Thank you, first and foremost for not pointing out how unrealistic the hearing therapy session was. ๐ I'm sure as someone who studies audiology, you could easily have pointed out how off the mark I was. I think I mixed up trauma counseling in there. ๐ Thanks for reading.
Wohoooooooooooooooo can't wait to read it! Btw, i love your ffs...๐ณ
Will be up in a second, would love to hear your comments. ๐
oh, generation leap.
its good asusual.
payal and karan, sounds intresting.
Thank you for always reading. Yeah, I also think they are pretty interesting since their relationship has some very modern day challenges to it.

It wasn't unrealistic, i think that's the sort of things they would do though. I haven't studied paediatric rehab yet and i didn't get the chance to go to the children's hospital for my placement.
Loved the concluding bit. Loved the world domination bit! ๐ Can't wait for Payal and Karan to meet. Looking forward to part 5!
Thank you so much, really appreciate it, especially since I know absolutely nothing about any of these character's careers. Really winging it here. ๐ Part 5 is all about Payal and Karan but they don't meet. ๐
Part 5 - 2 Months Ago
"I want to thank everyone who worked on this acquisition. And I have to make a special mention of Karan. Great job on the risk analysis, Karan.", said Jerry Packer to the assembled board room. On the mention of his name, Karan forced himself to concentrate on what the senior partner was saying. He acknowledged the praise with a polite smile but really couldn't feel any excitement, not even when Jessica gave him one of her smouldering looks from across the room. As he left the boardroom, Jerry put a hand on his shoulder and said, "I can't confirm it just yet but I got to say that promotion is looking pretty good.". "Thanks, Jerry. I appreciate it.", said Karan as he tried to snap out of his indifferent mood. "I'm looking forward to tomorrow.", whispered Jessica softly as she walked out with him. They had a third date planned for the next evening but Karan had a sudden urge to cancel. As soon as blonde, blue-eyed Jessica had set foot in the office, every guy there had been vying for her attention but they all knew the game was over, once Karan had asked her out and she had accepted. They all knew woman found him irresistible. And it wasn't just the tall, athletic built or the greenish eyes or the chiseled features, it was something more. It was the understated confidence. "Karan, b'ball game, this afternoon at 4?", asked Tim, one of Karan friends in the company, before Karan could enter his office. "Yeah, sure.", replied Karan distractedly. "Great, afterwards we can catch the Patriots game at the bar.", said Tim. "Fine", replied Karan but couldn't help thinking that if he was in India, he and Riley and their friends would play a game of soccer and then watch a cricket match. Karan finally made it to his office and leaned back in his seat. "What the hell is wrong with me?", thought Karan banging the back of his head a few times against his chair. At 26, he was at the top of his game, both personally and professionally, yet he had never felt more unsettled and unfulfilled. He didn't want the promotion, he didn't want to date Jessica, he didn't want to play a basketball game. What did he want?
Karan turned on his computer and checked his emails. Ignoring everything else, he opened Kiran's email immediately. It contained a video clip of Shaina's engagement. "Guys, say something to Karan", Karan could hear Kiran voice as she filmed Shaina, Kirti and Payal, getting Shaina ready for her engagement. "Karan Shergill, I'm never going to forgive you if don't come for my wedding.", said Shaina as she wagged a finger. "Hey cuz, when are you coming back home?", asked Kirti. "Payal?", Kiran asked Payal who was busy folding Shaina dupatta. Karan suddenly felt his heart in his throat as the camera briefly focused on Payal. Payal looked up and smiled at the camera but then Kiran swung the camera around to focus on Shaina's fiancee Ashok who had snuck into the room. Karan let out a groan as Kiran filmed Shaina chasing Ashok out of her room. Payal was nowhere in the frame. Karan quickly fast forwarded through messages from other family members including his own parents. He paused when there was another shot of Payal in the background, carrrying a tray to meet Ashok's family. There were other shots of Payal in the background but nothing that focused on her until the end of the engagement. Payal was walking past when Kiran finally cornered her for a message to Karan. She was wearing a green sari that clung to her curves, her glorious curls, loose and free and her lips, pink and sweet as ever. Karan felt his heart pound, his palms go sweaty and his knees go weak. He was back to being 16 again. "Hey Karan", smiled Payal, "I'm sure you are having a great time in New York but do visit soon, I'm know your parents will love that.". "How about you?",asked Karan not even realising he was talking to the screen. "Or at the very least email.", continued Payal. Suddenly a soft, thoughtful expression passed over her face, "When I was in London, your emails ...". "Dude, I don't care how great New York is, there is no way you are getting food as good as this, there.", interrupted Riley, holding up a plate of food to the camera, and putting an arm around Payal. "Ryle, get off the screen!", shouted Karan at his computer monitor. But Payal had just laughed and moved away, while Riley ended his message, "Dude, time to come back home.". Karan sat back in his seat shaken up. It was indeed time to come back home, since no high flying job or beautiful blonde could ever make him feel like a 4 minute video clip of Payal could. He had loved her his entire life and he realised at that moment, he would never stop loving her.
