A great start for a good story. I was feeling sorry for Milind. Want to know more about events that made him a taxi driver. Looking forward to your next update

Thank you Darwin dear I'll try making the story as gripping as possible. 😊 I'll be dedicating a whole chapter to Milind but first Prachi's story is up next. 😊

Ch 2

The place was bursting to it's seams filled with people drinking, chatting , laughing. Prachi could see Inder smile perfunctorily to one of his associates it was the success party of his London based hotel Shah Emporium, twenty five years and still a leading name in the business. If anyone were to write an autobiography on Inder Shah it would've started somewhere on the lines of 'A suave, flamboyant and shrewd businessman. A prosperous hotelier with many leading chains to his credit, a widower with two beautiful daughters'. Ayesha Shah his elder daughter was 27 married to Neev Shergill partner and major share holder in Shah Enterprises. Together they had a son Rahul aged four and were currently residing in New York. Both Ayesha and Neev were members of the board of directors for Shah Enterprises and were referred to as the Magnetic Duo for their ability to draw in bargains that resulted in profitable deals for their company. Then there was Prachi Shah the unwanted daughter, her mother having died of cardiac aneurysm while giving birth to her. It was a known fact that Inder Shah hated his second child, despised her from the moment she had wailed for the first time announcing her arrival in the world. She was the one who had snatched Premlata his darling wife away from him, had it not been for her they would've been a perfect family his wife and his prized daughter Ayesha.

But Inder's dreams had been brutally snatched from his eyes as his beloved wife breathed his last on that cold December night. "I ....love ...you Inder" she had managed between frantic gasps and then her head had rolled to the side her eyes dropping close as she left for the other realm. "Lata" Inder had whispered feeling life drain out of his stoned body as well as he stood in the OPD holding his wife's lifeless hand. "You'r daughter Mr Shah" the doctor had proferred a bundled yet fragile form to him but Inder had not waited. Planting a soft kiss on Premlata's dewy forehead he had walked away not casting a single glance at the unfortunate child who had lost both her parents in that one instant. The driver had brought her home from the hospital after Inder had left and had handed her over to Kaka who had weaned the child and had raised her till she was four. Inder could simply not bear to see her in the same space as himself she was a murderer, who had mercilessly killed his wife. He had her sent to a French boarding school the best it was said and Prachi had grown into a beautiful young maiden on foreign soil quite unknown to her father. Over the years Inder had detached himself from Prachi, it was as if she simply did not exist for him. When she returned home to spend her vacations he would arrange trips and keep himself busy with business in order to avoid meeting her. On the two occassions that Prachi had met her father during her life span of 25 years was once when she had fallen ill due to typhoid and secondly when she had decided to opt for a college besides La Salle. On both the occassions their meetings had been brief, precise and curt Inder had not even made eye contact with her it was if she was a disease he would contract if he ventured too close. And Prachi had longed for him to hug her, fill her in his arms and soothe her weary heart but Inder had not moved an inch from the doorway.

"Mujhey La Salle nahin jaana" (I don't wish to go to La Salle) she had started "Na sunney ki mujhey aadat nahin" (I'm not used to listening to refusals) Inder had growled. "Per didi bhi to Cambridge ..." (But Ayesha also went to Cambridge) she had tried to protest "Uss main or tum main farq hai" (There's a difference between you and her) Inder had reminded her cruelly. "It's either La Salle or you pack your bags and get out of my house" he had implied harshly leaving no room for further discussion and twenty minutes later he had left for the airport. In contrast to Prachi, Ayesha had not only received Inder's sole attention and love but had also lived her life on her terms. She was a Cambridge graduate having garnered a degree in Arts, Literature being her favorite subject she had then secured admission at Harvard and had finished law. She was ambitious, outspoken and breath takingly beautiful. She had appeared on the title of Vogue for three consecutive years winning the Youngest Businesswoman title much to Inder's delight, she was his trophy child. While she was still at Harvard she had befriended Neev; forthright, bright and bubbly Neev Shergill was son to Pranay and Niharika Shergill business associates of Inder. They owned a few motels on the Las Vegas strip but nothing compared to Shah Palace that stood second only to Bellagio in Vegas. The wedding was a grand affair the only person missing was Inder Shah's non existant second daughter who had cried bitterly when Inder had refused to let her be a part of the auspicious occassion. "Papa she's my sister for God's sake" Ayesha had protested at his heartlessness. "And she's the reason your mother isn't here to give you away today" Inder had replied quietly gazing at Premlata's life size portrait in his study. "Woh shaadi main aayegi to main nahin aaunga" (If she attends the wedding I won't come) Inder had stated firmly and Prachi had stayed in her ESCP-EAP European School of Management a miserable soul confined within her luxurious dorm room. "You'r Prachi Shah right Inder Shah's daughter?" a young man had tapped her lightly, he appeared to be British by his appearance donning an expensive Armani tuxedo. He swayed a bit before extending his free hand towards Prachi who had clasped it customarily, he had swiged the amber liquid in his glass before leaning in on her. "Come lets get out of here you'r father's party is extremely boring" he had tried to tempt her. "I'm fine here" Prachi had muttered trying to pull her hand away when he had tightened his grip on it. "Let go of me" Prachi had hissed but before she could flee he had pulled her close attempting to kiss her. Unable to bear his advances Prachi had slapped him hard on his face, one that had echoed in the honey coloured ballroom causing everyone to stop and stare.
