Anandi's decision to adopt a physically challenged Anmol. Similarly, Beintehaa talks about two newly weds' confusion in accepting destiny which brought them together as husband and wife. The list would go on if one is to count the number of tracks where each couple's story is very different from the other.
According to many in the industry, this outcome reflects a slice of real life situations and contradictions. Says producer Ridhwana, "Marriage is one of the most important decisions of anyone's life in real life and TV soaps reflect that slice of life. Moreover, marriage is the most talked about topic everywhere in Indian society. Soaps surely reflect realities as a gamut of shows depict marriages and families from different social and economic environment."
For actors, it is mostly about donning the garb of a more matured outlook onscreen. Says actor Jay Soni, "Transition from singlehood of a character to that of a married man is beautiful because the look of the character is worked upon. Since the portrayal is to do with looking mature, there is scope for performance as an actor. Audience today relate more to mature content on TV."
It is also about what's not been told on the small screen so far, feel some. Says actor Mohit Malik, "There are so many realistic portrayal of marriages and men on TV today, which make the viewer relate more to a character. Most of the on screen relationships do reflect what is commonly perceived about a husband and wife relationship in a society."
At the same time, the charm lies in exploring marital life from a woman's perspective that everyone agrees to unanimously. "TV is all about women's viewership and that's why shows cater to her needs and her wishes. This leads one to explore the same story in a very beautiful yet different manner. Like when a mother in law plays cupid in her daughter in law's marriage, it becomes sweet," says producer Kinnari Mehta.
With various tracks focusing on different content, there surely seems more intrigue factor in the story treatment. After all, it is about emotional connect with the viewer.