They had all grown up together, a big, happy gang of extended cousins who were constantly in and out of each other's homes. Except by the time, Karan was in his teens, his feelings for Payal were decidedly uncousinly. He remembered being a 16 year old who became tongue-tied, every time, 18 year old Payal who was already in college, so much as looked in his direction. But Payal only thought of him as a nuisance or even worse as her second little brother whom she had to admonish or look out for. Then she went of to study in London. She came back home after being away for 18 months. By then she was 24 and Karan was 22. He hoped that she would finally see that he had grown-up, especially since they had emailed each other often while she was in London. And in those emails, they had connected as friends. But every hope, Karan had, came crashing down when she introduced him to Mark Kingston, a 34 year old advertising executive and her new fiancee. Karan had gone out and got rip roaring drunk. The bartender had to phone Riley to come pick him up. As Riley had drove him home, Karan had blabbered and cried the entire way, about how much he loved Payal and how out of her league he was. Soon afterwards, Karan went to the US to complete his studies. He heard of Payal breaking off her engagement but by then he had established himself as quite the ladies man at Harvard and had convinced himself that his feelings for Payal were nothing more than a boyhood crush. He had visited India only once in the four years, since he had left. During that visit, Payal was in Canada with Bobby's family. Karan suddenly knew exactly what he wanted out of life. He wanted to go back home, reconnect with his family and friends, eventually take over his family's business, so his parents could enjoy their retirement but most of all ... "Who's that?", asked Jessica sharply, looking at the lovely Indian girl's picture frozen on Karan computer screen. He hadn't even noticed her standing behind him. Looking her straight in the eye, he said simply, "The woman, I'm going to marry."

Oooo loved it BC! Then again you new that. ๐ ๐ Hmmm, somehow i can't imagine Prachi getting married to a 34 year old and i really can't imagine Milind and Prachi letting her. Felt bad for Karan. This crush is a lifetime thing (since he started pulling her hair in ff 2). I wonder what Payal was going to say about his emails in the video.
Thanks BC!
Milind and Prachi weren't really thrilled but they didn't stop her. Karan was pretty crushed and yes, that hair pulling part in FF2 was to set up all of this. ๐

That's okay. ๐ There is Michi in this FF but they are middle age parents๐คฃ ... which may make it even more difficult to relate too. ๐
BC.. I think i love the fact that you broke convention and made payal elder to Karan... ๐ Very nice...
I somehow feel Karan and payal's love story should be intense...Payal has a very serious nature and i think i like Karan as the casanova...
So, karan is back to win over his gal....Great! I waiting to read how their story progresses... ๐ณ
Thank you, I'm so glad you like the fact I broke convention. ๐ I know the age difference isn't the norm but in the real world it is something that is increasingly happening. Though, I'm not exactly a huge fan of their's but look at Aishwarya Rai and Abisheck Bachnan, she is 2 years older and they seem perfectly okay together.
Oh BC... ๐ Hun...I am LOVING Payal and Karan...wicked, love both of them and Karan especially.
Now I agree with Bhav about Payal's previous engagement but then again maybe that is why she broke it off, because Milind and Prachi didn't approve?
