Wonderful...read the last 2 chapters. Loved it.

So Saumya's husband is the other son-in-law. Michi decided to get married....now it will be more interesting😊

About what happened behind the closed doors: I think they both might have blurted out "I am ready to marry you" at the same time before saying anything else😳😆

Thank you JC for two wonderful parts hehe I really wonder what Milind actually said to Prachi that made her agree to marriage in such short moment! 😃

Who is Soumya's husband? Okay I gave you my guess, rather embarrassed to say it here hehehe. But won't be surprised if I'm wrong though there are not many other guys around hehehe. Or maybe he's an original character.

Waiting for the next part!

Hey ppl, what actually happened in Prachi's room will have to come later. Because there needs to be some logic as to why Michi are all of a sudden getting married. So i need to explain their state of mind.

Chapter 16 – Saved by the Bell

The clock struck 1:00 am and Milind was still sitting in his home office spinning the paperweight on his table as he thought deeply about the day. He was thanking someone up above for the phone call he got at the opportune moment. If it hadn't been for the phone call he would have gave up on a golden opportunity. It had been a call from the institution in Delhi where Sukriti had received treatment for the entire time he was in Turkey. He had gone to meet Sukriti as soon he landed in India. If he had any choice he wouldn't have let Sukriti live in that place. But the condition Sukriti was in when he left for Turkey, it was best to leave her in the care of professionals. Even while in Turkey he had thought he had kept a good watch on Sukriti by keeping in personal touch with her doctor and getting daily update on her condition and having Ayesha check up on her often. But apparently the week Milind had returned, Sukriti's doctor was on vacation and the staff of the institution apparently had very little regard for the inmates of the place. The caller had been Dr. Astha who had called him immediately as she realized what had transpired behind her back. The doctor had insisted that Milind bring Sukriti back, as Milind had taken Sukriti away without the permission of her doctor and had not done the required paper work. But more importantly, the doctor felt that the sudden change in environment would do more harm to Surkiti than good and she would be better off in the institution under her care.

After having the longest conversation Milind ever had with someone over a phone call, Dr. Astha had advised Milind that if it was possible for Sukriti to be around her child, then she would consider letting Sukriti stay with Milind. The reason being that the last time there was a drastic change in Sukriti's mental state was after her delivery. It had been a traumatic experience but it had lead to positive changes in her and the doctors had slowly started to progress with her, who until then had been in unstable condition. The doctor felt that a bonding with her son, would possibly help in her speedy progress to being healthy again.

Milind pondered over the conversation he had with Prachi and Ayesha earlier in the day. Prachi was not at all like he had expected her to be. Actually he didn't know what he had expected from her. But he definitely didn't expect to have to scrap his intentions of taking away Ritwik from her. She had some valid points. He did have a history of aggressive behavior and Prachi had her family to support her. Milind's money enough would not be enough to win a case for Ritwik's custody. Sadly Milind had to admit at least to himself that Sukriti was not capable of caring for Ritwik even though she had the full right on him as the biological mother. Besides, Prachi could always get Alaap to act like he cared for Ritwik in order to win the custody. Even though he was not at all in favor of it, Ayesha's suggestion seemed to him the best alternative at this time. Ayesha had never given him bad advise. And Milind had enough experience with things going wrong when he doesn't follow her advice and things turning out exactly as she predicted when he did listen to her. But that didn't mean that Milind liked her current brilliant plan. This was not going to be easy he figured and sighed as he closed his tired eyes. He had to first get that brat to agree to marry him, then he had to convince her family and for all that he would have to do the one thing he despised the most in this world. He would have to pretend, he would have to lie. But for him, his sister was worth it.

I have included in this chapter Suki and Alaap's past as the question was raised about why Suki was in such bad condition. I hope now i have given a believable reason for it. As for the concern that Milind already was going to get Ritwik for Suki's sake and there was no need for the doc's opinion, i have answered it in my reply to Opti's post. If anyone has the same question do read that post...and let me know.

Chapter 17 – To make amends.
Dedicated to Chituku who has been eagerly waiting. And to Opti and Pragu for honest criticism.😃

*credits* The past of Alaap and Sukiriti is similar to that of Kayamath show itself with minor modifications.

Still 2 days ago

Prachi was absent mindedly drying her wet hair with a towel. She had spent an unusual time in the shower only because she had been pondering on the possibilities of her marriage with Milind. She was reliving the past events in her head and trying to figure out if it was the best thing to do and what might be going through Milind's mind.

The problems had really started with Alaap deciding that Sukriti was going to be his flavor of the month. And Sukriti being the naive girl, was quickly flattered by Alaap's attention. Sukriti was a very sweet girl and Prachi liked her. In some corner of her heart she had wished that Alaap and Sukriti would get together. So she had turned a blind eye to their activities and she was cursing herself for it today. Prachi felt that if she had taken any steps to deter Sukriti, all their lives would have been different today. Prachi had blamed herself for being lenient with Alaap too. She had covered up so many of his mischief from their parents as they were growing up. But when the water whet above their heads, her father had decided to send him to boarding school, thinking that he would learn some discipline there.

