I guess it's because they both have suffered but in different ways while his trust on relationships deteriorated her's has strengthened with time.

Looks like this girl too has a past which is not very happy. Does that involve Neev? No her past does not involve Neev though he is her friend here too. I hope if it does, he does not surface at a time when things heat up for Michi. Well he will surface but not till the very end of it.
