Part 4
Prachi had tried to take the bowl from him but Milind held on to it firmly "Just drink" he ordered her and she had mutely resigned to it. Kaka had brought some bread along with the soup Milind tore small pieces of it and dipping them in the liquid fed her some. Prachi had studied him closely then his curls were somewhat tamed that night and his black eyes focused on the spoon his pursed lips forming a perfect O as he blew on the soup. She wondered why he was doing what he was doing, she understood that he meant her no harm he could've taken advantage of her vulnerable condition yet he had guarded her integrity and helped her throughout. She coughed involuntarily as she swallowed a spoonful in haste and Milind had immediately placed the bowl on the bedside table sitting beside her he patted her back rubbing it tenderly and she had fallen back in his inviting arms closing her eyes as a sense of security seeped in. She knew with him she was safe Milind had found her breathless and thought it best to let her compose herself before giving her the medication. She breathed gently against him and he was overcome with a strong desire to hug her close yet he refrained he had no right on her religiously or morally she was a stranger who needed help and he had performed his duty as a good citizen... Aw crap! his mind had negated the thought almost immediately who was he fooling he knew very well he was attracted to her but why was the big question. Did he know her ... no. Did he know what was her parentage, what if she were really a call girl by profession and all this was a plan to trap him. But if that was the case were her pleas fake her condition an act, that was not possible she was truly sick. He sighed as his head throbbed badly it felt as if it would explode how could he have possibly landed himself in this mess. He shook his head in disbelief when his eyes fell on her sleeping form her eyes closed in serene slumber and he had known why he had gotten himself in this mess.... because of her.

She shifted slightly in his hold causing her garment to reveal her collarbones he would've turned his eyes away had he not spied a tooth mark on her silky skin. Pushing the fabric away slightly Milind was stunned to see teeth marks embedded in her flesh the skin around the wound turgid and crimson. He cursed Vikram under his breath and removing her from his embrace made her lie on the bed before bringing the first aid kit to her side. He gently applied the ointment on the bite mark causing her to wince in pain. She had moaned slightly and he had rubbed the cream lightly still, how he wished he could strangle Vikram in that instant that bloody scoundrel Prachi had stirred then unable to bear the pain she opened her eyes to see him bend over her slightly. She felt his fingers on her skin and looked at him questioningly his eyes had met hers and he had immediately withdrawn his hand "I uh ... happened to see your wound" he had informed her extremely guilty of his action. "It's ok" she had whispered and he had shaken his head in acknowledgment "I guess you'd be thinking how I ended up at the bar after meeting you in the alley the previous night". Even though he had not probed her for details he desired to know her side of the story. He watched her silently as she sat up with difficulty he propped a pillow behind her and she continued. "I ... I had gone to see my grandmother at the hospital. She is sick, she has leukemia and so is hospitalized... Vikram, the man you saw at the bar used to be our neighbour. He told me he would lend me money for my grandmother's medication and hospital bills if I worked at his bar". Milind noticed her face had turned dark recollecting the horrible events. "He ... he made me perform at the bar first and then since the last few days he had been... after.. my.." she could not continue then and had broken down sobbing miserably. "It's ok.. sshh it's ok" Milind had held her in his arms letting her vent her grief through her tears. "I think you had better get your medicine and take rest now" he had consoled her she was suddenly aware of her being encased in his arms and had retreated as soon as it had dawned on her. Milind had brought her the pills and she had gulped them down settling on the bed Milind had left the room then to pass a sleepless night in the room next door.

The morning had brought a fresh new start and for Milind a truck load of worries he was supposed to leave for Haryana the very day the wedding being finalized next week. He was worried sick about Prachi he could not leave her on her own it would only mean a fatal retreat to the pub and Vikram. Finally he found it best to take her to Haryana with him as for her grandmother he would ask Rahul and Vikram to get her shifted to Chandigarh City Hospital before they came to join him in Haryana for the wedding. Once Prachi's grandmother was safe he could ask his friend Inspector Khan to deal with Vikram at free will. He had woken up early Kaka too was an early riser and by the time Prachi had awoken all preparations for leaving town were completed by the two men. Kaka had brought her breakfast he could not help but smile at the innocent creature who looked at him with child like curiosity. "What is your name child?" he had asked her and she had smiled "Prachi" she had told him as he handed her the cup of steaming tea. "Where do you come from?" Kaka had asked intrigued "Delhi" she had answered softly her eyes turning misty. Milind had walked in then dressed in a white shirt with a stone washed jeans he looked drop dead gorgeous Prachi had found it difficult to peel her eyes off him. It was no secret that she had found him attractive but she reminded herself that she was bound to someone else. Silently she had averted her eyes to the breakfast tray Kaka had left there "Well we're all set to go" Milind had told her. "Go!" she had raised her eyes to him "Yes I have to leave for Haryana today, I'm getting married next week" he had raked a fleshy hand through his moist crop of hair.