Oh so Riley does know of Karan's feelings...thats good...I'm hoping for some guy bonding and helping each other out ๐
Thanks for the update hun... ๐
Thank You! There is going to be a part dealing with Payal engagement, why it happened and why it broke up. Oh, I think Riley and Karan have bonded enough, it's time for both of them to bond with their respective love interests, though Riley doesn't even realise he has one as yet. ๐
Part 6
It was an inky blue morning, the sun had half risen but Payal was already on her fourth lap. She had gotten up early, needing a swim to clear her head for the day ahead. She stopped when she heard voices. It was Riley. She had thought he was in bed fast asleep. And was that Karan with him? Payal rapidly blinked the water out of her eyes. It was Karan! Payal was mortified. How was she going to get out of the pool in just her swimming costume. She hoped they would turn around and leave but they just stood there, obviously waiting for her to get out. Deciding, she couldn't stay in the water forever, Payal quickily got out and wrapped a huge towel around herself. Karan was thunderstruck. After four years, this was not how he had wanted to come face to face with her. Karan had come back to India armed with a plan on how to win over Payal. A plan that included not acting like a lovestruck teenager. A plan that was in great danger of being forgotten, the moment, he saw her emerge from the pool in her black swimming costume with her hair all wet and tousled.
"Hey, Karan. Welcome back", said Payal quite composed on the surface but underneath desperately trying to hide her discomfort. Payal tried to remind herself that Karan was the same boy she had spent hours in the pool with, while growing up. Only he didn't look like a boy anymore. He looked like a grown man who knew a thing or two about skimpily dressed woman. Karan merely nodded. He was afraid of opening his mouth and having his tongue roll out and he hated her cool, seemingly indifferent greeting. "Got any breakfast?", asked Riley as he yawned. "Where are you coming from?", asked Payal, taking in their rumpled appearances. "Karan has jet lag, so we got him re-accquainted with Mumbai.", explained Riley, "Now, what's to eat?". Payal glared at him, "Don't you have work today?". "Later, I'll get a few hours of sleep before I go in". "Well, make sure you do.", said Payal and still in full big sister mode turned to Karan, "And being out all night is just going to make your jet lag worse.". "I think I can handle it.", said Karan, finally speaking. Payal looked at him startled. She couldn't remember his voice being that deep. There was a slight hint of an American accent but not too strong. "So, are you going to make us breakfast?", asked Riley. "No!", replied Payal before she walked back into the house.
When Payal returned back downstairs after showering and changing, she found Riley by the stove. He cracked an egg, spilling york all over the stove, instead of in the frying pan. "Move over, I'll do it.", said Payal resignedly. She was soon busy whipping up omelets for all of them. "Can I help?", asked Karan. "You could make us some tea.", replied Payal. "No coffee?", asked Karan. Payal wrinkled her nose, adorably so, thought Karan and shook her head. "We like tea in India.", she replied. Payal and Karan soon had breakfast ready.
"Ready for work on Monday?", asked Payal as they all sat around the table. Instead of immediately joining his own families' business, Karan had opted instead to work at Shah Enterprsies for a few months. There was no one better than Milind to learn about the Indian business world from and it gave him a chance to be close to Payal. Not that she suspected a thing. "I think your dad is going to have me number crunching for a while but hopefully I'll get a chance to learn other aspects of the business.", said Karan. "Well, with the expansion and the talk of the Chinese entering the market, your number crunching is actually going to be quite useful right now.", said Payal thoughtfully. "What exactly is the talk about the Chinese?", asked Karan interestedly. "A conglomerate acquired a huge piece of property just outside Delhi, speculation is that it could be for an hotel.", said Payal. "Just speculation? They would have had to declare their purposes for buying it.", said Karan. "That's the problem, the entire transaction has been rather vague.", said Payal, "It wasn't exactly prime real estate but it could be developed as rapidly as the Chinese are developing their suburbs.", she explained further but on seeing Karan's expression, she suddenly felt awkward.
His eyes looked a warm brown instead of their usual cool green and for the second time in the morning, she felt completely disconcerted by him. Karan knew he was looking at her gooey eyed but he couldn't help it. A woman who could talk business as well as cook a mean omelet, what more could he ask for? Payal looked at Riley, she had been so engrossed in her conversation with Karan, that she had fogotten, he was still at the table. He had fallen asleep in his chair. "Riley, go to bed.", scolded Payal as she started to clear the table. "Really, both of your'll, it was a week night. Riley, you have work and Karan, Aunt Ayesha can't be happy that the first day you're back, you stayed out all night.", admonished Payal. Karan scrowled, he suddenly remembered what more he could ask for. For her not to treat him as her younger brother.
