Pippa, what a great thing to have brought up. Just noticed this post. Completely valid and a carefully thought out argument.
However you are forgetting the one holy rule of life --
the moneyed are above religion, morals and ethics. I think I have noticed this in all countries and cultures, people who are moneyed are so busy making more money that they just have no time for such trivialities of life. Yes, they'll use these very emotions to make money out of the middle class (read exploit), but no rules apply to them.
Seriously do you think Ektaa Kapoor cares, if the TRP's are high she's not sweating it. This is capitalism to the core...and for some time it was a monopoly as well by Balaji telefilms. So, let's all just keep quiet and help her make more money. After all this is what life is, we the middle class in ANY country, being exploited by leaders, industralists and the like. If they can use us to their ends, they will. I've accepted this and moved on.