"Oh.." she had remarked unable to make out of the situation why was she disappointed she mused had she expected him to safeguard her forever, that was quite impossible. "I'll just freshen up and leave" she had mumbled standing up "I'd prefer if you accompany me to Haryana, you'r not feeling well and I cannot risk you staying alone in the city. Men like Vikram don't lie low long" he had offered her refuge. "How can I come with you... my grandmother" she was skeptical "I'll handle that just tell me the name of the hospital and her ward number" he had eased her "I'll try getting her shifted to Chandigarh as soon as possible before Vikram has an inkling of our plans I wish to leave with you". Prachi had looked at him long "Why are you doing this?" she had questioned him "What!" Milind stood perplexed. "I said why are you doing this? I cannot repay your generosity financially or..... in any other way" even though she had not said it loud he understood what she meant perfectly. "You honestly think I'm doing this all this to extract physical pleasure from you.... that's absurd" he had growled his eyes going black as thunder and Prachi had immediately regretted implying the obvious. "It's just that all men require the same" she had explained sadly. "Well I'm not like them" Milind had snapped "Get ready in fifteen minutes" he had commanded before exiting the room dissapointedly. Prachi had showered and changed in a sky blue salwar suit she had found in a plastic bag in her room one of the many Milind had purchased the previous night. She debated on whether to call Gauri or not for she she had left her apartment without a note or explanation the woman must be worried sick about her. She quickly dialled her friend's hostel number there was still time before she left for work and waited patiently while the matron went upstairs to call Gauri. Five minutes later Gauri was on the line blasting her for her stupidity "Damn you Prachi I told you not to leave the room and this is what you do. Sneak out behind my back what if that Vikram had found you and made you join his brothel" Gauri had been outraged to find Prachi missing on her arrival and had made up her mind to register a police complaint if she did not hear from her in the next twenty four hours.

"Well Vikram did catch me at the hospital" Prachi had narrated the events that had been encountered by her since her fateful visit to her grandmother. Gauri had been stunned to know that not only had the kind stranger saved Prachi but was also taking her along with him "Prachi I think the best option would be to stay out of sight now and as you explained the man seems harmless I would advise you to join him in his trip. The farther away from Vikram the better. Besides I too have to come to Haryana for my cousin Mallika's wedding this week so hopefully I'll meet you there" she had instilled fresh hope in Prachi who was smiling by the end of the conversation. "Thanks Gauri you'r the best" she had told her friend who had giggled "I know... by the way is this stranger handsome?" she had asked intrigued by the man "Very!" Prachi had whispered. "Does that mean you'll dump Neev for him" Gauri had questioned laughing and Prachi had grown weary again. "I don't know Gauri Neev seems to be an illusion now it has been ages since we last conversed, I don't understand where this is heading" she had sighed helplessly. In the distance Prachi could hear Milind honking loudly and had said a hasty goodbye to Gauri before disconnecting the call. Slipping on her sandals she tore down the stairs to find him and Kaka waiting anxiously for her. "Sorry" she had mumbled taking her seat beside him and the car had rolled on the gravel driveway out of the mansion bound for Haryana.

The drive was fast since it was still early morning and the streets weren't crowded as yet in around an hour they had reached the national highway. Prachi found the silence uncomfortable Kaka had conveniently dozed off in the back seat and Milind focused on the road ahead. Trees houses and lamp posts whizzed by in the blink of an eye Prachi soon grew bored of watching out of the window. "You had breakfast?" Milind had inquired shifting gears "Yes" Prachi had answered bewildered "Take your pills then" Milind had slowed down the car handing her the bottle keeping the car steady as she poured water in a cup from the flask and had them. The journey had continued then without any hitches though Milind had switched on the radio in a low tone so that she wouldn't bore. Around noon they had stopped at a roadside dhaba for lunch Prachi had been ravenous smelling the exotic fragrance of freshly cooked delicacies but to her dismay Milind made her eat a mixture of rice and lentils with soup he had asked Kaka to prepare for her ealier. She looked at him in despair "Why can't I eat that" she had asked pointed to Milind's plate of paav bhaaji "That's because I am not the one with the fever" he had laughed.

"I'm not eating this" she had declared defiantly much to Milind's ire "Prachi I can't afford to have you fall sick midway of our journey so eat that you can eat all the good stuff once we reach Haryana" he had cajoled and she had pecked at the contents in her plate unhappily. Lunch being over they had resumed their journey and Prachi had dozed off conveniently, the next one and a half day were spent restlessly cooped up in the Cadillac and all had sighed in relief to see the outskirts of Haryana loom in view. Milind's house in Haryana was a typical village haveli and at the moment was filled with guests who had come to attend his wedding from all over the country. Parking his car in the driveway Milind had stepped out rubbing his knees to get the blood flow going driving non stop hadn't done him any good but it could not be helped as he was in a tearing hurry to reach Haryana. A young boy had run inside to inform of his arrival and pretty soon a crowd had gathered around the entrants Prachi had been quite awestruck to see the large marble structure they had entered. She opened the door and stepped out only to fall crashing down her feet had turned numb due to sitting in one position for long. She lay dazed while Milind had sprinted to her side lifting her in his arms. The women gathered around him were villagers who had found Milind's concern for her strange and had started whispering regarding the stranger girl amongst each other. Quite oblivious of all that was happening around him Milind had sauntered in the house with Prachi cradled in his arms though what awaited him there was quite unexpected. Mallika had been called that day for a pooja Baba had organized since he had wanted Milind to attend it with her. She sat chatting to her friends only to find her husband to be carry a beautiful girl in his arms.

The truth was Mallika had assented to the marriage under extreme pressure by her father she did not love Milind and found him blunt and cold. On all occassions that they had met earlier Milind had never made it a point to mingle with her simply because he believed she was loud and outgoing not the type of woman he desired to befriend. The lively banter in the courtyard had turned to a fierce hush of whispers Mallika's face had turned crimson with rage never had Milind lain a finger on her and here he stood carrying another woman she stormed to one of the inside rooms while Milind calmly proceeded up the stairs to his own.

A wonderful update. Prachi's obviously getting quite comfortable with Milind -she's already asking for more tastier foods - I guess when the trust is there then a person can be themselves and also I suppose that's the innocence in her character - no doubt one of the qualities that has Milind drawn to her.Is Gauri Malikka's cousin.? Why did Milind consent to marry her if he doesn't like her? Love to find out what the story with Neev is - strange that he would not be arround when Prachi is in such a grave situation with Vikram - assuming she has told him if they are boyfriend/girfriend/fiancee.

Really looking forward to the next update.
