Even though I tried to stop myself I simply couldn't and am back despite my better judgement with another ff.
Part 1
The night was young the atmosphere hazy lights burnt and faces blurred around him, he watched silently his fingers circling the tumbler placed on the marble counter. "Refill sir!" the bartender had asked and he had nodded his head in assent the bartender had poured him another shot of whisky which he had stared at absentmindedly the golden liquid bubbling in his tumbler. He had come here to find peace yet he realized that was one thing he was not getting even if he travelled to the heart of the world. Milind Mishra the name was able to provoke all kinds of emotions awe, respect, admiration and in some cases lust and desire he was a dream come true. Ambitious, terribly handsome and filthy rich a combination that could cause any woman to barter her soul to the satan for eternal damnation only to get a moment of true happiness with him. He could feel countless eyes assessing him checking him probing him, he didn't mind he was used to them only last month he had earned the coveted title of bachelor of the year by the famous magazine "Vogue". His dusky complexion pug nose those perfectly cupid lips unshaven face and thick curls had given many a girl sleepless nights yet none had won his heart. He was thirty and as his father feared would remain a bachelor for life if left on his own the reason he had fixed his marriage to a close associate's only daughter, Mallika Raichand. "Hello handsome wanna dance" a blond bombshell had approached him she was gorgeous with a milky texture her arched lips painted red she leaned forward to whisper in his ear "I could make you happy" she had purred. She had turned his face slightly his deep black eyes flicked in her direction and looked at her, disgust evident in them "I think I'll pass" he had drawled shrugging his arm clear of her hold.
She had pouted slightly before licking his cheek temptingly "You sure about that hunny" she had flashed him a bright smile tossing her auburn hair over her shoulders. Milind had stared at her eyes they were a deep blue yet they lacked the warmth he hoped to find in them, cold as the arctic tundra "Sure" he had sighed watching her leave haughtily. His friends called him a monk since he never indulged in any corrupt activity regarding women though the truth was he desired love similar to any other mortal the only drawback, he was selfish in that regard he wanted it all for himself. He could not imagine how his friends could manage to love multiple species of women all at the same time. "Milind!" he heard Rahul call him from across the dance floor he turned around on his metal stool to see him sway with the blondie he had just turned down. "Enjoying" he had mouthed and Rahul had showed him a thumbs up "Definitely!" he had mouthed back to Milind who had smiled impassively. The place was giving him the creeps he already had had his fill for the day atleast fifteen shots of Vodka and Whisky he was an ace drinker and didn't get affected by alcohol easily he knew when to stop and according to his better judgement it was time to stop. Sloshing down his shot in one gulp he stood up to leave the bar another evening wasted but then come to think of it life itself was a waste. He slogged all day at work and returned home to an empty house. His family resided in Haryana comprising of his father they owned a vast acerage of farmland lush green vegetation grew there and he had left it all behind him in a hope to flee, the memories. Walking out of the noisy pub he had been assailed with recollections of the good old days back when his life was uncomplicated, when he was still a young lad of sixteen, when he was unaware of a life beyond Haryana.
He would get up to a bright sunny day and have a hearty breakfast with his sister Sukriti they were the only children Mishraji had, it was a happy family of four his father his mother and his sister his life revolved around them. After attending school he would race back home to go meet his father at the plantation where they grew sugarcane and wheat sucking on the sweet canes he would watch closely as his father dealt with the financial matters weighing the crop loading it on trucks and then counting the money. Life was easy they grew crops and then sold them it wasn't that his father was uneducated rather he had attained a degree in agriculture from Chandigarh university and had wished his son to follow his footsteps. But Milind was a restless spirit he soon bored out of the village life and longed to spread his wings for flight though talking his father into the ordeal gave him the jitters, the decision although was made suddenly when one night his house was ransacked by robbers. They had been out for a wedding and had reached home to find it resembling a tsunami struck beach what they had not anticipated was the robbers still inside the house his mother had let out a loud cry of shock on watching the disarray. One of the robbers in a haste to rush past them and in fear of being caught had opened fire riddling his mother's body with bullets.