But Alaap never changed. He was gone so far ahead that he made a mockery out of sacred marriage rituals. He pretended to marry Sukriti only to bed her and then throw her away from his life like a broken toy. Prachi felt sick just thinking about it. How was Alaap, her blood, her brother, just able to do it without a conscience. But the worst part was only to come. Milind had found about the affair and would have killed Alaap if the Principal of the college hadn't called the police. It was Prachi who bailed him out without his knowledge but he had come back to settle the scores with Alaap again, this time, getting into a verbal confrontation with her dad. Prachi still remembered that day. She had been so scared watching it from upstairs. It was then that Prachi had told the truth to her father but it had been too late. Her father soon met with the accident and the only person who could have set things straight was no longer among them.

Their father's death and the revelation of Ayesha's identity pushed Alaap further into his wickedness. He felt he had no one to fear anymore. He had insulted Sukriti in front of the whole college and proved her to be a characterless woman who had thrown herself on him. He had humiliated her to the extent that she had tried to commit suicide. But it was her father who had paid for Alaap's evil deeds with his life. Mr. Mishra couldn't tolerate the disgrace and had endured a massive heart attack which took his life. And a fragile Sukriti who had witnessed the death of her father, was pushed over the edge of sanity.

Milind had decided to go to Turkey and Sukriti was admitted to an asylum where she gave birth to Ritwik. Ayesha took over Ritwik's responsibility and brought him home whereas Prachi had decided that she would never forgive Alaap and had started to care for Ritwick as a penance for the wrong done unto the Mishra family. She had made everyone believe that she had bipolar disorder and even had a few sessions with a psychiatrist. But before her therapist figured out that she was pretending, she had successfully broken her engagement with Neev, courtesy Nihaarika anty who was just looking for a reason to break that relationship. She had used the same excuse to have herself rejected by several prospective grooms. And those who didn't care for her mental health were scared away by her condition to accept Ritwik along with her. Her decision to remain unmarried had been the cause of great grief for her mother, who was the only person she had not wanted to hurt.

She no longer cared for the rest of the family. All her siblings and even Dadi were strangers to her as far as she was concerned. They were not the same people whom she had loved and grown up with. They all were just cruelly selfish who had forgotten Sukriti and Milind, and Mishraji all too soon. The only people she liked being around were her mom, Anju and Ayesha. Yet she often felt an air of uncomfortableness around Ayesha, which possibly was due to her own inhibitions. She tried her best to avoid talking to her mother because she was afraid her mother would break her resolve. And Anju, well she moved around a lot and would come home only for brief periods of time. She had felt so lonely and isolated.

As the months had passed, she bonded with Ritwik on a very different level. She had even forgotten that she didn't give birth to him. Being with him day and night, and caring for him while he was in the hospital, had bonded the two together in a magical way. She no longer could imagine her life without him. When she had heard that Milind was coming back, though it was something to be happy about, it had caused her a lot of anxiety. She had become selfish herself, not wanting to let go of Ritiwk. But Ayesha had opened her blinded eyes. If they got married, a lot of things would fall into place, she thought. There would be nothing else Prachi could do for the Mishras other try to get Sukriti better. And if being around Ritwik was a sure guarantee of it, she was more than ready for it.

Her eyes suddenly went over to the photograph of her father hanging on her wall. His sweet but stern smile brought back a sense of reality to her. The content that her heart was filled with at the idea that things would be ok, was replaced with guilt again. She touched his picture and a tear dropped from her eyes as she remembered how her father had died. If only she hadn't said anything to him maybe he wouldn't have had that accident, she blamed herself. But soon she chided that thought. It wasn't her fault. Accidents can happen to anyone, at anytime and it was just his time to go. But no matter how much she tried to move on, she still wished she could take that one day back and wished it had never happened.

"I am breaking my promise dad," she said, still looking at her father with tears. "I am getting married. Only because it will do good to those who have been hurt by us. It is the right thing to do papa and I know I'll have your blessings."

She wiped her tears and sat down with Ritwik who was trying hard to draw sunshine on her carpet with crayons. She ruffled his hair slightly and with a determined look made her final decision. After having come to a conclusion about her own stand, she now needed to find out what Milind was thinking. What if he refused the proposal? He would agree, she thought, after all it was for his sister. But Prachi knew once Milind made up his mind about something it was almost impossible to change it. Of all people, Prachi knew that fact about Milind well. How would she convince him to marry the daughter of Shah family, the one family he hated in this world.

Up next: Next chapter will be Michi's convo in the room.😃

I really appreciate your honest opinions just as much as i enjoy your patronage. Thankyou for reading guys. And do let me know if anything in my story is indigestible or doesn't make sense...well, other than the things that i choose not to reveal at this time. Since i am notorious for my excellent memory (🤣) i do tend to forget the little details that i may have included in my chapters and as readers if you find any conflict do let me know.😆😆😆 Hope you enjoy this part.
