Chapter 19 – Worry, Worry, and Worry
Neev had been waiting for hours to get back to his room. He waited until she got ready for bed to confront her.
"Did you organize this?". Neev's sudden questioning startled Ayesha.
Ayesha: "What are you talking about? What did I organize?"
Neev: "I am talking about Prachi's sudden decision to marry Milind. What did you have to do with it." He was getting angry.
Ayesha: "First of all, I didn't force Milind or Prachi into any relationship. It was their decision. Besides, why do you have a problem with Prachi marrying Milind. I know you were once engaged to marry her but I doubt that you were heart broken when that wedding didn't happen. So what is your problem now. Why can't Prachi marry Milind?"
Neev: "You don't know anything Ayesha. You don't know Prachi like I do. She will not be happy with Milind."
Ayesha: "Neev you are right. I may not know Prachi as well as you do but I know Milind. And I am sure he will keep his wife happy, which is more than what I can say about you. So why don't you just stop worrying about others and go to sleep."
Neev: "You have no idea what you have done, do you? Do you know that Prachi wanted to break her engagement with me. It wasn't just because my mom didn't want to accept a mentally unstable Prachi."
This new knowledge made Ayesha furrow her brow in doubt. What did Neev know that she didn't know. All this time she had thought that Neev and Prachi had broken up because Nihaarika had refused to let them get married, stating Prachi's manic episodes as a reason. She had made a scene in front of all the friends and relatives of the Shahs, saying that Prachi was crazy and she didn't want her son to marry a crazy woman. All this was part of her plot to get Neev to marry Ayesha who had a greater share of the Shah property than Prachi did.
Ayesha: "Why did she want to break up with you Neev?"
Neev: "Oh now you want to know? Well its too late. She has already made up her mind so there is no use. Why do you have to do this Ayesha" He asked sounding a bit hurt. "Just when I was thinking that maybe you have some respect for this family and its members you go and ruin Prachi's life. Why can't you just once think like her sister?"
Ayesha raised her eyebrows and looked at Neev curiously who turned away from her and sat on his bed. Ayesha sat down on her bed and looked at Neev's back. Had this really been a bad idea? But she dismissed that thought. This is not what she wanted, this was God's plan for Milind and Prachi and Ayesha knew that it couldn't be wrong. What Neev thought of her didn't really bother her. But for now she was pondering over why Neev was behaving so unusually towards her. For the last few days he had been on edge. Like he wanted to tell her something but just couldn't get it out of his mouth. She wondered what it was that bothered him as she got comfortable in her bed.
He gave a disgusted look to Ayesha, who was sleeping now. He sighed. Whenever, he thought that there might be some hope for this marriage, Ayesha always ended up doing something that pushed him away. This time it had been her unnecessary meddling in Prachi's life. Why couldn't she just let Prachi be. He closed his eyes and shook his head. He had lived with this woman for almost 5 years. Why did he get fooled. Seeing her with Prachi the past weeks had made him think that they were getting closer as sisters. He had been happy at the thought. But all of it was just a farce probably. She and Milind had probably conspired about this and Ayesha had befriended Prachi for her purpose. Neev was sure that Milind was doing this to get revenge from the Shah family. He was surely going to make Prachi miserable.
~~~~~~~~
He opened his eyes slowly and as he realized that he had been sleeping he quickly shook off the fatigue and blinked his eyes a few times to wake himself up fully. But it was no use. He had been sitting at a remote corner to the quiet library for hours and now his bottom was also numb. He decided to take a walk and freshen up before continuing his battle with the books. He left his belongings at the table and grabbed his phone and walked towards the exit for some fresh air. He turned the phone on as he walked out with the intention of calling one of his study buddies. There was no way he was going to survive this alone. But as soon as he turned the phone on he noticed the voice message listened to it. His mother called him often but this call was urgent he figured and why did she sound panicked, he wondered.
PL had been pacing in her room and finally when the phone rang she jumped at the sound. It must be Bobby she thought. "Hello…Bobby?" she said without looking at the caller ID." "Hi maa," Came a more relaxed reply. "Aapne mujhe iss vakt phone kiya maa, Aap soye nahi the? Vahaan toh raat ho gayi hogi na? Koi zaroori baat thi mamma." "Bobby tu kahaan hai abhi? PL asked without explaining.