Milind was eighteen then the shock was unbearable for him and he had stopped living from that moment. Life was a dull drudgery he finished college and helped his father at the fields when one day his father had called him in his room after dinner for a chat "Milind I notice you are not your former self" Mishraji had clasped his young son's hand with love. "You know the reason Baba" he had replied quietly after Aarti's demise everyone had made a point not to talk about her each knew that the loss was insufferable for the other and so maintained a deep silence over the issue. "Son I want you to live life the way it should be lived, had your mother been alive she would have wished the same" Baba had gently fondled him in his arms and for the first time Milind had felt his eyes go wet. "I want to leave Baba I cannot stay here" he had informed his father who knew why the decision had been so important "You have my consent" Mishraji had smiled patting him on his shoulder. A month later Milind had left for London where he had finished his business education he had a sharp mind and acumen for business working his way up the corporate ladder he had managed to open his first hotel after five years of relentless struggle. The day had been the most memorable for him he was both happy and sad. Happy that he had achieved his dream of attaining his ambitions single handedly and sad because he had no one to share it with. His sister Sukriti had been married in the course of time and Baba had denied his invitation of joining him it was harvest season and he knew his father's absence would mean a sure shot disaster at the fields. Over the years he had turned into a vagrant travelling the length and breath of the world yet nowhere had he found the one woman who could soothe his soul. He had longed to fall in love feel the warmth of it light his life but some dreams remain unattainable such was this, he was destined to marry Mallika a woman who he knew hardly loved him.
Milind had managed to track down his Cadillac in the parking lot and opening the front door had slid in on the plush leather of the seat breathing in deeply he had lit a cigarette and puffed on it before thrusting the key in the ignition. The wind had died down and soon the clouds had gathered though quite invisible against the black of the sky it had started slowly with light drops spattering on his windshield, clicking on the wiper blades he strained for better view. The light sprinkle had turned into a heavy downpour soon blocking his view he realized driving in such conditions could lead to fatal circumstances and had turned his car into a shaded alley. He would have shut the engine and flipped off the headlights had he not spotted something an object afore him. Due to the blinding rain it was impossible to make out what it was, gearing himself for further inspection he had stepped out from the car and had approached the object in question.
The glaring lights beamed on the figure huddled together shivering as Milind later found out, crouching beside it Milind had touched it only to see a head rise up from what appeared to be knees wrapped by a set of drenched arms. The lights dazzled the girl's eyes and she had put up her hand to shield herself from them. Milind was shocked to see a young girl sit in a lonely alley drenched and helpless. Water dripped down her face in small rivulets her soft pink lips trembled out of cold or fear was yet to be known by him watching a man sit close to her she had withdrawn further in herself and had shot up in haste. Her almond eyes had widened fright writ large in them Milind could not help but stand up and gaze on at the beauteous maid in silence. She had turned to run but in her haste had dropped a bundle she carried, the books had fallen in the puddle underfoot she had gasped in horror bending down to retrieve them tears mingling with the water droplets adorning her face. Wiping them away mercilessly she had gathered her belongings and had again retreated her steps but this time Milind had been quick enough to grasp her wrist. She had been about to scream whem Milind had clamped a heavy hand over her lips stifling it within her, she tried to wrench her wrist from his hold but he tightened his grip around it "I won't hurt you, but a dark alley is certainly not an appropriate place for young girls to be in at this late an hour" he had told her.
He could see her hazel eyes had filled up with salt water and had blinked hard to stop them from spilling it out nonetheless the effort was fruitless, water streamed down Milind's head matting his curls dripping down his nose and lips and she had studied the devilishly handsome stranger discreetly. Deeming her to be considerably calm and less agitated Milind had released her she stood silent clutching her books to her chest ready to sprint off lest Milind make one wrong move, Milind could see she was terrified and had thought it best to give her space. Moving away he had resumed his position inside his Cadillac and had shut the door with a resounding thud by now the girl had come to trust him to some extent and looked at him apprehensively. Reasoning though overtook desire and she resumed her position on the cold wet ground closing her eyes she let the rain pelt on her hard and fast. Her life was a dead end a one way road where there was no option of retrieval she wondered what else the night had in store since it had just begun and as she feared was turning out to be an extremely long one.