Bobby: "Maa, I am in the library, studying…for my exams…apko pata hai na mere exams chal rahe hain?"
PL: "Aur gudiya kahaan hai, uska phone kyon nahi lag raha?"
Bobby: "Maa baat kya hai yeh toh bataayo"
PL: "Bobby please, mujhe bas yeh bataayo ki gudiya kahaan hai. Mujhe usse zaroori baat karni hai."
Bobby: "Mom you know na how she is. Voh pagal ladki kabhi ek jagah tikti hai kya? The last time I spoke to her she was in African jungles somewhere."
PL: "KYA?", PL asked alarmed. "Bobby maine usko tere paas bheja tha taki tu uska khayaal rakh sake. How can you let her got to some jungle?"
Bobby: "Mom you sound like I have control over her. Has anyone ever been able to stop her mom. She insisted that there some very important assignment that she needs to shoot and it can only happen in Africa. And she is not alone mom. Her crew is with her."
PL: "Bobby tumhe uska ata pata kyun nahi hai. Usko contact karna ka koi toh raasta hoga. Jaane kaisi hogi meri bachchi."
Bobby: "Bachchi, Mom???", Bobby chuckled. "You are worrying unnecessarily. Anju is trouble in herself, who would even dare to cross her path ma." Bobby had tried to joke and ease his mom's worry.
PL: "Bobby tu toh mujhe aakar mil, teri khabar main leti hoon. Bas tu yeh bata ki tu gudiya ko lekar kab aa sakta hai."
Bobby: "I can't speak for Anju mom but I'll be free up in two weeks."
PL: "Bobby, come home as soon as your exams finish. Your sister is getting married."
Bobby was pleasantly surprised by news of Prachi's marriage. But his happiness was short lived with the knowledge of whom Prachi's was marrying. After having his how, why, when questions answered, Bobby said good night to his mom and headed to the campus cafeteria. He was disturbed but he knew there was nothing he could do right now. He got himself a piping hot cup of caffeine and headed back to his books. He would just have to make sure he finds Anju where ever she is on the globe and relay the information to her.
~~~~~~~~
The call hadn't given the peace PL had expected. Now she had two of her children to worry about. She went to the small temple built inside their home. She prayed for Anju's safety and wished that she would make it home before Prachi's marriage.

"Aapne mujhe iss vakt phone kiya maa, Aap soye nahi the? Vahaan toh raat ho gayi hogi na? Did you call me mom, you didn't sleep yet? Isn't it night time there? Koi zaroori baat thi mamma. Is it something urgent?" "Bobby tu kahaan hai abhi? Bobby, where are you now? PL asked without explaining.
Bobby: "Maa, I am in the library, studying…for my exams…apko pata hai na mere exams chal rahe hain?" you know I have my exams right.
PL: "Aur gudiya kahaan hai, uska phone kyon nahi lag raha?" And where is gudiya, why is she not picking up her phone
Bobby: "Maa baat kya hai yeh toh bataayo" Maa tell me what's the matter.
PL: "Bobby please, mujhe bas yeh bataayo ki gudiya kahaan hai. Mujhe usse zaroori baat karni hai." Bobby just tell me where gudiya is. I need to talk to her
Bobby: "Mom you know na how she is. Voh pagal ladki kabhi ek jagah tikti hai kya? That crazy woman doesn't stay in one place for too long. The last time I spoke to her she was in African jungles somewhere."
PL: "KYA?", WHAT? PL asked alarmed. "Bobby maine usko tere paas bheja tha taki tu uska khayaal rakh sake. Bobby I sent her to you so you can look after her. How can you let her got to some jungle?"
PL: "Bobby tumhe uska ata pata kyun nahi hai. Why do you not know exactly where she is. Usko contact karna ka koi toh raasta hoga. There must be some way to contact her. Jaane kaisi hogi meri bachchi." Lord knows what condition my child is in.
Bachchi, means child (female)
PL: "Bobby tu toh mujhe aakar mil, teri khabar main leti hoon. I'll talk to you when you come home. Bas tu yeh bata ki tu gudiya ko lekar kab aa sakta hai." Just tell me when you can come with gudiya.
